Aim: Purification of glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) from rat testis; separation and identificationunits and their role in eicosanoid biosynthesis. Methods: Purification of mt testicular GSTs by affit?phy, employing S-hexylglutathione-linked epoxy-activated Sepharose 6B column and separation of indiby reverse phase-high pressure liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). Characterization of affinity purified,um dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and Westem blot analysis. The roGSTs in eicosanoid biosynthesis was determined by incubating GSTs with 5, 6-Leukotriene A_4Me (prostaglandin H_2 (PGH_2) and analyzing the products formed on HPLC/TLC. Results: The present stumajority of rat testicular GSTs are of Y_b size (60%) with molecular weight of 27 kDa. The most preunits, however, are GST Y_(n2) (27% ), followed by GST Y_c (24% ) and GST Y_(nl) (20%). These testiculavery high Leukotriene C_4 (LTC_4) synthase activity with 5, 6-Leukotriene A4Me (LTA_4Me) as theprostaglandin D (PGD) synthase activity with prostaglandin H_2 (PGH_2) as the substrate. Conclusion:testicular GSTs are Y_b sized and are involved in the synthesis of eicosanoids like LTC_4 and PGD_2.(Asian J Androl 2000 Dec; 2: 277-282)

Implications of fermionic dark matter on recent neutrino oscillation data

We investigate flavor phenomenology and dark matter in the context of the scotogenic *** this model,the neutrino masses are generated through radiative corrections at the one-loop *** the neutrino mixing matrix to be of tri-bimaximal form with additional perturbations to accommodate the recently observed nonzero value of the reactor mixing angle θ（13）,we obtain the relation between various neutrino oscillation parameters and the model *** in a degenerate heavy neutrino mass spectrum,we obtain light neutrino masses obeying the normal hierarchy and also study the relic abundance of fermionic dark matter candidates,including coannihilation effects.A viable parameter space is thus obtained,consistent with neutrino oscillation data,relic abundance and various lepton flavor violating decays such as 1α→1（βγ） and 1α→31β.

A note on general solution of Stokes equations

Li et al. (2015) claim that it is sufficient to use two harmonic functions to express the general solution of Stokes equations. In this paper, we demonstrate that this is not true in a general case and that we in fact need three scalar harmonic functions to represent the general solution of Stokes equations (Venkatalaxmi et al., 2004).

Hormonal contraception for human males:prospects

Development of an ideal hormonal contraceptive for man has been the goal of several research workers during thepast few decades. Suppression of pituitary gonadotropic hormones, which in turn would inhibit spermatogenesis whilemaintaining normal libido and potentia has been the approach for a contraceptive agent. Intramuscularly administeredand orally active testosterone or testosterone in combination with progesterone have been shown to cause inhibition ofspermatogenesis resulting in azoospermia in normal men. Similarly testosterone has been used in combination with go-nadotropin releasing hormone antagonists and agonists to inhibit pituitary gonadotropic hormone release. Immunologicalapproach to neutralize the circulating levels of follicle stimulating hormone has also been shown to cause inhibition ofspermatogenesis. The available literature shows that testosterone causes reversible azoospermia without any significantside effects in Asian population effectively and appears to be a promising chemical for control of fertility in man.

Difficult-to-culture bacteria in the rhizosphere:The underexplored signature microbial groups

Microorganisms represent a substantial portion of the earth’s biodiversity and biomass, and the plant rhizosphere is an innate reservoir teeming with heterogeneous microbes predominated by bacterial communities. Rhizospheric microbial diversity (genetic, phenotypic, and metabolic) has been extensively studied to understand the key ecological roles played by the microbial members, including plant growth promotion. The application of 16S rRNA gene sequencing and next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies has revolutionized the discovery of novel bacterial groups that have remained undetected by traditional cultivation-based approaches. Such technological advancements have opened new vistas in our current understanding of predominant but concealed and missed bacterial diversity referred to as difficult-to-culture bacterial lineages, especially the predominant phyla Acidobacteria, Verrucomicrobia,Planctomycetes, and Gemmatimonadetes. Regardless of their ubiquity and prevalence, little is known about their ecophysiology because of the non-availability of culturable members. More recently, there has been increased interest in understanding the cosmopolitan distribution and diversity of the difficult-to-culture bacteria, focusing on their role in driving complex plant-microbial interactions and mobilizing nutrients in soil and their potential as sources of novel bioactive metabolites. As an initial step, we review the distribution and significance of such bacterial phyla in soil, their ecophysiological roles, and their hidden plant growth promoting potential. The ability to select and deploy plant probiotic bacteria from the difficult-to-culture fraction of the bacterial community might open new avenues for improving crop health.

