BACKGROUND Addressing the growing challenge of hospitalizing chronic multimorbid patients,this study examines the strain these conditions impose on healthcare systems at a local level,focusing on a pilot *** diseases and complex patients require comprehensive management strategies to reduce healthcare burdens and improve patient *** proven effective,this pilot model has the potential to be replicated in other healthcare settings to enhance the management of chronic multimorbid *** To evaluate the effectiveness of the high complexity unit(HCU)in managing chronic multimorbid patients through a multidisciplinary care model and to compare it with standard hospital *** The study employed a descriptive longitudinal approach,analyzing data from the Basic Minimum Data Set(BMDS)to compare hospitalization variables among the HCU,the Internal Medicine Service,and other services at Antequera Hospital throughout *** HCU,designed for patients with complex chronic conditions,integrates a patient-centered model emphasizing multidisciplinary care and continuity *** The study employed a descriptive longitudinal approach,analyzing data from the BMDS to compare hospitalization variables among the HCU,the Internal Medicine Service,and other services at Antequera Hospital throughout *** HCU,designed for patients with complex chronic conditions,integrates a patient-centered model emphasizing multidisciplinary care and continuity *** This study demonstrates the effectiveness of the HCU in managing patients with complex chronic diseases through a multidisciplinary *** coordinated care provided by the HCU results in improved patient outcomes,reduced unnecessary hospitalizations,and better management of patient *** superiority of the HCU compared to standard care is evident in key outcomes such as fewer readmissions and higher patient satisfaction,reinforcing its value as a model of ca

Laser induced oxidation and optical properties of stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric Bi2Te3 nanoplates

Bi-Te nanoplates （NPs） grown by a low pressure vapor transport method have been studied by Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy （AFM）, energy- dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDS）, and Auger electron spectroscopy （AES）. We find that the surface of relatively thick （more than tens of nanometers） Bi2Te3 NPs is oxidized in the air and forms a bump under heating with moderate laser power, as revealed by the emergence of Raman lines characteristic of Bi2O3 and TeO2 and characterization by AFM and EDS. Further increase of laser power burns holes on the surface of the NPs. Thin （thicknesses less than 20 nm） NPs with stoichiometry different from Bi2Te3 were also studied. Raman lines from non-stoichiometric NPs are different from those of stoichiometric ones and display characteristic changes with the increase of Bi concentration. Thin NPs with the same thickness but different stoichiometries show different color contrast compared to the substrate in the optical image. This indicates that the optical absorption coefficient in thin Bi-Te NPs strongly depends on their stoichiometry.

A comparison of base running and sliding techniques in collegiate baseball with implications for sliding into first base

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare 4 techniques for arrival at a base after sprinting maximally to reach it: sliding head-first, sliding feet-first, running through the base without slowing, and stopping on the base. A secondary purpose of the study was to determine any advantage there may be to diving into first base to arrive sooner than running through the ***: Two high-definition video cameras were used to capture 3-dimensional kinematics of sliding techniques of 9 intercollegiate baseball players. Another video camera was used to time runs from first base to second in 4 counterbalanced conditions: running through the base, sliding head-first, sliding feet-first, and running to a stop. Mathematical modeling was used to simulate diving to first base such that the slide would begin when the hand touches the ***: Based upon overall results, the quickest way to the base is by running through it, followed by head-first, feet-first, and running to a ***: There was a non-significant trend toward an advantage for diving into first base over running through it, but more research is needed,and even if the advantage is real, the risks of executing this technique probably outweigh the miniscule gain.

