Trajectories of depressive symptoms and risk of cardiovascular disease,cancer and mortality:a prospective cohort study

Background Depressive symptoms are established risk factors for various health ***,previous studies assessed depressive symptoms at a single time point,neglecting individual variations over *** To identify depressive symptoms trajectories through repeated measures and examine their associations with cardiovascular disease(CVD),cancer and *** This study included 20634 UK Biobank participants free of CVD and cancer at baseline with two or more assessments of depressive symptoms during ***-based trajectory modelling identified depressive symptoms *** CVD,cancer and mortality were followed up until 2021 through linked *** Six depressive symptoms trajectories were identified:no symptoms(n=6407),mild-stable(n=11539),moderate-stable(n=2183),severe-decreasing(n=206),moderate-increasing(n=177)and severe-stable(n=122).During a median follow-up of 5.5 years,1471 CVD cases,1275 cancer cases and 503 deaths were *** with the no symptoms trajectory,the mildstable,moderate-stable and severe-stable trajectories exhibited higher CVD risk,with hazard ratios(HRs)(95%CIs)of 1.19(1.06 to 1.34),1.32(1.08 to 1.34)and 2.99(1.85 to 4.84),***-increasing and severe-stable trajectories were associated with higher mortality risks,with HRs(95%CIs)of 2.27(1.04 to 4.93)and 3.26(1.55 to 6.88),***,the severedecreasing trajectory was not associated with higher risks of adverse *** did not find significant associations between any trajectory and *** Trajectories related to stable and increasing depressive symptoms,but not the trajectory associated with severe depressive symptoms at the initial assessment but decreasing at the follow-up,were associated with higher risks of CVD and *** severe depressive symptoms at the initial onset may mitigate CVD and mortality risks.

Phthalate Exposure and Human Semen Quality in Shanghai:A Cross-sectional Study

Objective To monitor the level of phthalates in human semen samples and to analyze the relationship between phthalate levels and semen parameters. Methods Concentrations of three kinds of commonly used phthalates （di-ethyl phthalate, DEP; di-n-butyl phthalate, DBP; di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate, DEHP） were measured using reversed-phase HPLC. Semen parameters were measured by computer aided sperm analysis （CASA）. Results The three phthalates were detected in most of the biological samples, with median levels of 0.30 mg/L （0.08-1.32 mg/L） in semen specimens. There was a significant positive association between liquefied time of semen and phthalate concentrations of semen. The correlation coefficient was 0.456 for DEP, 0.475 for DBP, and 0.457 for DEHP, respectively. There was no significant difference between phthalate concentrations of semen and sperm density or livability, though the correlation coefficients were negative. Conclusion These results suggest that people who reside in Shanghai are exposed to phthalates, especially to DBP and DEHP. Although the level of phthalates is relatively mild, an association of phthalate levels and reduced quality of human semen has been shown in the present study.

Objective To study the association between metal exposure and risk of diabetes and prediabetes among Chinese workers exposed to *** We used data obtained from the baseline survey of the Jinchang Cohort Study of workers in Jinchang Industry,the largest nickel production company in China.A total of 42,122 workers ≥20 years of age were included in the study.A standardized,structured questionnaire was used to collect epidemiological *** examinations and laboratory tests were conducted to evaluate the health status of the participants and to measure various biomarkers including blood sugar,lipids,and urinary metal *** regression was used to study the association between occupational groups categorized according to the measured metal levels(office workers,low-level;mining/production workers,mid-level;and smelting/refining workers,high-level)and risk of diabetes and *** The overall prevalence of diabetes and prediabetes was 7.5% and 16.8%,*** adjusted odds ratios for diabetes among mining/production workers and smelting/refining workers compared to office workers were 1.5(95% CI:1.3,1.7)and 3.8(95% CI:3.4,4.3),*** association was observed between these occupational groups and prediabetes in this *** Occupations associated with higher levels of metal exposure were associated with an increased risk of diabetes in this *** studies are needed to confirm this observed association.

Equilibrium and kinetics of adsorption of Ca(Ⅱ) ions onto KCTS and HKCTS

The adsorption of Ca（ II ） ions from aqueous solution by ehitosan a-ketoglutaric acid （KCTS） and hydroxamated chitosan a-ketoglutaric acid （HKCTS） was studied in a batch adsorption system. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describing the equilibrium isotherms, and isotherm constants were determined. The kinetics of the adsorption with respect to the initial Ca（II） ions concentration, temperature and pH was investigated. The pseudo-first-order and second-order kinetic models were used to describe the kinetic data and the rate constants were evaluated. The results show that the experimental data fit well to the Langmuir isotherms with a high correlation coefficient （R2）. The pseudo-second-order rate expression provides the best fitting kinetic model. The pseudo second-order kinetic model is indicated with the activation energy of 26.22 kJ/mol and 6.16 kJ/mol for KCTS and HKCTS, respectively. It is suggested that the overall rate of adsorption of Ca（ II ） ions is likely to be controlled by the chemical process.

