The myeloperoxidase (MPO) is an important microbicidal protein present at high concentration in the primary granule of mature granulocyte and its expression is regulated in both myeloidcell-lineage and premyelocytic-stagespecific manners. A better understanding of the underlying control mechanisms should provide insights into the temporal and co-ordinate regulation of the gene expression during granulopoiesis. We have identified its promoter by mapping the start(s) of transcription using various molecular approaches together with demonstrating the promoter function of the relevant DNA segment in a transient transfection reporter assay. Besides the major start of transcription mapped at G residue, 11 nucleotide upstream of the 3’ end of exon 0, the usage of that is specific to the MPO expressing cell lines, we have shown that irrespective of the MPO-expression status of the hematopoietic cells, transcription occurs broadly within a two kb region upstream of the 5’ proximity of the gene, and is largely terminated in nitron 2. These data support a model of the pre myelocytic-stage-specific MPO expression, the control of which is operated at initiation as well as elongation levels of transcription.

Digital, coding, and programmable metasurfaces have attracted widespread attention in wireless communication fields owing to their distinguished capability in manipulating electromagnetic (EM)waves [1]. Metasurfaces consist of planar subwavelength meta-atoms and are a twodimensional form of metamaterials [2].These engineered surfaces can flexibly control the properties of EM waves, such as magnitude, phase, and polarization. In particular, coding metasurfaces provide a bridge between the digital world and the physical world. Accordingly, modeling and analyzing the coding metasurfaces from the perspective of information theory has become one of the most important research focuses of the scientific community [3,4].

The reduction of nitrate to nitrite by the oral microbiota has been proposed to be important for oral health and results in nitric oxide formation that can improve cardiometabolic conditions. Studies of bacterial composition in subgingival plaque suggest that nitrate-reducing bacteria are associated with periodontal health, but the impact of periodontitis on nitrate-reducing capacity(NRC)and, therefore, nitric oxide availability has not been evaluated. The current study aimed to evaluate how periodontitis affects the NRC of the oral microbiota. First, 16S rRNA sequencing data from five different countries were analyzed, revealing that nitratereducing bacteria were significantly lower in subgingival plaque of periodontitis patients compared with healthy individuals(P < 0.05 in all five datasets with n = 20–82 samples per dataset). Secondly, subgingival plaque, saliva, and plasma samples were obtained from 42 periodontitis patients before and after periodontal treatment. The oral NRC was determined in vitro by incubating saliva with 8 mmol/L nitrate(a concentration found in saliva after nitrate-rich vegetable intake) and compared with the NRC of 15healthy individuals. Salivary NRC was found to be diminished in periodontal patients before treatment(P < 0.05) but recovered to healthy levels 90 days post-treatment. Additionally, the subgingival levels of nitrate-reducing bacteria increased after treatment and correlated negatively with periodontitis-associated bacteria(P < 0.01). No significant effect of periodontal treatment on the baseline saliva and plasma nitrate and nitrite levels was found, indicating that differences in the NRC may only be revealed after nitrate intake. Our results suggest that an impaired NRC in periodontitis could limit dietary nitrate-derived nitric oxide levels, and the effect on systemic health should be explored in future studies.

With integration of large-scale renewable energy,new controllable devices,and required reinforcement of power grids,modern power systems have typical characteristics such as uncertainty,vulnerability and openness,which makes operation and control of power grids face severe security challenges.Application of artificial intelligence(AI)technologies represented by machine learning in power grid regulation is limited by reliability,interpretability and generalization ability of complex modeling.Mode of hybrid-augmented intelligence(HAI)based on human-machine collaboration(HMC)is a pivotal direction for future development of AI technology in this field.Based on characteristics of applications in power grid regulation,this paper discusses system architecture and key technologies of human-machine hybrid-augmented intelligence(HHI)system for large-scale power grid dispatching and control(PGDC).First,theory and application scenarios of HHI are introduced and analyzed;then physical and functional architectures of HHI system and human-machine collaborative regulation process are proposed.Key technologies are discussed to achieve a thorough integration of human/machine intelligence.Finally,state-of-theart and future development of HHI in power grid regulation are summarized,aiming to efficiently improve the intelligent level of power grid regulation in a human-machine interactive and collaborative way.

