The expansion of the Internet of Moving Things(IoMT)leads to limitless and continuous working playgrounds exploited by highly dynamic end devices.This requires the adoption of multi-Radio Access Technologies(RATs)-based strategies to provide IoMT units with ubiquitous connectivity.To this end,the development of secure bootstrapping and authentication mechanisms is necessary to permit the secure operation of end devices.Given the transmission and power limitations of these elements,current cryptographic solutions do not address these stringent requirements.For that reason,in the study we present a Multi-Access Edge Computing(MEC)-based endto-end architecture that enables an efficient and secure authentication and key agreement between end devices and network servers over heterogeneous resource-limited networks such as the Low Power Wide Area Networks(LPWANs).Our proposal is based on the Authentication,Authorization,and Accounting(AAA)architecture and the recent Internet Engineering Task Force initiatives Static Context Header Compression and Low-Overhead CoAP-EAP.The results obtained from experimental tests reveal the validity of the proposal as it enables constrained IoMT devices to gain IPv6 connectivity as well as performs end-to-end secure authentication with notable reliability and controlled latency.

The climatic variability hypothesis(CVH)predicts that organisms in more thermally variable environments have wider thermal breadths and higher thermal plasticity than those from more stable environments.However,due to evolutionary trade-offs,taxa with greater absolute thermal limits may have little plasticity of such limits(trade-off hypothesis).The CVH assumes that climatic variability is the ultimate driver of thermal tolerance variation across latitudinal and altitudinal gradients,but average temperature also varies along such gradients.We explored intraspecific variation of thermal tolerance in three typical Mediterranean saline water beetles(families Hydrophilidae and Dytiscidae).For each species,we compared two populations where the species coexist,with similar annual mean temperature but contrasting thermal variability(continental vs.coastal population).We estimated thermal limits of adults from each population,previously acclimated at 17,20,or 25℃.We found species-specific patterns but overall,our results agree with the CVH regarding thermal ranges,which were wider in the continental(more variable)population.In the two hydrophilid species,this came at the cost of losing plasticity of the upper thermal limit in this population,supporting the trade-off hypothesis,but not in the dytiscid one.Our results support the role of local adaptation to thermal variability and trade-offs between basal tolerance and physiological plasticity in shaping thermal tolerance in aquatic ectotherms,but also suggest that intraspecific variation of thermal tolerance does not fit a general pattern among aquatic insects.Overlooking such intraspecific variation could lead to inaccurate predictions of the vulnerability of aquatic insects to global warming.

Background:Football is the most practised sport in the world and is associated with the risk of injuries in the players.Some studies have been published that identify injury prevention programs,but there is no review of the full body of evidence on injury prevention programs for use by football coaches.The aim of this article was to carry out a systematic review of published studies on injury prevention programs for adult male footballers,identify points of common understanding and establish recommendations that should be considered in the design of injury prevention strategies.Methods:PubMed and EMBASE databases were used to identify relevant published articles using the following keywords:"soccer"AND"injury"AND"prevention".Results:A total of 2512 studies were identified initially,but only 11 studies met the inclusion criteria,and their outcomes are presented.Results revealed that injury prevention programs in football have focused on strength training,proprioceptive training,multicomponent programs(balance,core stability,and functional strength and mobility),and warm-up programs.Conclusion:Based on results from the studies analyzed,football players can lower the incidence of match and training injuries by participating in dynamic warm-up programs that include preventive exercises before games or during training sessions,and by adding strength,balance,and mobility training to the training sessions.

Background:In vitro embryo production(IVP)and embryo transfer(ET)are two very common assisted reproductive technologies(ART)in human and cattle.However,in pig,the combination of either procedures,or even their use separately,is still considered suboptimal due to the low efficiency of IVP plus the difficulty of performing ET in the long and contorted uterus of the sow.In addition,the potential impact of these two ART on the health of the offspring is unknown.We investigated here if the use of a modified IVP system,with natural reproductive fluids(RF)as supplements to the culture media,combined with a minimally invasive surgery to perform ET,affects the output of the own IVP system as well as the reproductive performance of the mother and placental molecular traits.Results:The blastocyst rates obtained by both in vitro systems,conventional(C-IVP)and modified(RF-IVP),were similar.Pregnancy and farrowing rates were also similar.However,when compared to in vivo control(artificial insemination,AI),litter sizes of both IVP groups were lower,while placental efficiency was higher in AI than in RF-IVP.Gene expression studies revealed aberrant expression levels for PEG3 and LUM in placental tissue for C-IVP group when compared to AI,but not for RF-IVP group.Conclusions:The use of reproductive fluids as additives for the culture media in pig IVP does not improve reproductive performance of recipient mothers but could mitigate the impact of artificial procedures in the offspring.

