The rapid expansion of the field of optical communications,in both its classical and quantum variants,has led to a desire to increase the bandwidth available for encoding information[1,2].Effects such as crosstalk[3]due to polarization rotation,linearly polarized(LP)mode interactions,four-wave mixing,and linear dispersion often reduce the maximum achievable bandwidth in classical communication systems,while degrading the fidelity and security of their quantum *** angular momentum(OAM)modes are independent eigenstates suitable for spatial division multiplexing in fiber and free-space transmission.

Infection caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV2)virus,responsible for the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,induces symptoms including increased inflammatory response,severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS),cognitive dysfunction like brain fog,and cardiovascular ***-term effects of SARS-CoV2 COVID-19 syndrome referred to as post-COVID-19 syndrome on age-related progressive neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease remain *** the targeted misexpression of individual SARS-CoV2 proteins in the retinal neurons of the Drosophila melanogaster eye,we found that misexpression of nonstructural protein 3(Nsp3),a papain-like protease,ablates the eye and generates dark necrotic *** misexpression of Nsp3 in the eye triggers reactive oxygen species production and leads to apoptosis as shown by cell death reporters,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase(TdT)dUTP Nick-end labeling(TUNEL)assay,and dihydroethidium ***,Nsp3 misexpression activates both apoptosis and autophagy mechanism(s)to regulate tissue *** expression of SARS-CoV2 Nsp3 in murine neuroblastoma,Neuro-2a cells,significantly reduced the metabolic activity of these cells and triggers cell *** of SARS-CoV2 Nsp3 in an Alzheimer's disease transgenic fly eye model(glass multiple repeats[GMR]>amyloidβ42)further enhances the neurodegenerative rough eye phenotype due to increased cell *** findings suggest that SARS-CoV2 utilizes Nsp3 protein to potentiate cell death response in a neurodegenerative disease background that has high pre-existing levels of neuroinflammation and cell death.

In this work,impact of low level of uranium(U)atom substitution on thermal conductivity of thorium dioxide(ThO_(2))is ***_(2)is an electronic insulator with a wide optical band-gap and no unpaired electrons whose thermal transport is governed by phonons.U-substitution introduces unpaired f-electrons resulting in paramagnetic behavior of UeThO_(2)at room temperature,which significantly suppresses its thermal conductivity.A single crystal of UeThO_(2)with graded composition of U is grown using a hydrothermal synthesis method,and thermal conductivity measurements are performed in re-gions with uniform composition of U at levels of 0%,6%,9%and 16%.Measured thermal conductivity profiles over 77e300 K temperature range are analyzed using an analytical expression for phonon-mediated thermal transport based on Klemens-Callaway *** dependent thermal con-ductivity is found to deviate significantly from the Rayleigh scattering trend expected for a simple substitutional point defect with a small perturbation to mass and interatomic *** the resonant scattering term,observed large suppression of thermal conductivity at low temperatures can be closely ***,the extracted phonon-spin coupling constants imply a nonlinear relation of phonon-spin interaction intensity with respect to U doping *** study reveals how phonon-spin scattering contributed by unpaired f-electrons in U atoms influences thermal transport in the UeThO_(2)system.

Understanding the impact of meltwater discharge during the final stage of the Laurentide Ice Sheet(LIS)has important implications for predicting sea level rise and climate *** we present a highresolution ice-core isotopic record from the central Tibetan Plateau(TP),where the climate is sensitive to the meltwater forcing,and explore possible signals of the climate response to potential LIS meltwater discharges in the early to *** record shows four abrupt large fluctuations during the 7–9 ka BP(kiloannum before present),reflecting large shifts of the mid-latitude westerlies and the Indian summer monsoon(ISM)over this period,and they corresponded to possible LIS freshwater events documented in other paleoclimate *** study suggests that multiple rapid meltwater discharge events might have occurred during the final stage of *** finding implies the possibility of rapid sea level rise and unstable climate in the transition zone between the mid-latitude westerlies and the ISM due to fast polar ice retreat under the anthropogenic global warming.