Power transformers are key elements for the safe and reliable delivery of electrical energy generated by renewable energy resources to consumers via transmission lines.Fault‐tolerant current‐limiting High Temperature Superconducting(FTCL HTS)transformers are type of superconducting transformers that tolerate fault for seconds and limit the fault current without the threat of burnout or delamination of tapes and deformation of windings.In this paper,the fault performance of a FTCL HTS transformer in a standard IEEE power system is investigated.The studied transformer is a 50 MVA 132 kV/13.8 kV transformer where both windings are made up of HTS tapes.The understudied power system consists of two microgrids with distributed generators.Part of the power in microgrids is supplied by the upstream grid which is connected to the microgrids through the HTS transformers.Two fault scenarios have been considered in this power system,in each one of these scenarios,a fault happens in one of the microgrids.Two considered fault scenarios have an approximate fault current of 18x to 23x of the rated current in the secondary windings.Results showed that insulated windings in FTCL HTS transformers could substantially reduce the peak temperature of the HTS windings,compared to bare windings.Afterwards,post‐fault loading is imposed on the HTS windings,to observe their performance against the current increase after fault clearance.In this case,for the first scenario of the faults,the FTCL HTS transformer could tolerate 192%of post‐fault overloading,while this number for the second fault scenario is 170%.Finally,the impact of post‐fault loading on the full recovery time was discussed.

The 3D location and dipole orientation of light emitters provide essential information in many biological,chemical,and physical systems.Simultaneous acquisition of both information types typically requires pupil engineering for 3D localization and dual-channel polarization splitting for orientation deduction.Here we report a geometric phase helical point spread function for simultaneously estimating the 3D position and dipole orientation of point emitters.It has a compact and simpler optical configuration compared to polarization-splitting techniques and yields achromatic phase modulation in contrast to pupil engineering based on dynamic phase,showing great potential for single-molecule orientation and localization microscopy.

We present a short retrospective review of the existing literature about the dynamics of(dry)granular matter under the effect of vibrations.The main objective is the development of an integrated resource where vital information about past findings and recent discoveries is provided in a single treatment.Special attention is paid to those works where successful synthetic routes to as-yet unknown phenomena were identified.Such landmark results are analyzed,while smoothly blending them with a history of the field and introducing possible categorizations of the prevalent dynamics.Although no classification is perfect,and it is hard to distillate general properties out of specific observations or realizations,two possible ways to interpret the existing results are defined according to the type of forcing or the emerging(ensuing)regime of motion.In particular,first results concerning the case where vibrations and gravity are concurrent(vertical shaking)are examined,then the companion situation with vibrations perpendicular to gravity(horizontal shaking)is described.Universality classes are introduced as follows:(1)Regimes where sand self-organizes leading to highly regular geometrical“pulsating”patterns(thin layer case);(2)Regimes where the material undergoes“fluidization”and develops an internal multicellular convective state(tick layers case);(3)Regimes where the free interface separating the sand from the overlying gas changes inclination or develops a kind a patterned configuration consisting of stable valleys and mountains or travelling waves;(4)Regimes where segregation is produced,i.e.,particles of a given size tend to be separated from the other grains(deep containers).Where possible,an analogy or parallelism is drawn with respect to the companion field of fluid-dynamics for which the assumption of“continuum”can be applied.

Domoic acid (DA)， a biotoxin， is produced by several species of marine dinoflagellate and diatom during harmful algal bloom events. DA is a neurotoxin， in humans and non-human primates， oral exposure to DA results in gastrointestinal effects， while DA at higher doses leads to neurological symptoms， seizures and memory deficiency. Exposure of humans to DA occurs mainly through consumption of contaminated seafoods containing an accumulation of the toxin. Previously， it was unclear if DA can have toxic effects on the retina. We assessed the toxicity of DA in human retinal cells (ARPE-19) and in zebrafish embryos. DA significantly lowered ARPE-19 cell viability dose-dependently， and decreased anti-oxidative capacity， increased inflammation， and promoted cell death， possibly through modulating the NRF2 and NF-κB signalling pathways. Zebrafish embryos exposed to DA for four days from one day post fertilization (dpf) had an increase in mortality and a decrease in both hatching and heartbeat rate and exhibited morphological abnormalities. DA treatment also significantly downregulated expression of antioxidant genes and upregulated expression of inflammation mediators， as well as causing photoreceptor death in zebrafish embryos. The results demonstrate that consuming seafood containing DA will have potential toxic effects in human retinas.

This study investigated the impact of China’s monetary policy on both the money market and stock markets,assuming that non-policy variables would not respond contemporaneously to changes in policy variables.Monetary policy adjustments are swiftly observed in money markets and gradually extend to the stock market.The study examined the effects of monetary policy shocks using three primary instruments:interest rate policy,reserve requirement ratio,and open market operations.Monthly data from 2007 to 2013 were analyzed using vector error correction(VEC)models.The findings suggest a likely presence of long-lasting and stable relationships among monetary policy,the money market,and stock markets.This research holds practical implications for Chinese policymakers,particularly in managing the challenges associated with fluctuation risks linked to high foreign exchange reserves,aiming to achieve autonomy in monetary policy and formulate effective monetary strategies to stimulate economic growth.
