The Disregarded HIV Prevention Strategies—Their Potential to Uphold the Pandemic, and the Challenges Facing Societies

The ongoing spread of HIV after sobering news about the goal “End of AIDS” is not encouraging, apart from regional differences. We focus on the consequences of the two essentially failed HIV prevention strategies in certain countries. The first failed because the correct messages concerning preventive behavior did not reach the required levels of target populations to interrupt HIV infection chains. There was a lack of appropriate framework conditions for the target populations to engage in the required scale. The additional biomedical strategy “Treatment as Prevention” didn’t achieve the breakthrough as was hoped. The consequences thereof affect the financial burden on societies, which can take several decades. We draw attention to the unbalanced principles of proportionality to which governments are committed, but which are practiced in favor of those vulnerable people;these people abuse their autonomy and contribute to the further spread of HIV at the expense of financial burdens, social and medical care systems;this behavior is tolerated, although the transmission of HIV is mostly preventable. We point to extreme tendencies, such as the chem-sex settings, whose unswayable participants engage in indirect violence against the societies. Another possible consequence of the still uncontrolled spread of HIV is the potential for HIV to increase its virulence.

Surface Characterization of Titanium Implants Treated in Hydrofluoric Acid

The results of XPS measurements of commercially pure titanium cp-Ti) before and after chemical treatment are presented. We have measured XPS spectra of core levels (Ti 2p, O 1s, C 1s, F 1s) and valence bands of coarse-grained cp-Ti before and after standard acid treatment accepted in dentistry (in 1% HF and 40% HF for 1 min). It is found, that acid treatment of cp-Ti reduces the content of hydrocarbons increasing the surface energy and bio-compatibility of Ti-implants. On the other hand, it is fixed that oxygen concentration on the surface of the acid treated cp-Ti is much higher than for the untreated sample, because the acid treatment removes the contaminated surface layers, increases their reactivity, provides a better passivation and formation of thick protecting TiO2 layer.

Effects of Ginkgo Biloba Special Extract EGb 761^(█) in Very Mild Cognitive Impairment(vMCI)

Objective: To assess effects of EGb 761? on cognition and quality of life in subjects with very mild cognitive impair-ment. Methods: We randomized 300 subjects aged 45 to 65 with cognitive complaints and low functioning (more than one standard deviation below appropriate norm) in at least one cognitive test to double-blind treatment with once daily 240 mg EGb 761? or placebo for 12 weeks. Results: The exploratory intention-to-treat analysis showed significant im-provement (p < 0.025, one-sided) beyond practice effects for EGb 761? in a measure of attention (Vienna Test System - Work Performance Series) and trends in favour of EGb 761? in measures of memory (Wechsler Memory Scale III - Faces I, Appointments Test – delayed recall), and perceived physical health (SF36 - factor score Physical Health). Cognitive effects were more pronounced and more consistent (p < 0.025 in 4 of 5 tests) in subjects with lower memory function at baseline. Specifically, practice effects in the more demanding tests were attenuated or absent in these sub-jects. Conclusion: Ginkgo biloba extract EGb 761? improved cognitive functioning and aspects of quality of life in sub-jects with very mild cognitive impairment.

以德国奥斯纳布吕克地区3种基质类型矿山废弃地作为研究对象,分别对粉煤灰场地、煤矸石山、选煤厂尾矿及煤泥水沉积区3种基质类型的工矿废弃地土壤进行分层采样和理化性质指标分析,对比研究了矿区不同类型工矿废弃地不同基质的自然修复能力以及在进行植被重建时需要修复的土壤理化性质指标。结果显示:以煤矸石为主的场地自然修复能力高于粉煤灰基质和选煤厂尾矿及煤泥水沉积区基质类型。Helmstedt粉煤灰场地周边生长着一些芦苇;煤矸石场地Ibbenbueren和Piesberg山区自然生长着一些灌木;煤泥水沉积区因选煤厂仍在生产,沉积区无植物生长。

The new prevalence data regarding the estimated global number of human immunodeficiency virus positive (HIV+) cases,i.e.,including people who are either aware or unaware of their HIV infection in 2010,lead many to wonder why the increase in incidence has reached today’s unprecedented level and escalated within such a short ***,in spite of prevention campaigns in countries affected by HIV/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) with their urgent messages aimed at preventing HIV transmission by promoting changes in individual’s *** article analyzes the background of the prevention strategies,in particular their political,social and legal concepts in terms of human rights,and reveals traits of human behavior not considered thus far.A radical reappraisal is necessary,at social and legislative levels,as well as options additional to current *** ethical issues come up,they become blamed for outmoded moralistic ***,ignoring the reality has led to dire consequences from prioritizing individual human rights over society’s collective need to prevent the spread of HIV.

以德国奥斯那不吕克Piesberg和中国淮南大通矿区为研究对象,采用比较研究的方法分别从矿山工程背景、自然地理条件、矿山煤矸石及土壤质地特征、人文社会环境条件等方面对中德矿山环境修复条件进行差异分析。研究结果显示:Piesberg矿区的气候条件、人文社会环境条件优于大通矿区,有利于矿区已遭受破坏的环境修复;但该矿区内地面分布的煤矸石因含较多的黄铁矿而呈较高的酸性,酸性土壤和较低的土壤有效含水量,以及该区较低的地下水水位等因素条件显然劣于淮南大通矿区,不利于矿区生态环境的修复;Piesberg矿区的环境修复现状好于淮南矿区的主要因素是因为该矿区内较少的人为活动干扰而使得生态环境得到稳定的自然修复。

Fairness and Team Efficiency

This study applies to the perception of fairness during teamwork. Students were assigned to work groups by lot and were instructed to prepare a course presentation. Groups were given no guidelines relating to allocation of tasks, but each group was graded as a whole. Since a real grade was given in a non-simulated experiment, it was possible to determine team efficiency, work satisfaction, and perception of fairness via a subsequent study. Results show a strong influence of fairness on team efficiency.

BACKGROUND The large majority of gastrointestinal bleedings subside on their own or after endoscopic ***,a small number of these may pose a challenge in terms of therapy because the patients develop hemodynamic instability,and endoscopy does not achieve adequate *** radiology supplemented with catheter angiography(CA)and transarterial embolization have gained importance in recent *** To evaluate clinical predictors for angiography in patients with lower gastrointestinal bleeding(LGIB).METHODS We compared two groups of patients in a retrospective *** group had been treated for more than 10 years with CA for LGIB(n=41).The control group had undergone non-endoscopic or endoscopic treatment for two years and been registered in a bleeding registry(n=92).The differences between the two groups were analyzed using decision trees with the goal of defining clear rules for optimal *** Patients in the CA group had a higher shock index,a higher Glasgow-Blatchford bleeding score(GBS),lower serum hemoglobin levels,and more rarely achieved hemostasis in primary *** patients needed more transfusions,had longer hospital stays,and had to undergo subsequent surgery more frequently(P<0.001).CONCLUSION Endoscopic hemostasis proved to be the crucial difference between the two patient *** endoscopic hemostasis,along with GBS and the number of transfusions,would permit a stratification of *** prospective confirmation of the present findings,the use of decision trees would permit the identification of patients at risk for subsequent diagnosis and treatment based on interventional radiology.
