The matrix metalloproteinases（MMPs） are a family of zinc-dependent endopeptidases originally characterized as secreted proteases responsible for degrading extracellular matrix proteins.Their canonical role in matrix remodelling is of significant importance in neural development and regeneration,but emerging roles for MMPs,especially in signal transduction pathways,are also of obvious importance in a neural context.Misregulation of MMP activity is a hallmark of many neuropathologies,and members of every branch of the MMP family have been implicated in aspects of neural development and disease.However,while extraordinary research efforts have been made to elucidate the molecular mechanisms involving MMPs,methodological constraints and complexities of the research models have impeded progress.Here we discuss the current state of our understanding of the roles of MMPs in neural development using recent examples and advocate a phylogenetically diverse approach to MMP research as a means to both circumvent the challenges associated with specific model organisms,and to provide a broader evolutionary context from which to synthesize an understanding of the underlying biology.

p53 plays a key role in tumor suppression. The tumor suppressive function of p53 has long been attributed to its ability to induce apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and senescence in cells. However, recent studies suggest that other functions of p53 also contribute to its role as a tumor suppressor, such as its function in metabolic regulation. p53 regulates various metabolic pathways to maintain the metabolic homeostasis of cells and adapt cells to stress. In addition, recent studies have also shown that gain-offunction (GOF) mutant p53 proteins drive metabolic reprogramming in cancer cells, contributing to cancer progression. Further understanding of p53 and its GOF mutants in metabolism will provide new opportunities for cancer therapy.

At the beginning of the 21st century,the role of p53 as a tumor suppressor was well established;however,the function of p53 other than tumor suppression,especially its function under physiological conditions,was poorly understood.Here,we revisited the journey of a multidisciplinary team of researchers that revealed an unexpected and important function of p53 in regulating maternal reproduction at that time.This finding of p53 in maternal reproduction helped us gain important insights about the p53 protein and expanded our understanding of p53 protein functions in addition to its tumor suppressive function.This fin ding also provided a possible clue to explain the observed evolutionary selection on some alleles ofthe p53 pathway.

If left unmodeled,the delay suffered by electromagnetic waves while crossing the neutral atmosphere negatively affects Global Navigation Satellite System positioning.The modeling of the delay has been carried out by means of empirical models formulated based on climatological information or using information extracted from numerical weather prediction(NWP)models.This paper explores the potential use of meteorological information of several types that will become available with the increasing number of sensors(e.g.a cell phone,or the thermometer of a nearby smart home)in cyberspace.How can we make use of these potentially huge datasets,which may help to provide the best possible representation of the neutral atmosphere at any given time,as readily and as accurately as possible?This situation falls in the realm of Big Data.A few potential scenarios,a sequential improvement of Marini mapping function coefficients,a self-feeding NWP,and near real-time empirical model updates,are discussed in this paper.The pros and cons of each approach are discussed in comparison with what is done today.Experiments indicate that they have potential for a positive contribution.

This paper has two parts. We first survey recent efforts on the Bloom conjecture which still remains open in the case of complex dimension at least 4. Bloom’s conjecture concerns the equivalence of three regular types. There is a more general important notion, called the singular D’Angelo type (or simply, D’Angelo type). While the finite D’Angelo type condition is the right one for the study of local subelliptic estimates for Kohn’s ■-Neumann problem, regular types are important as their finiteness gives the global regularity up to the boundary of solutions of Kohn’s ■-Neumann problem.In the second part of the paper, we provide a proof of a seemingly elementary but a truly fundamental property (Theorem 2.2 or its CR version Theorem 2.5) on the vanishing order of smooth functions along a system of non-integrable vector fields. A special case, Corollary 2.6, of Theorem 2.5had appeared in a paper of D’Angelo. A main goal in this part is to provide proofs for these results for the purpose of future references. Our arguments are based on a deep normalization theorem for a system of non-integrable vector fields due to Helffer-Nourrigat, as well as its late generalization by Boauendi-Rothschild.

Path planning is extensively used in different fields not only in robotics but also in games,manufacturing,auto-motive applications,and so on.Robot path planning is one of the major research issues in the area of autonomous mobile robot.The critical step in path planning problem is to find the shortest path from the start position to a defined goal position through a known,unknown,or partially known environment.Hazardous events that may devastate some parts of the intended area convert those areas to untraversable areas.These events introduce topological constraints for the robot motion because of information discrepancy about the environment before and after the damage.In this study,the authors propose a novel method,FreeD^(*),to find the shortest path by exploiting the benefits of D^(*),Dijkstra,and artificial potential field(APF)algorithms.The generated path using D^(*)is optimised using Dijkstra by combining D^(*)sub-paths into a single diagonal path if there is no known obstacle between them.Then,APF is used in unknown obstacle avoidance.The simulation results using Webots simulator demonstrate the effectiveness of FreeD^(*)in avoiding unknown obstacles with shortest path.

There are significant incentives/pressures on decreasing the use of plastics and their related prod-ucts in the packaging industry,correspondingly,strong demands are emerging for clean,renew-able,recyclable/biodegradable packaging products.In this context,molded fiber/pulp products have attracted increasing attention,due to their green/sustainable advantages,simply because the raw materials used are plant-based and/or recycled fibers.Many companies have switched their packing practices from plastics to more environmentally friendly products,such as molded fiber products,which already have had and will continue to have obvious effect on packaging industries.This paper initially provides an overview on the general concept of molded pulp prod-ucts,and further summarizes the different types of molded fiber products in terms of natural fiber sources,manufacturing processes,current and emerging applications as well as the environmental sustainability of molded products.

Active and Reactive Power Decoupling Control of Grid-Connected Inverters in Stationary Reference Frame

Proportion resonant(PR)controllers are able to achieve zero steady-state error for AC input signals and are widely used for simplifying control systems in the stationary reference frame.However,power decoupling in the stationary reference frame with a PR controller has not been investigated thoroughly.Based on the complex vector model of a grid-connected inverter(GCI),this paper deduces theoretically the power coupling relationship of GCI with the traditional PR current controller.A modified PR controller is provided for achieving the power decoupling,and the design method of the controller is presented.Simulation and experimental results verify that there is coupling between active and reactive power using the traditional PR controller and the proposed method can realize the power decoupling.
