The penetration of distributed energy resources in electrical grids has been steadily increasing in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.Inverters,as interfaces between distributed energy resources and grids,have become critical assets in modern power systems.In recent years,the development and application of grid-forming inverters have gained significant traction due to their capability of supporting power grid operations.A comprehensive review of grid-forming inverters is presented for power system applications.A comparison between grid-forming inverters and grid-following inverters is conducted in terms of their functionalities to highlight the potential of grid-forming inverter technologies in support of power system stability and resiliency.In addition,advanced control strategies integrated into grid-forming inverters under various operation conditions are presented through reviewing the innovations introduced in recent literature and in industrial applications.This paper is intended to provide an updated reference regarding grid-forming inverters for power system applications to researchers and practitioners in the field of power electronics.

Long-term artificial sweetener intake is linked to increased risk of obesity. In the present study, supplement of natural sweetener from Siraitia grosvenorii(SG)(or Momordica grosvenorii) fruit, compared with the artificial sweetener aspartame(ASM), was evaluated for anti-obesity effects on mice fed with high fat diet(HFD). We found that, in contrary to ASM, SG extracts prevented body weight gain, the insulin resistance and fat mass accumulation in HFD mice. SG extracts treatment inhibited the infiltration of inflammatory macrophages and lowered the levels of the fat inflammatory cytokines(leptin, macrophage chemoattractant protein 1(MCP-1) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)) in adipose tissues. In addition, SG extracts supplement counteracted the remodeling of gut microbiota resulted from HFD. However, ASM supplement aggravated the HFD-induced obese performances, fat inflammation and dysregulation of gut microbiota. Taken together, our results indicate that supplement of SG extracts may represent a promising alternation of artificial sweeteners in preventing metabolic diseases.

Human beings have consumed lemon(Citrus limon)and lime(Citrus aurantifolia or Citrus latiflia)for thousands of years.Among the variety of citrus families,lemon and lime are originated from the hybridization of citron with primitive papeda,hence they are similar from the nutritional and organoleptic standpoints,whereas very different from other citrus species such as orange and mandarin.Except for fresh produce,a signifi cant percentage of lemon and lime are processed and separated as juice,essential oils,pulps and other products.Lemon and lime juice or fruit itself is rich in vitamins,minerals and flavonoids which are rich sources for human nutrition.Consumption of lemon and lime fruit or juice are benefi cial for human health in the scope of urinary citrate increase,oxidative stress relief,improvement in lipid profi les and infl ammation markers,neuroprotective effects among others.These beneficial effects of lemon and lime are not only because of their high vitamin C content but also other bioactive micronutrients such as fl avonoids.Essential oils from lemon and lime have fresh and zesty aroma for perfumery and flavor applications for centuries.Compared with orange or mandarin,the integrated review for lemon and lime dietary bioactive compounds and essential oils is scarce.Therefore,in this review,we introduced the historical cultivation,consumption and process of lemon and lime,discussed the chemical and biological activities of phytochemicals in lemon and lime fruits and juice,and summarized volatile and non-volatile components in lemon and lime oil.This review may provide a comprehensive perspective for entire lemon and lime industry as well as their scientifi c values.

Precipitation Behaviour at the Interface of an Additively Manufactured M789-N709 Hybrid Alloy

