Short-term microbial responses to soluble inorganic P input in a tropical lowland rain forest in Amazonia

Fourier transform is applied to remove the time-dependent variable in the diffusion *** non-harmonic initial conditions this gives rise to a non-homogeneous Helmholtz equation,which is solved by the method of fundamental solutions and the method of particular *** particular solution of Helmholtz equation is available as shown in[4,15].The approximate solution in frequency domain is then inverted numerically using the inverse Fourier transform *** frequencies are used in order to avoid aliasing phenomena and to allow the computation of the static *** numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach for solving 2-D diffusion equations.

A history of standardization in the English translation of traditional Chinese medicine terminology

In order to facilitate and propose further international standardization of traditional Chinese medicine（TCM） terminology, this article applies methods of historiography, philology and descriptive study to divide the history of TCM into three phases, based on representative experts and social events; to illustrate different aspects of these experts and their translation principles and standards and to discuss associated factors and inherent problems. The authors find that the development of a terminology standard for TCM has generally progressed from early approaches that were ill-suited to the contemporary needs to culturally and professionally referenced approaches, from uncoordinated research to systematic studies, and from individual works to collaborative endeavors. The present international standards of TCM terminology have been attained through the work of numerous scholars and experts in the history of the field. The authors are optimistic that a more comprehensive and recognized standard will come out soon.

The development of biotechnology-based active pharmaceutical ingredients, such as GLP-1 analogs, brought changes in type 2 diabetes treatment options. For better therapeutic efficiency, these active pharmaceutical ingredients require appropriate administration, without the development of adverse effects or toxicity. Therefore, it is required to develop several quantification methods for GLP-1 analogs products, in order to achieve the therapeutic goals, among which ELISA and HPLC arise. These methods are developed, optimized and validated in order to determine GLP-1 analogs, not only in final formulation of the active pharmaceutical ingredient, but also during preclinical and clinical trials assessment. This review highlights the role of ELISA and HPLC methods that have been used during the assessment for GLP-1 analogs, especially for exenatide.

Bifurcaria bifurcata is a seaweed of the Order Fucales(Ochrophyta,Phaeophyceae)that can be found all year round along the Portuguese Atlantic *** it is considered edible in some countries,its biotechnological potential has not yet been assessed in detail and here we report its antimicrobial potential against human dermatophyte *** samples were harvested from Baleal Island(Peniche,Portugal)harvested in winter(BbPe);from Aguda Beach(Arcozelo,Vila Nova de Gaia,Portugal),harvested in autumn(BbAg)and a sample obtained by culturing the Aguda sample under laboratory conditions(BbLC).A broth macrodilution assay was applied to determine the MIC(minimum inhibitory concentration)and MLC(minimum lethal concentration)of the *** *** show that the BbPe MeOH extracts were the most effective and had higher antifungal activity against all the tested dermatophyte strains than the BbLC and BaAg extracts[Epidermophyton floccosum FF9(100–200μg/mL MIC;200μg/mL MLC),Microsporum canis FF1(400μg/mL MIC;≥400μg/mL MLC),Trichophyton mentagrophytes FF7(100μg/mL MIC;>800μg/mL MLC),*** CECT 2908(800μg/mL MIC;≥800μg/mL MLC),*** *** CECT 2958(800μg/mL MIC;≥800μg/mL MLC),*** CECT 2794(200μg/mL MIC;≥400μg/mL MLC)].In fact,only *** FF9 was sensitive to BbAg and BbLC MeOH *** our knowledge,this is the first report of antifungal activity of *** against human dermatophyte fungi.

