Information for Disaster Preparedness: A Social Network Approach to Rainwater Harvesting Technology Dissemination

Rainwater harvesting technology is considered an innovative and effective mechanism for reducing drinking water risks due to arsenic contamination and water salinity in coastal Bangladesh. However, adoption of such tanks remains elusive. Most studies on disaster risk communication are predominantly based on individuallevel cognitive modeling approaches, which fail to address the role of social groups, human relations, and other collective social factors in the dissemination process of disaster preventive measures. From the viewpoint of social implementation, community adoption of unfamiliar technology for disaster risk mitigation and preparedness requires another approach. Given the challenge to promote rainwater harvesting technology in the study area of coastal Bangladesh, this study examines the role of various social networks including cohesive groups(friends), structural equivalent groups(individuals who have the same position in society), and spatial groups(neighbors) in three information sharing and processing activities—hearing, observation, and discussion. Results show that those individuals who have similar cohesive affiliations tend to become hearing and discussion partners. Cohesive groups share a learning opportunity and are bounded by normative constraints in terms of direct and intimate social *** groups facilitate observation, which provides visual learning. Structurally equivalent groups are not relevant in adoption dissemination;therefore competition or similar social environment did not influence the rainwater tank dissemination activities.

In microwave tomography, it is necessary to increase the amount of diverse observation data for accurate image reconstruction of the dielectric properties of the imaging area. The multi-polarization method has been proposed as a suitable technique for the acquisition of a variety of observation data. While the effectiveness of employing multi-polarization to reconstruct images has been confirmed, the physical considerations related to image reconstruction have not been investigated. In this paper, a compact-sized imaging sensor using multi-polarization for breast cancer detection is presented. An analysis of the correlation coefficient of the received data of adjacent antennas was performed to interpret the imaging results. Numerical simulation results demonstrated that multi-polarization can reconstruct images better compared to single polarizations owing to its low correlation coefficient and condition number.

Improving Flow Property of Nifedipine Loaded Solid-Lipid Nanoparticles by Means of Silica for Oral Solid Dosage Form

In this study, a new formulation of silica nanocomposite containing nifedipine (NI) loaded freeze-dried solid-lipid nanoparticles (NI-SLNs) and silica have been developed with improved flowability of powders, which can lead to the formulation of a widely acceptable oral dosage form. The stable NI-SLNs were prepared using two phospholipids, hydrogenated soybean phosphatidylcholine and dipalmitoylphosphatidylglycerol mixed with 2.5% w/v trehalose as a cryoprotectant followed by lyophilization. We employed various grades of two types of silica, such as fumed and precipitated. Silica improved the poor flow property of NI-SLNs to good category as per USP-29. In addition, most of the silica nanocomposites showed the satisfactory results in their physicochemical properties such as particle size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, and recovered potency by around 100 nm, 0.3, -50 mV, and 80%, respectively. Furthermore, it was found that NI-SLNs were easily released form nanocomposites within 30 min, therefore, suggesting an improvement of drug dissolutions. Among them, precipitated silica cooperated fairly in improving the powder characteristics as well as the physicochemical, morphological, and pharmaceutical properties.

为了充分利用驾驶员在道路交通信息感知、交互和车辆控制过程中的长期驾驶经验,提出了一种基于ANNI及其集成的驾驶行为规则抽取算法。首先,基于认知学习理论,建立认知型驾驶行为模型,并进行描述和分析。然后,基于ANNI的模型和规则抽取算法(ANNI-REA)来解释驾驶行为及离散性。在不离散连续输入变量的情况下,规则具有较高的保真度和安全性。UCI标准数据集和自建驾驶行为数据集上的实验结果表明,该方法比常见的C4.5-REA、神经规则和REFNE方法准确度提高了约0.4%,简化了约10%。进一步地,仿真实验验证了所提取的驾驶规则的正确性和基于认知驾驶行为规则提取的有效性。总的来说,抽取的多条驾驶规则充分体现了驾驶综合认知序列活动的执行机制,这对于车联网下混合交通流的交通以及未来无人驾驶的研究具有重要意义。