Background:There is controversial evidence regarding the effect of acute resistance exercise(ARE) on heart rate variability(HRV) parameters,which indicates the activities of the cardiac autonomic nervous system.The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature on the effect of ARE on HRV parameters and identify its possible moderating factors.Methods:The PubMed-Medline,Web of Science,SPORTDiscus,and Cochrane Library databases were searched.The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA) declaration was followed,and the methodological quality of the studies was evaluated.The level of significance was set at p≤0.05.Twenty-six studies met the inclusion criteria.Main effect analyses between pre-and post-test interventions demonstrated an increase in normalized units low frequency(p <0.001;standardized mean difference(SMD)=0.78;95% confidence interval(95%CI):0.46-1.11) and low frequency/high frequency ratio(p <0.001;SMD=0.82;95%CI:0.64-0.99) and a decrease in standard deviation of the normal-to-normal(NN)interval(p <0.001;SMD=-0.58;95%CI:-0.85 to-0.30),root mean square of the successive differences(p <0.001;SMD=-1.01;95%CI:-1.29 to-0.74),and normalized units high frequency(p <0.001;SMD:-1.08;95%CI:-1.43 to-0.73) following ARE in healthy individuals range:15 ± 1 to 48 ± 2 years;mean ± SD).Results:There were differences between the subgroups in the number of sets used in an exercise(p=0.05) for root mean square of the successive differences,as well as for exercise intensity(p=0.01) and rest between sets(p=0.05) for normalized units high frequency.Interestingly,there were differences between the subgroups in training volume for root mean square of the successive differences(p=0.01),normalized units high frequency(p=0.003) and normalized units low frequency(p=0.02).Conclusion:Overall,there was a withdrawal of cardiac parasympathetic and activation of cardiac sympathetic modulations following ARE,and these changes were greater with higher training vo

Background The identification of modifiable bleeding risk factors may be of relevance.The aim is to evaluate if aortic stenosis(AS)provides additional information to bleeding risk scores for predicting major bleeding(MB)in non-valvular atrial fibrillation(AF).Methods We designed a retrospective multi-center study including 2880 consecutive non-valvular AF patients initiating oral anticoagulation between January 2013 and December 2016.AS was defined as moderate or severe according to European echocardiography guidelines criteria.HASBLED,ATRIA and ORBIT scores were used to evaluate the bleeding risk.MB was defined according to the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasia criteria and registered at 18 months of follow-up.Results 168(5.8%)patients had AS.Patients with AS had higher risk for MB compared to those without AS(HR=2.13,95%CI:1.40-3.23,P<0.001).Patients without AS and low-intermediate bleeding risk(0 points)showed the lowest MB rate,whereas the MB rate observed among patients with AS and high bleeding risk(2 points)was the highest one.Discrimination and reclassification analyses showed that AS provided additional information to bleeding risk scores for predicting MB at 18 months of follow-up.Conclusions In this population,AS was associated with an increased risk for MB at midterm follow-up.The three scoring systems showed a moderate discriminatory ability for MB.Moreover,the addition of AS was associated with a significant improvement in their predictive accuracy.We suggest that the presence of this valvulopathy should be taken into account for bleeding risk assessment.

The rust red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum （Herbst, 1797）（Coleoptera： Tenebrionidae）, is a pest of stored grain and one of the most studied insect model species. Some of the previous studies involved heat response studies in terms of survival and heat shock protein expression, which are regulated to protect other proteins against environ- mental stress conditions. In the present study, we characterize the impedance profile with the xCELLigence Real-Time Cell Analyzer and study the effect of increased temperature in cell growth and viability in the cell line BCIRL-TcA-CLG 1 （TcA） of T castaneum. This novel system measures cells behavior in real time and is applied for the first time to insect cells. Additionally, cells are exposed to heat shock, increased salinity, acidic pH and UV-A light with the aim of measuring the expression levels of lisp27, Hsp68a, and Hsp83 genes. Results show a high thermotolerance of TeA in terms of cell growth and viability. This result is likely related to gene expression results in which a significant up-regulation of all studied Hsp genes is observed after 1 h of exposure to 40 ~C and UV light. All 3 genes show similar expression patterns, but Hsp27 seems to be the most affected. The results of this study validate the RTCA method and reveal the utility of insect cell lines, real-time analysis and gene expression studies to better understand the physiological response of insect cells, with potential applications in different fields of biology such as conservation biology and pest management.

TinyML-Based Fall Detection for Connected Personal Mobility Vehicles

A new wave of electric vehicles for personal mobility is currently crowding public spaces.They offer a sustainable and efficient way of getting around in urban environments,however,these devices bring additional safety issues,including serious accidents for riders.Thereby,taking advantage of a connected personal mobility vehicle,we present a novel on-device Machine Learning(ML)-based fall detection system that analyzes data captured from a range of sensors integrated on an on-board unit(OBU)prototype.Given the typical processing limitations of these elements,we exploit the potential of the TinyML paradigm,which enables embedding powerful ML algorithms in constrained units.We have generated and publicly released a large dataset,including real riding measurements and realistically simulated falling events,which has been employed to produce different TinyML models.The attained results show the good operation of the system to detect falls efficiently using embedded OBUs.The considered algorithms have been successfully tested on mass-market low-power units,implying reduced energy consumption,flash footprints and running times,enabling new possibilities for this kind of vehicles.

Parking Availability Prediction with Coarse-Grained Human Mobility Data

Nowadays,the anticipation of parking-space demand is an instrumental service in order to reduce traffic congestion levels in urban spaces.The purpose of our work is to study,design and develop a parking-availability predictor that extracts the knowledge from human mobility data,based on the anonymized human displacements of an urban area,and also from weather conditions.Most of the existing solutions for this prediction take as contextual data the current road-traffic state defined at very high temporal or spatial resolution.However,access to this type of fine-grained location data is usually quite limited due to several economic or privacy-related restrictions.To overcome this limitation,our proposal uses urban areas that are defined at very low spatial and temporal resolution.We conducted several experiments using three Artificial Neural Networks:Multilayer Perceptron,Gated Recurrent Units and bidirectional Long Short Term Memory networks and we tested their suitability using different combinations of inputs.Several metrics are provided for the sake of comparison within our study and between other studies.The solution has been evaluated in a real-world testbed in the city of murcia(Spain)integrating an open human-mobility dataset showing high accuracy.A MAPE between 4%and 10%was reported in horizons of 1 to 3 h.