The Bar-Bulge Relation in Non-dwarf SB0 Galaxies in the Central Region of Coma Cluster

In this paper we explore the formation of bars and present the bulge and bar properties and their correlations for a sample of lenticular barred(SB0)and lenticular unbarred(S0)galaxies in the central region of the Coma Cluster using HST/ACS *** our sample,we identified bar features using the luminosity profile decomposition software *** classified the bulges based on Sérsic index and Kormendy *** found that the average mass of the bulge in SB0 galaxies is 1.48×10^(10)M☉whereas the average mass of the bulge in S0 galaxies is 4.3×10^(10)M☉.We observe that SB0 galaxies show lower bulge concentration,low mass and also smaller B/T values compared to S0 *** the Kormendy relation,we found that among the lenticular barred galaxies,82%have classical bulges and 18%have pseudo *** classical bulges have low masses compared to the classical bulges of unbarred galaxies.S0,galaxies with massive classical bulges do not host *** also found that for all SB0s the bulge effective radius is less than the bar effective ***0 galaxies with classical bulges suggest that the bar may have formed by mergers.

Proteomic analysis of differentially abundant proteins in the embryo and endosperm of Givotia moluccana (L.) Sreem

Proteome analysis of embryo and endosperm of Givotia moluccana,a promising angiosperm tree species was carried out using two-dimensional electrophoresis combined with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight to identify differentially abundant proteins and their possible *** study revealed the presence of 492 protein spots in the embryo and 432 in the endosperm,and the relative abundance of 44 spots varied significantly between the *** the 21 functionally characterized protein spots,14.3%were involved in metabolism and energy,28.6%in protein destination and storage,14.3%in defense and stress and 19%in cell growth and *** embryo-specific protein ATPdependent zinc metalloprotease FtsH is predicted to be involved in chloroplast biogenesis and the endospermspecific protein hydroxyacyl-ACP dehydratase in fatty acid *** results suggested that the seeds have proteins required for germination and for stress responses.

Oscillatory-Plus-Transient Signal Decomposition Using TQWT and MCA

This paper describes a method for decomposing a signal into the sum of an oscillatory component and a transient component. The process uses the tunable Q-factor wavelet transform (TQWT): The oscillatory component is modeled as a signal that can be sparsely denoted by high Q-factor TQWT;similarly, the transient component is modeled as a piecewise smooth signal that can be sparsely denoted using low Q-factor TQWT. Since the low and high Q-factor TQWT has low coherence, the morphological component analysis (MCA) can effectively decompose the signal into oscillatory and transient components. The corresponding optimization problem of MCA is resolved by the split augmented Lagrangian shrinkage algorithm (SALSA). The applications of the proposed method to speech, electroencephalo-graph (EEG), and electrocardiograph (ECG) signals are included.

Perceptual tolerance neighborhood-based similarity in content-based image retrieval and classification

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of using perceptual tolerance neighbourhoods in tolerance space-based image similarity measures and its application in content-based image classification and ***/methodology/approach–The proposed method in this paper is based on a set-theoretic approach,where an image is viewed as a set of local visual *** method also includes a tolerance relation that detects the similarity between pairs of elements,if the difference between corresponding feature vectors is less than a threshold 2(0,1).Findings–It is shown that tolerance space-based methods can be successfully used in a complete content-based image retrieval(CBIR)***,it is shown that perceptual tolerance neighbourhoods can replace tolerance classes in CBIR,resulting in more accuracy and less ***/value–The main contribution of this paper is the introduction of perceptual tolerance neighbourhoods instead of tolerance classes in a new form of the Henry-Peters tolerance-based nearness measure(tNM)and a new neighbourhood-based tolerance-covering nearness measure(tcNM).Moreover,this paper presents a side–by–side comparison of the tolerance space based methods with other published methods on a test dataset of images.