A novel hybrid alloy, designed for plastic injection dies, was fabricated by depositing M789 steel on wrought N709 steel through laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). The M789-N709 interface (with a thickness of about 300 μm) is characterized by the variation of titanium content from 0 wt% in the N709 section to about 1 wt% near the M789 region. A thermodynamic and kinetic simulation after aging treatment was performed to reveal the precipitation behavior in the M789-N709 interface. Different sizes and amounts of ETA-Ni3(Ti,Al) strengthening precipitates exist, with a maximum volume fraction and radius of about 5% and 5 nm, respectively (near the M789 region). Moreover, the volume fraction of precipitates significantly increases with Ti additions of up to 0.6 wt% (i.e., 100 μm from the N709 region);however, beyond this threshold, the increase in the amount of precipitation becomes gradual. The thermodynamic and kinetic simulations performed in the interface are validated by electron diffraction spectroscopy (EDS), electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) and atomic probe tomography (APT) results;the measured precipitate size from the APT analysis is consistent with the simulation results. Two morphologies of precipitates were detected: elongated and spherical;both contribute to the robustness of the interface. The robust M789-N709 interface formed during the process shows good compatibility between the alloys, which is critical for extended tool life. These new insights about the precipitation at the interface of M789-N709 alloy are crucial in assessing the feasibility of N709 as a cost-effective base material to minimize the use of M789 when printing plastic injection dies.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the most common liver disease worldwide,with an estimated prevalence of 25% globally.NAFLD is closely associated with metabolic syndrome,which are both becoming increasingly more common with increasing rates of insulin resistance,dyslipidemia,and hypertension.Although NAFLD is strongly associated with obesity,lean or nonobese NAFLD is a relatively new phenotype and occurs in patients without increased waist circumference and with or without visceral fat.Currently,there is limited literature comparing and illustrating the differences between lean/nonobese and obese NAFLD patients with regard to risk factors,pathophysiology,and clinical outcomes.In this review,we aim to define and further delineate different phenotypes of NAFLD and present a comprehensive review on the prevalence,incidence,risk factors,genetic predisposition,and pathophysiology.Furthermore,we discuss and compare the clinical outcomes,such as insulin resistance,dyslipidemia,hypertension,coronary artery disease,mortality,and progression to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis,among lean/nonobese and obese NAFLD patients.Finally,we summarize the most up to date current management of NAFLD,including lifestyle interventions,pharmacologic therapies,and surgical options.

The clustering problem of big data in the era of artificial intelligence has been widely studied.Because of the huge amount of data,distributed algorithms are often used to deal with big data problems.The distributed computing model has an attractive feature:it can handle massive datasets that cannot be put into the main memory.On the other hand,since many decisions are made automatically by machines in today’s society,algorithm fairness is also an important research area of machine learning.In this paper,we study two fair clustering problems:the centralized fair k-center problem with outliers and the distributed fair k-center problem with outliers.For these two problems,we have designed corresponding constant approximation ratio algorithms.The theoretical proof and analysis of the approximation ratio,and the running space of the algorithm are given.

Vivianite is often found in reducing environments rich in iron and phosphorus from organic debris degradation or phosphorus mineral dissolution. The formation of vivianite is essential to the geochemical cycling of phosphorus and iron elements in natural environments. In this study, extracellular polymeric substances(EPS) were selected as the source of phosphorus. Microcosm experiments were conducted to test the evolution of mineralogy during the reduction of polyferric sulfate flocs(PFS) by Shewanella oneidensis MR-1(S. oneidensis MR-1) at EPS concentrations of 0, 0.03, and 0.3 g/L. Vivianite was found to be the secondary mineral in EPS treatment when there was no phosphate in the media. The EPS DNA served as the phosphorus source and DNA-supplied phosphate could induce the formation of vivianite.EPS impedes PFS aggregation, contains redox proteins and stores electron shuttle, and thus greatly promotes the formation of minerals and enhances the reduction of Fe(Ⅲ). At EPS concentration of 0, 0.03, and 0.3 g/L, the produced HCl-extractable Fe(Ⅱ) was 107.9, 111.0,and 115.2 mg/L, respectively. However, when the microcosms remained unstirred, vivianite can be formed without the addition of EPS. In unstirred systems, the EPS secreted by S. oneidensis MR-1 could agglomerate at some areas, resulting in the formation of vivianite in the proximity of microbial cells. It was found that vivianite can be generated biogenetically by S. oneidensis MR-1 strain and EPS may play a key role in iron reduction and concentrating phosphorus in the oligotrophic ecosystems where quiescent conditions prevail.

Atomic physics determination of the fine structure constant

The fine structure constant α is a fundamental physical constant that describes the electromagnetic interaction between charged particles and serves as the coupling constant of quantum electrodynamics(QED).It is dimensionless and thus remains the same under all systems of units.It is worth noting that α cannot be calculated by QED itself;it must be determined experimentally,often with the help of QED directly or indirectly.