Detailed analysis of PCBs and PCDD/Fs impurities in a dielectric oil sample （ASKAREL Nr 1740） from an imported transformer in China

Homolog and congener profiles of polychlori- nated biphenyls （PCBs）, polychlorinated dibenzo-p- dioxins （PCDDs） and polychlorinated dibenzofurans （PCDFs） in commercial PCBs formulations are useful information for the source appointment of PCBs contam- ination as well as the risk assessment caused by potential exposure. Dielectric oil （ASKAREL Nr 1740） in an imported transformer found in China was sampled and analyzed by isotope dilution technology using high resolution gas chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry （HRGC/HRMS）. The detailed homolog and congener profiles of PCBs obtained were compared with those of known Aroclor formulations. High similarity in the homolog profile between the oil sample and Aroclor 1260was found, with the hexachlorinated and hepta- chlorinated biphenyls accounting for more than 80.2% of the total PCBs concentration. Severn indicator PCBs contribute about 30%, while 12 PCB congeners （i.e., # 153, #143, #168, #180, #149, #165, #138, #170, #190, #187, #174, #181） account for more than 50% of the total PCB concentrations. Total concentration ofPCDDs, PCDFs and dioxin-like PCBs （DL-PCBs） was found to be 740 ng TEQ/g, of which 620 ng TEQ/g came from DL-PCBs. The contribution of PCDDs to the total TEQ was neglectable. The concentration of PCDFs homologs follows the order of OCDF 〉 HxCDFs 〉 HpCDFs 〉 PeCDFs 〉 TeCDFs, which is in consistence with the previous study on Aroclor 1260. Three DL-PCBs congeners （i.e., #118, #156, #157） accounted for 77% of the total concentration of DL-PCBs, also they contribute 72% in the TEQ caused by DL-PCBs.

One of the issues in the aluminum-alloy die casting industry is the space occurring inside the casting, and the improvement of the verification technology is expected. The purpose of this research is to seal holes inside the aluminum metal by resin and verify them by photon-counting X-ray computed tomography (CT) using an energy-discrimination 64-channel cadmium-telluride (CdTe) line detector. Moreover, it is important to estimate the image of the effective atomic number and the electronic density by the energy mapping of the attenuation coefficient utilizing photon-counting X-ray CTto distinguish both the aluminum metal and the resin filler in the aluminum hole. As a result, the energy discrimination of the resin filler in the space of aluminum casting has been attained. We could observe the atomic number image utilizing dual-energyX-ray CTmethod with the 64-channel CdTe photon-counting detector.

Comparison of Fitness Tracking Using Three Different Smartwatches during Free Activities in Daily Life

Background: Young women of reproductive age experience various physiological changes, which they measure and track using various devices, including fitness trackers and smartwatches. However, fitness tracking assessment methods are ambiguous because they may differ from model to model. Objective: This study aimed to compare the stress level, heart rate, sleep time, number of steps, and distance traveled, which were calculated using fitness tracking methods for daily-life free activity installed in various smartwatches. Materials and Methodology: Healthy women in their 20s to 30s were recruited for this study, which was conducted from December 2021 to June 2022. The finalized participants wore three different smartwatch models (Mi smartband 6, vivosmart®4, and Band 6) simultaneously on their person for 48 hours and performed their daily activities and recorded them on an hour-based activity chart. Each smartwatch’s measured data (e.g., age, height, weight, and oral medications) were extracted into five datasets: heart rate, stress level, number of steps, distance, and sleep time. Data analyses were conducted using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient ρ (for comparing heart rates) and Bland-Altman plots (for assessing heart rate agreement). The smartwatches’ fitness trackers were compared using the mean absolute percentage error. Results: The correlation coefficient showed that vivosmart®4 and Band 6 had a higher heart rate agreement (ρ = 0.684). The Bland-Altman plots showed high agreement between Band 6, Mi smartband 6, and vivosmart®4. The heart rate measurement method used under free movement was found to be consistent. The examined smartwatches were able to measure heart rate at the same level even under daily-life free movements.