More effective approaches are needed in the treatment of blood cancers,in particular acute myeloid leukemia(AML),that are able to eliminate resistant leukemia stem cells(LSCs)at the bone marrow(BM),after a chemotherapy session,and then enhance hematopoietic stem cell(HSC)engraftment for the re-establishment of the HSC ***,we investigate whether light-activatable nanoparticles(NPs)encapsulating all-trans-retinoic acid(RA^(+)NPs)could solve both *** in vitro results show that mouse AML cells transfected with RA^(+)NPs differentiate towards antitumoral M1 macrophages through RIG.1 and OASL gene *** in vivo results further show that mouse AML cells transfected with RA^(+)NPs home at the BM after transplantation in an AML mouse *** photo-disassembly of the NPs within the grafted cells by a blue laser enables their differentiation towards a macrophage *** macrophage activation seems to have systemic anti-leukemic effect within the BM,with a significant reduction of leukemic cells in all BM compartments,of animals treated with RA^(+)NPs,when compared with animals treated with empty *** a separate group of experiments,we show for the first time that normal HSCs transfected with RA^(+)NPs show superior engraftment at the BM niche than cells without treatment or treated with empty *** is the first time that the activity of RA is tested in terms of long-term hematopoietic reconstitution after transplant using an in situ activation approach without any exogenous priming or genetic conditioning of the transplanted ***,the approach documented here has the potential to improve consolidation therapy in AML since it allows a dual intervention in the BM niche:to tackle resistant leukemia and improve HSC engraftment at the same time.

G protein-coupled receptor 37 (GPR37), also known as parkin associated endothelin-like (Pael) receptor, is an orphan G protein- coupled receptor, which suffers a defective parking ubiquitination in autosomal recessive Parkinson’s disease promoting its endoplasmic reticulum aggregation and stress, neurotoxicity and neuronal death (Takahashi and Imai, 2003). Interestingly, we have demonstrated previously that GPR37 heteromerizes with adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) in the striatum (Morato et al., 2017;Sokolina et al., 2017).

Design multifunctional Mg–Zr coatings regulating Mg alloy bioabsorption

The Principle of Proportionality in the Portuguese Tax Law： A Case of Its Application

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the application of the principle of proportionality based on a case relating to a Portuguese economic group operating in the transportation sector. The group applied for being taxed under the regime of the group relief, as established in the Portuguese Corporate Income Tax Code （CITC）, and the tax authorities approved the request in 2002. The group＇s accounts for 2003 were audited by tax inspectors in 2007. In 2008, the accounts from 2004 to 2006 were also under a tax auditing. Following such audits and basing on, in the author＇s view, some minor faults, the tax administration disallowed the use of group relief for four consecutive years （from 2003 to 2006）. The financial implication was that 12 million Euros in additional taxes were charged to the group. Such an increase in the income tax would wipe out profits for two consecutive years, thus, pushing the effective tax rate to 100%. Such an economic result fell outside what seemed to be a balanced application of the law, by disregarding financial consequences from minor tax faults, some of which were voluntarily corrected by the group

Regional Stability for National Survival： Iran＇s Foreign Policy Towards the Southern Caucasus and Central Asia in the Post-Soviet Era

This paper focuses on Iran＇s foreign policy towards the Caucasus and Central Asia regions in the post-Soviet Union era, using a theoretical approach which stresses the importance of historical and geographical contextualization for the analysis of foreign policy. The article＇s main argument is that Iranian foreign policy towards these regions in the last 25 years, although the result of a complex and multi-layered decision-making process, has been led by two unifying long-term objectives： regional stability and national security. In order to demonstrate this argument, the article undertakes a factual analysis focusing on the role Iran played during the main regional conflicts that have occurred since the Soviet Union＇s collapse in Central Asia and the Caucasus, as well as the diplomatic re-engagement Iran has been building with the countries of these two regions after the end of the Iran nuclear deal. Standard interpretations of Iran＇s foreign policy define it as a player with hegemonic ambitions whose foreign policy is mainly led by ideological factors. This paper assumes that foreign policy＇s analysis needs time and space contextualization. Once historical and geographical factors are taken into account----of which the most important are Iran＇s proximity to Russia and Afghanistan along with its international diplomatic isolation due to nuclear sanctions--then Iran＇s foreign policy in Central Asia and the Caucasus appears to be that of a regional power interested in maintaining the existing status quo. Stability and territorial integrity in these two regions in fact are seen by Teheran as necessary conditions for Iran＇s own territorial integrity and internal security. The paper is based on both secondary and primary sources, most of them official statements, all in the public domain.