N6-methyladenosine(m^(6)A), the most prevalent and conserved RNA modification in eukaryotic cells, profoundly influences virtually all aspects of mRNA metabolism. mRNA plays crucial roles in neural stem cell genesis and neural regeneration, where it is highly concentrated and actively involved in these processes. Changes in m^(6)A modification levels and the expression levels of related enzymatic proteins can lead to neurological dysfunction and contribute to the development of neurological diseases. Furthermore, the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells, as well as nerve regeneration, are intimately linked to memory function and neurodegenerative diseases. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the roles of m^(6)A in neural stem cell proliferation, differentiation, and self-renewal, as well as its implications in memory and neurodegenerative diseases. m^(6)A has demonstrated divergent effects on the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells. These observed contradictions may arise from the time-specific nature of m^(6)A and its differential impact on neural stem cells across various stages of development. Similarly, the diverse effects of m^(6)A on distinct types of memory could be attributed to the involvement of specific brain regions in memory formation and recall. Inconsistencies in m^(6)A levels across different models of neurodegenerative disease, particularly Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, suggest that these disparities are linked to variations in the affected brain regions. Notably, the opposing changes in m^(6)A levels observed in Parkinson's disease models exposed to manganese compared to normal Parkinson's disease models further underscore the complexity of m^(6)A's role in neurodegenerative processes. The roles of m^(6)A in neural stem cell proliferation, differentiation, and self-renewal, and its implications in memory and neurodegenerative diseases, appear contradictory. Upconversion Luminescence of the Er^(3+) and Yb^(3+) Codoped Transparent Vitroceramics

The upconversion luminescence of oxyfluoride transparent vitroceramics codoped with Er^(3+) and Yb^(3+) has been studied experimentally. There are microcrystallites to form in the oxyfluoride glass which is treated over its transi tion temperature, and the transparent vitroceramics are obtained. The vitroceramics has the better transparency and a high upconversion luminescent efficiency. Our results show that there is strong energy transfer between Er^(3+) and Yb^(3+) in the vitroceramics, which results in the change of the upconversion spectra with intensity of excitation laser.

An Intelligent Optimization Approach to Non-stationary Interference Suppression for Wireless Networks

In this paper, we propose a new technique to effectively suppress non-stationary interference signal for wireless networks. This technique combines a new scheme of interference signal estimation with the intelligent optimization projection. In order to capture interference signal's subspace, a time-varying method is used to estimate the non-stationary *** polynomials are used for the basis function instead of the power of the time to reduce the computational *** interference is then removed from the corrupted signal by subspace projection, resulting in less distortion to the desired signal. The performance of this approach is validated by computer simulation.

VI Data collection and analyses Afterobtaininggapproval from theethics committee of the school,I started the data collection process through a semi-structuredinterview,classroom observations,and a stimulated-recall interview.I carried out these data collection procedures cyclically and not linearly,which means that the data were continuously analysed during the collection process,and that the findings of each data collection step influenced the next collection procedures(Merriam,2009;Richards,2003).For example,the information obtained in the semistructured interview influenced the aspects to be documented during the classroom observations,and the phenomena witnessed in such observations were used as a basis for the stimulated-recall interview.I will explain these procedures in detail below.

Studies in second language teacher cognition(SLTC)of pronunciation teachers have increased in the last 10 years,due mainly to the fact that the decisions teachers make about explicit instruction are critical for the development of second language(L2)pronunciation in *** recent research has indicated that nonnative-speaking teachers(NNSTs)can be as effective as native-speaking teachers(NSTs)in pronunciation instruction,and that their training needs resemble those of NSTs,the way NNSTs implement L2 pronunciation instruction has not been studied *** is important to understand given the number of NNsTs of English worldwide at present,and because of the potential benefits of nonnative-speaking pronunciation teaching models in *** this study,I analysed the way an experienced NNST implemented explicit pronunciation instruction in a context of English as a foreign language(EFL)to understand both his actual teaching practices and the rationale behind such *** a framework of knowledge base of language teaching,this study demonstrates how factors such as previous teaching and learning experiences,teaching context,and L2 learner characteristics shaped and guided the techniques the teacher implemented in *** results are discussed in terms of implications for pronunciation teaching and teacher training purposes.
