Association between Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring during Labor and Neonatal Acidosis in Full-Term Newborns: A Retrospective Multicenter Cohort Study

Introduction: Fetal heart rate monitoring during labor is used to study fetal well-being and predict neonatal acidosis of newborn. Fetal heart rate monitoring is analyzed by the obstetrical team and categorized according to the FIGO guidelines. An important limitation of this diagnostic tool is an inter- and intra-observer variability, leading to subjective cardiotocography interpretation and classification. Our objective was to study the association between the categories of fetal heart rate analysis (according to FIGO classification) and neonatal acidosis of full-term newborns. Study design: This is a multicenter retrospective cohort study conducted between 2014 and 2018 in the Grand-Est region. We searched and included retrospectively children hospitalized in a pediatric intensive care unit in one of the participating hospitals with an ICD-10 coding type “P91.6” corresponding to “Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy”. Maternal, pregnancy, delivery, and newborn characteristics were collected and compared by univariate logistic regression with multiple imputation. Odds Ratio and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using the model and presented. Multiple imputation with m = 100 imputations was tested, using Rubin rules to combine the results. Results: 55 patients were included in the study. Fetal heart rate tracings classified in Category 3 as “pathological” according to FIGO guidelines were significantly associated with an increased risk of severe neonatal acidosis. Fine Structure Analysis of the Configuration System of V II. Part II: Odd-Parity Levels

The 3d34p, 3d35p and 3d24s4p odd configurations of the V II spectrum have been reanalysed and three 3d24s4p triplets are assigned higher energies than previously proposed. We have determined the fine structure parameters, the largest and next largest eigenvector percentages of levels, their calculated Landé gJ-factors and predicted positions for missing experimental levels up to 100,000 cm-1 for the 3d24s4p configuration. Furthermore for the first time a hyperfine structure (HFS) parametric treatment, involving levels of these two configurations has been carried out. The deduced single-electron HFS parameter values are successfully checked with those obtained by means of ab initio calculations.

Fine Structure Analysis of the Configuration System of V II. Part I: Even-Parity Levels

Using a linked-parameter technique of level-fitting calculations in a multi configuration basis, a parametric analysis of fine structure (fs) for even-parity levels of V II, involving six configurations, has been performed. This led us to exchange the assignments of two triplets, 3d3(2F)4s c 3F and 3d4 d 3F, reported in earlier analyses as being located at 30,300 cm-1 and 30,600 cm-1, respectively. This is confirmed by experimental hyperfine structure (hfs) A constants, used as fingerprints. Moreover, the current singlet 3d24s2 1D2 position is likely too high. The fs parameters, magnetic Landé g-factors, and the percentage of leading eigenvectors of levels are calculated. We present also predicted singlet, triplet and quintet positions for missing experimental levels up to 100,000 cm-1. The single-electron hfs parameters are determined in their entirety for 51V II for the model space (3d + 4s)4 with good accuracy. For the model space (3d + 4s)4 of 51V II the single-electron hfs parameters are computed;furthermore, our achieved theoretical evaluations of the single-electron hfs parameters, thanks to the use of ab initio calculations, reinforce the validity of these hfs parameter values, deduced from experimental data.

Short-term and middle-term evaluation of laparoscopic hepatectomies compared with open hepatectomies: A propensity score matching analysis

AIM To compare short-term results between laparoscopic hepatectomy and open hepatectomy using a propensity score matching. METHODS A patient in the laparoscopic liver resection(LLR) groupwas randomly matched with another patient in the open liver resection(OLR) group using a 1:1 allocated ratio with the nearest estimated propensity score. Patients of the LLR group without matches were excluded. Matching criteria included age, gender, body mass index, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, potential co-morbidities, hepatopathies, size and number of nodules, preoperative chemotherapy, minor or major liver re-sections. Intraoperative and postoperative data were compared in both *** From January 2012 to January 2015, a total of 241 hepa-tectomies were consecutively performed, of which 169 in the OLR group(70.1%) and 72 in the LLR group(29.9%). The conversion rate was 9.7%(n = 7). The mortality rate was 4.2% in the OLR group and 0% in the LLR group. Prior to and after propensity score matching, there was a statistically significant difference favorable to the LLR group regarding shorter operative times(185 min vs 247.5 min; P = 0.002), less blood loss(100 m L vs 300 m L; P = 0.002), a shorter hospital stay(7 d vs 9 d; P = 0.004), and a significantly lower rate of medical complications(4.3% vs 26.4%; P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Laparoscopic liver resections seem to yield better short-term and mid-term results as compared to open hepatectomies and could well be considered a privileged approach and become the gold standard in carefully selected patients.

