Comparative effects of composted organic waste and inorganic fertilizer on nitrate leachate from the farm soils of northern guam

The purpose of this study was to quantify the release of nitrate into vadose zone as well as the nitrogen-holding capacity of compost applied on calcareous soils of northern guam amended with both inorganic fertilizer and composted organic waste,to examine potentially adverse effect of these nutrient materials to groundwater *** different nitrogen levels each of the composted organic waste and the inorganic fertilizer were applied to corn(maize)(farmland)study plots for three consecutive seasons,two dry and one rainy *** each season,soil organic matter(SOM,w/w%)content and carbon-nitrogen ratio(C/N,w/w%),were determined for analysis of the nitrogen-holding capacity of these calcareous *** levels in soil pore water were also determined for study of potential groundwater *** three seasons,compost plots showed higher SOM%contents and lower C/N%than fertilizer *** is,compost-treated soils showed higher SOM content and adsorbed more nitrogen under normalized soil mass than did fertilizer-treated *** levels in pore water were generally higher on compost plots during early stages of corn but were generally higher on fertilizer plots during active leaf,tasseling,and maturity *** the rainy season,nitrate leachate seemed to increase,but this trend could not be confirmed because rainfall amounts were not ***,composted organic waste proved to be a good amendment for soil productivity and agricultural sustainability while reducing nitrate leachate from northern guam farmland.

In the modern democratic society, all people should have freedom of access to, holding, and imparting various formats of information. However, many human fences have limited the freedom of access to information and the free flow of Internet communications. This paper extracts passages from selected international accords and U. S. statutes relating to the peoples fights of access to information. It also highlights many U.S. government activities relating to its national security after the September - 11 terrorist attacks and peoples reactions with regard to their consequences on the freedom of access to Internet information.

In recent years,the destruction of habitats has reduced the wild goat population in the Haftad-Gholleh protected *** wild goat (Capra aegagrus) is known as symbol of biodiversity of Markazi *** a field study conducted between 2007 and 2017,the number of wild goats were surveyed and threat to their habitat were determined as the population and the ecological conditions as well as their movements in the Haftad-Gholleh were *** image of year 2018 was used to produce digital land use maps for this *** Quality,Rarity and Risk Assessment was performed with ESM,HQR and HRA *** images were classified into three classes including;Agriculture-livestock,Rangeland,and Residential *** results indicated that 75% of the casualties of the wild goat by Peste des Petits Ruminants disease were from the Chekab Valley and 25% from the Sibak *** 80% of deaths among the population of wild goats were observed in the month of ***,there are two important mountainous and plains habitats in the Haftad-Gholleh *** the biggest threats and more devastating stressors in the region were to villagers,agricultural-livestock and roads ***,among the stressors,the agriculture-livestock caused more deaths in the mountainous habitat of the wild ***,there is an urgent need for habitat conservation of the existing population of the wild goat in Haftad-Gholleh area.

Meighan Wetland and its surroundings have undergone many changes in recent *** study aims to monitor and predict land use changes using the land change model (LCM) module in the Meighan *** Sat images of years 2000,2007 and 2015 were used to produce digital land use *** images were classified into seven classes including;Salt lake,Agriculture,Rangeland,Manmade,Wastewater,Wetland and Mine *** LCM module in Idrisi GIS software was used to analyze the land use changes for predicting the land uses status in 2015,based on artificial neural network (ANN) and Markov Chain *** ANN was trained with various influencing factors including;distance from road,distance from manmade areas,distance from land changed edge,distance from stream,elevation and *** results indicated that 1663.88 ha of the rangeland cover and 715.68 ha of the salt lake cover have been degraded during the 2000-2015 ***,the wetland,mine,wastewater and manmade degradation are increased to 724 ha,335 ha,37 ha and 270 ha in comparison to initial land ***,the result shows that rangeland and salt lake areas will decrease in the year 2030 compare to 2015,while,wetland,mine and manmade land changes may increase.

Talakhaya watershed in Rota is identified as a Coral Reef Management Priority site for CNMI (Com-monwealth of Northern Mariana Islands). In 2010 federal and jurisdictional partners developed a Con-servation Action Plan (CAP) for the Talakhaya Watershed. The goal of this initial Watershed Soil Loss Assessment therefore, was to assist in evaluating the re-vegetation objectives of 'Mitigating Sediment Load' in the Talakhaya watershed by making a thorough characterization of its main river systems. The objectives of this project were to reach those goals by measuring the hydrological parameters following the installation and the use of water meters, barometric level loggers, turbidity meters and rain gauges. The water flow as well as the turbidity level of each stream leading to the ocean from the Talakhaya Watershed was measured and sedimentation level was assessed accordingly. The results from the monitoring of the watershed conducted during the project timeline reported here show that all four rivers under study have statistically different stage-discharge curves. The river's relationship between time and turbidity also vary especially in the summer months of the first-year observations. Linear and convex polynomial relationships were sometimes observed in the different rainfall groupings for the four river systems, however relationships were often not significant. This-being-said, Quantile Regressions suggest that when data from all four river systems are combined for cases where there is some de-tectable rainfall, a maximum possible turbidity level can be defined.

This initial research examined the presence, distribution and bioavailability of Cu, Cr, Ni, Mn and Fe in a wetland area of southern guam. The research sites are within an area covered with saporite, a soil type derived from volcanic deposits on the island. Leaf tissue of Pandanus tectorius was extracted and analysed to determine the bioaccumulation of the target metals. Metal accumulation at sites considered aerobic and anaerobic was investigated together with an attempt to correlate actual accumulation of the target metals in the plant tissue with a recognised bioavailability indicator, in this case, three step sequential extraction scheme. Manganese was found to be accumulated in relatively high concentrations and to a lesser extent Cu was also accumulated. Chromium, Ni and Fe however exhibited very low accumulation factors. Accumulation of Mn in particular was significantly affected by aerobic conditions whereas the converse effect was experienced by Cu. Significant correlation between various steps of a Sequential Extraction Scheme and actual accumulation was not achieved although the degree of aerobic conditions at each site and soil pH did affect concentrations of metals extracted by differing steps of SES. Results obtained suggest that further research in the area should be undertaken using different plant species and tissues.

Issues are arising regarding the large amount of money provided to top executives in many compames tor Uaetr bonuses and incentives. These huge amounts for executive compensation are being questioned in comparison to the dividends received by stockholders. Four companies are analyzed： Citigroup, Starbucks, General Electric （GE）, and Kraft Foods. Present issues faced by Citigroup show that the company＇s provision in their executive compensation is not acceptable, On the other hand, Starbucks, GE, and Kraft Foods are the companies that follow legal rules provided by the Securities and Exchange Commission （SEC） in providing compensations to executives. Thus, they are good exemplars to other companies.