Evaluation and Estimation of the Provincial Infant Mortality Rate in China's Sixth Census

Objective To assess the data quality and estimate the provincial infant mortality rate（1q0） from China＇s sixth census. Methods A log-quadratic model is applied to under-fifteen data. We analyze and compare the average relative errors（AREs） for 1q0 between the estimated and reported values using the leave-one-out cross-validation method. Results For the sixth census, the AREs are more than 100% for almost all provinces. The estimated average 1q0 level for 31 provinces is 12.3‰ for males and 10.7‰ for females. Conclusion The data for the provincial 1q0 from China＇s sixth census have a serious data quality problem. The actual levels of 1q0 for each province are significantly higher than the reported values.

Performance of common imaging techniques vs serum biomarkers in assessing fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B: A systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Noninvasive biomarkers have been developed to predict hepatitis B virus(HBV)related fibrosis owing to the significant limitations of liver *** serum biomarkers and imaging techniques have shown promising results and may improve the evaluation of liver ***,most of the previous studies focused on the diagnostic effects of various imaging techniques on fibrosis in all chronic liver *** To compare the performance of common imaging methods and serum biomarkers for prediction of significant fibrosis caused only by HBV *** A systematic review was conducted on the records available in PubMed,EMBASE,and the Cochrane Library electronic databases until December *** systematically assessed the effectiveness of two serum biomarkers and three imagine techniques in predicting significant fibrosis solely caused by HBV *** serum biomarkers included aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index(APRI)and fibrosis index based on the 4 factors(FIB-4).The three imaging techniques included acoustic radiation force impulse(ARFI),FibroScan,and magnetic resonance elastography(MRE).Three parameters,the area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curve(AUSROC),the summary diagnostic odds ratio,and the summary sensitivity and specificity,were used to examine the accuracy of all tests for liver *** Out of 2831 articles evaluated for eligibility,204 satisfied the predetermined inclusion criteria for this current ***,our final data contained 81 *** AUSROCs of serum biomarkers of APRI and FIB-4 were both *** imaging techniques(ARFI,FibroScan,and MRE),the areas were 0.89,0.83,and 0.97,*** heterogeneities of ARFI and FibroScan were statistically significant(I2>50%).The publication bias was not observed in any of the serum biomarkers or imaging *** These five methods have attained an acceptable level of diagnostic *** techniques,

4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone Induces Circulating MicroRNA Deregulation in Early Lung Carcinogenesis

Objective To study the alteration of circulating microRNAs in 4-（methylnitrosamino）-l-（3-pyridyl） -l-butanone （NNK）-induced early stage lung carcinogenesis. Methods A lung cancer model of male F344 rats was induced with systemic NNK and levels of 8 lung cancer-associated miRNAs in whole blood and serum of rats were measured by quantitative RT-PCR of each at weeks 2, 5, 20, and 20 following NNK treatment. Results No lung cancer was detected in control group and NNK treatment group at week 20 following NNK treatment. The levels of some circulating miRNAs were significantly higher in NNK treatment group than in control group. The miR-210 was down-regulated and the miR-206 was up-regulated in NNK treatment group. The expression level of circulating miRNAs changed from week 1 to week 20 following NNK treatment. Conclusion The expression level of circulating miRNAs is related to NNK-induced early stage lung carcinogenesis in rats and can therefore serve as its potential indicator.

Periconceptional Folic Acid Supplementation in Chinese Women： A Cross-sectional Study

Objective To investigate the status of folic acid （FA） supplementation and determinants of its use inpregnant Chinese women Methods In this cross-sectional study, questionnaires were used to collect information of participantsand FA supplementation. Women were recruited between 6 and 12 weeks postpartum in Tianjin, China,between July 2015 and July 2016 Results A total of 1,921 women were recruited in the study. Approximately 93.1% of the studyparticipants used FA, while 14.4% of the women taking FA from three months prior to preconception tothree months post-conception. Women who took FA for three months prior to preconception throughat least three months into their pregnancy were more likely to be between 30 and 34 years old （OR =2.91, 95% CI： 1.15, 7.33）, employed （OR = 2.07, 95% CI： 1.17, 3.67）, primigravida （OR = 5.20, 95% CI：3.02, 8.96）, married to spouses with an intermediate education level （OR = 2.92, 95% CI： 1.45, 5.89）, andearn a high family income （OR = 3.19, 95% CI： 1.57, 6.49） Conclusion The prevalence of periconceptional FA intake was far below the requirements of theNational health and Family Planning Commission of China; therefore, knowledge of FA supplementationshould be strengthened among women who are or planning to become pregnant.