The title compound, [N-(2-pyridylmethyl)-(L)-alanine]Co(III) thiocyanate (1) was obtained from the reaction of Co(OOCH3)2·H2O with the tridentate reduced Schiff base ligand, N-(2-pyridylmethyl)-(L)-alanine (L) and NH4SCN and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-visible, TGA and single- crystal X-ray diffraction. Structural and spectroscopic analyses reveal [Co(L)2)]SCN to be monomeric with Cobalt(III) adopting a pseudo-octahedral geometry, coordinating to two reduce Schiff base ligands. In the crystal lattice, the thiocyanate anion forms an intermolecular SCN···HNamine hydrogen bond, while adjacent monomers are linked by intermolecular Ocarboxyl···HNamine···H-bonds to form a supramolecular network. This work is therefore undertaken in an attempt to construct coordination framework structures of varying properties using the mixed-ligand strategy involving reduced Schiff bases and the thiocyanate ion.

The Influence of Insole with Metatarsal Retro-Capital on Posture, Plantar Pressure and Body Segments Positions in Runners

Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of orthopaedic soles on the body posture. Methods. Forty-eight runners (21 men and 28 women) maintained a standing-up position on both feet with bare feet with neutral soles and orthopedic soles which contained bilaterally a podiatrist element of 3 mm height behind the metatarsal heads (Metatarsal Retro Capital Bar, MRCB). Stabilometric, plantar pressure and kinematic data in the sagittal plane on both sides were measured at 40 and 60 Hz, respectively. The position of the center of pressure on the anteroposterior axis (YCoP), the forefoot plantar pressure (FPP) and the anteroposterior position of the knee (Yk), the hip (YH), the shoulder (YS) and the ears (YE) with respect to the vertical axis passing through the joint of the ankle were determined for each experimental condition. Findings. The addition of a MRCB orthopedic element induced in backward displacement of CoP, hip, shoulder and ears (p CoP and FPP changes were significantly correlated with YH, YS and YE changes (p Conclusion. These results suggest that the addition of an orthopedic element located behind the metatarsal heads influences the overall position of the body and can help podiatrist in the care of their patients.

A novel chiral Nickel (II) complex of N-(2-pyridylmethyl)-L-alanine (Hpyala) 1 has been prepared and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-visible, TGA and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Complex 1 crystallizes in an orthorhombic P212121 space group. The nickel (II) centre in the complex adopts a distorted octahedral geometry. This compound has been seen to exhibit structural diversity resulting from the number of lattice water molecules. The photoluminescent properties of this compound which have also been investigated, indicates the potential application in luminescence.

In this study,the possibility of obtaining micro and nano-scaled Co/Ni bi-layered films by use of the electrochemical method was *** electrodeposition process was performed with presence and absence of a uniform external magnetic field up to 1T to examine its influence on structure and morphology of the obtained thin films. Afterwards,each sample was annealed under high magnetic field with strength up to 12 T at 623 K,what allowed compare and determine the changes in morphology and structure,before and after heat *** Co/Ni bi-layered thin films were deposited onto an indium-doped tin oxide(ITO)-coated conducting glass substrate from sulfate baths with boric acid as an *** results show drastic changes in the morphology between macro and nano-scaled films which were strongly affected by an introduction of the magnetic field to the electrodeposition *** annealing process allowed to determine the nucleus transition and showed that under the high temperature treatment it is possible to control the growth mode as well as the phase composition changes.

Magnetotactic bacteria are a diverse group of motile prokaryotes that are ubiquitous in aquatic habitats and cosmopolitan in distribution. In this study, we collected magnetotactic bacteria from the Mediterranean Sea. A remarkable diversity of morphotypes was observed, including multicellular types that seemed to differ from those previously found in North and South America. Another interesting organism was one with magnetosomes arranged in a six-stranded bundle which occupied one third of the cell width. The magnetosome bundle was evident even under optic microscopy. These cells were connected together and swam as a linear entire unit. Magnetosomes did not always align up to form a straight linear chain. A chain composed of rectangle magnetosomes bent at a posi- tion with an oval crystal. High resolution transmission electron microscopy analysis of the crystal at the pivotal position suggested uncompleted formation of the crystal. This is the first report of Mediterranean magnetotactic bacteria, which should be useful for studies of biogeochemical cycling and geohistory of the Mediterranean Sea.
