Towards overcoming data scarcity in materials science:unifying models and datasets with a mixture of experts framework

While machine learning has emerged in recent years as a useful tool for the rapid prediction of materials properties,generating sufficient data to reliably train models without overfitting is often *** overcoming this limitation,we present a general framework for leveraging complementary information across different models and datasets for accurate prediction of data-scarce materials *** approach,based on a machine learning paradigm called mixture of experts,outperforms pairwise transfer learning on 14 of 19 materials property regression tasks,performing comparably on four of the remaining *** approach is interpretable,model-agnostic,and scalable to combining an arbitrary number of pre-trained models and datasets to any downstream property prediction *** anticipate the performance of our framework will further improve as better model architectures,new pre-training tasks,and larger materials datasets are developed by the community.

Using a large panel data set of hedge fund fees and performance,this paper examines the determinants of initial management and incentive fees charged by hedge funds as well as changes in these fees. Looking at performance of the same fund before and after fee changes allows us disentangle the effect of managerial ability from motivational effect of incentive fees. We document 590 instances of fee changes over the period from 2001 to 2009. In the cross section,we find that older and more established fund families charge lower incentive fees. Over time,a consistently good risk-adjusted prior performance leads to an increase in management fee. The funds that increase their management fees are able to maintain their superior performance whereas a sample of control funds is not. We do not find any evidence of improvement in performance after an increase in incentive fee. Overall,our results point to differences in hedge fund contracts signaling differential managerial ability.

This paper discusses the influence of national corporate governance systems and their players on the multidimensional levers of global *** highlight the opportunities and constraints that different national systems display when firms seek to *** arguments shed some light on different country patterns of globalization and propose some explanations on,for example,why American and British firms are generally more global than French or German firms. Association between the nasopharyngeal microbiome and metabolome in patients with COVID-19

SARS-CoV-2,the causative agent for COVID-19,infect human mainly via respiratory tract,which is heavily inhabited by local ***,the interaction between SARS-CoV-2 and nasopharyngeal microbiota,and the association with metabolome has not been well ***,metabolomic analysis of blood,urine,and nasopharyngeal swabs from a group of COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients,and metagenomic analysis of pharyngeal samples were used to identify the key features of *** showed lactic acid,L-proline,and chlorogenic acid methyl ester(CME)were significantly reduced in the sera of COVID-19 patients compared with non-COVID-19 *** commensal bacteria including Gemella morbillorum,Gemella haemolysans and Leptotrichia hofstadii were notably depleted in the pharynges of COVID-19 patients,while Prevotella histicola,streptococcus sanguinis,and Veillonella dispar were relatively *** abundance of *** and *** were significantly positively associated with serum CME,which might be an anti-SARS-CoV-2 bacterial *** study provides important information to explore the linkage between nasopharyngeal microbiota and disease *** findings were based on a very limited number of patients enrolled in this study;a larger size of cohort will be appreciated for further investigation.