Accurate frequency estimation in a wideband digital receiver using the FFT algorithm encounters challenges, such as spectral leakage resulting from the FFT’s assumption of signal periodicity. High-resolution FFTs pose computational demands, and estimating non-integer multiples of frequency resolution proves exceptionally challenging. This paper introduces two novel methods for enhanced frequency precision: polynomial interpolation and array indexing, comparing their results with super-resolution and scalloping loss. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods in contemporary radar systems, with array indexing providing the best frequency estimation despite utilizing maximum hardware resources. The paper demonstrates a trade-off between accurate frequency estimation and hardware resources when comparing polynomial interpolation and array indexing.

Many *** incentivize residential energy reduction through rebates,often in response to state mandates for energy reduction or from a desire to reduce demand to mitigate the need to grow generating *** assumption built into incentive programs is that the least efficient residences will be more likely take advantage of the ***,however,is not always the *** main goal of this study was to determine the potential for prioritized incentivization,i.e.,prioritizing incentives that deliver the greatest energy savings per invest-ment through an entire *** uses a data mining approach that leverages known building and energy characteristics for predicting energy consumption of houses that collectively can be considered representative of all residences within an entire *** this model,it estimates natural gas consumption and savings,and corresponding implementation costs associated with the adoption of the most impactful energy reduction *** resulting savings and cost estimates allow us to develop a sequential energy reduction strategy whereby the most economic measures within the whole utility district are *** results show that an energy reduction of 36%can be achieved at a levelized cost of less than$14 per mmBTU($14,780 per MJ),demonstrating the strong potential of this approach.A corresponding Economic Input–Output Analysis captures the cascading community economic impacts of this *** results show that for the roughly 45,000 single-family residences in the studied region,an initial energy efficiency investment of$26M could result in a total cascading multiplier economic impact of$41M and additional economic impacts of$2.2M for the lifetime of the considered energy efficiency measures.

Network traffic classification is essential in supporting network measurement and *** existing traffic classification approaches provide application-level results regardless of the network quality of service(QoS)*** practice,traffic flows from the same application may have irregular network behaviors that should be identified to various QoS classes for best network resource *** address the issues,we propose to conduct traffic classification with two newly defined QoSaware features,i.e.,inter-APP similarity and intraAPP *** inter-APP similarity represents the close QoS association between the traffic flows that originate from the different Internet *** intra-APP diversity describes the QoS variety of the traffic even among those originated from the same Internet *** core of performing the QoS-aware feature extraction is a Long-Short Term Memory neural network based Autoencoder(LSTMAE).The QoS-aware features extracted by the encoder part of the LSTM-AE are then clustered into the corresponding QoS ***-life data from multiple applications are collected to evaluate the proposed QoS-aware network traffic classification *** evaluation results demonstrate the efficacy of the extracted QoS-aware features in supporting the traffic classification,which can further contribute to future network measurement and management.

Subsurface stratigraphy is critical to the design,construction,and subsequent performance of geotechnical ***,in practice it is impossible to identify the stratigraphy of a subsurface geological domain with absolute certainty,due to the limitations imposed by geotechnical investigation techniques and project *** paper presents a subsurface stratigraphic modeling and uncertainty quantification approach,which is established based on an improved and extended geological modeling technique previously established by the author and others,for simulating the stratigraphy of both two-dimensional(2D)and three-dimensional(3D)cases with more complex geological ***,this approach provides quantitative evaluation of the amount of stratigraphic uncertainty in the current interpretation and enables the systematic reduction of stratigraphic uncertainty through the investigation of additional targeted borehole drilling *** examples,including artificial cases as well as two real cases from existing geotechnical projects,are presented in this study to demonstrate the use of the proposed analysis approach.
