A thorough literature review is conducted that pertains to low-salinity-based enhanced oil recovery(EOR).This is meant to be a comprehensive review of all the refereed published papers,conference papers,master’s theses and other reports in this *** review is specifically focused on establishing various relations/characteristics or"screening criteria"such as:(1)classification/grouping of clays that have shown or are amenable to low-salinity benefits;(2)clay types *** of residual oil saturations;(3)API gravity and down hole oil viscosity range that is amenable for low salinity;(4)salinity range for EOR benefits;(5)pore sizes,porosity,absolute permeability and wettability range for low-salinity EOR;(6)continuous low-salinity injection ***-wise injection;(7)grouping of possible low-salinity mechanisms;(8)contradictions or similarities between laboratory experiments and field evidence;and(9)compositional variations in tested low-salinity waters.A proposed screening criterion for low-salinity waterflooding is *** can be concluded that either one or more of these mechanisms,or a combination thereof,may be the case-specific mechanism,i.e.,depending on the particular oil–brine–rock(OBR)system rather than something that is"universal"or universally ***,every OBR system that is unique or specific ought to be individually investigated to determine the benefits(if any)of low-salinity water injection;however,the proposed screening criteria may help in narrowing down some of the dominant responsible *** this review primarily focuses on sandstones,given the prominence of carbonates containing^60%of the world’s oil reserves,a summary of possible mechanisms and screening criteria,pertaining to low-salinity waterflooding,for carbonates is also ***,the enhancement of polymer flooding by using low-salinity water as a makeup water to further decrease the residual oil saturation is also discussed.

A new module design concept that integrates materials engineering with thermoelectric module optimization is *** concept transforms the gaps between thermoelements and couples into internal space/pores within the elements to eliminate heat loss and thus to enhance module *** effect of the internal pore structure on module performance was studied using two effective medium *** modeling results demonstrated that the power generation of the proposed module design increased by~8%and the efficiency increased>20%compared to those of the traditional module *** effect of the inclusion of the second solid phase in the composite on module performance was also studied using nine different high-efficiency thermoelectric materials as the *** modeling results showed that further increase in module performance up to~50%that of the traditional module design can be achieved.

Various uncertainty quantification methodologies are presented using a combination of several deter-ministic decline curve analysis models and two bootstrapping *** probabilistic models are applied to 126 sample wells from the Permian *** are presented for 12-72 months of pro-duction hindcast given an average well production history of 103 *** on the coverage rate and the forecast error(with the coverage rate being more significant in our choice of the best probabilistic models)and using up to one-half of the available production history for a group of sample wells from the Permian Basin,we find that the CBM-SEPD combination is the best probabilistic model for the Central Basin Platform,the MBM-Arps combination is the best probabilistic model for the Delaware Basin,the CBM-Arps is the best probabilistic model for the Midland Basin,and the best probabilistic model for the overall Permian Basin is the CBM-Arps when early time data is used as hindcast and CBM-SEPD for when one-quarter to one-half of the data is used as *** three-quarters or more of the available production history is used for analysis,the MBM-SEPD probabilistic model is the best combination in terms of both coverage rate and forecast error for all the sub-basins in the *** novelty of this work lies in its extension of bootstrapping methods to other decline curve analysis *** work also offers the engineer guidance on the best choice of probabilistic model whilst attempting to forecast production from the Permian Basin.

The present paper reviews advances in the study of two major intercontinental disjunct biogeographic patterns:(i) between Eurasian and western North American deserts with the Mediterranean climate(the Madrean-Tethyan disjunctions);and(ii) between the temperate regions of North and South America(the amphitropical disjunctions).Both disjunct patterns have multiple times of *** amphitropical disjunctions have largely resulted from long-distance dispersal,primarily from the Miocene to the Holocene,with available data indicating that most lineages dispersed from North to South *** of recent studies on the Mediterranean disjuncts between the deserts of Eurasia and western North America support the multiple modes of origin and are mostly consistent with hypotheses of long-distance dispersal and the North Atlantic ***’s Madrean-Tethyan hypothesis,which implies vicariance between the two regions in the early Tertiary,has been favored by a few *** Beringian migration corridor for semiarid taxa is also supported in some cases.

Distinct Modes of Winter Arctic Sea Ice Motion and Their Associations with Surface Wind Variability

Using monthly mean sea ice velocity data obtained from the International Arctic Buoy Programme （IABP） for the period of 1979–1998 and the monthly mean NCEP/NCAR re-analysis dataset （1960–2002）, we investigated the spatiotemporal evolution of the leading sea ice motion mode （based on a complex correlation matrix constructed of normalized sea ice motion velocity） and their association with sea level pressure （SLP） and the predominant modes of surface wind field variability. The results indicate that the leading winter sea ice motion mode’s spatial evolution is characterized by two alternating and distinct sea ice modes, or their linear combination. One mode （M1） shows a nearly closed cyclonic or anti-cyclonic circulation anomaly in the Arctic Basin and its marginal seas, resembling to a large extent the response of sea ice motion to the Arctic Oscillation （AO）, as many previous studies have revealed. The other mode （M2） displays a coherent cyclonic or anti-cyclonic circulation anomaly with its center close to the Laptev Sea, which has not been identified in previous observational studies. In fact, M1 and M2 respectively reflect the responses of sea ice motion to two predominant modes of winter surface wind variability north of 70 ？ N, which well correspond, with slight differences, to the first two modes of EOF analysis of winter monthly mean SLP north of 70 ？ N. These slight differences in SLP anomalies lead to a difference of M2 from the response of sea ice motion to the dipole anomaly. Although the AO significantly influences sea ice motion, it is not crucial for the existence of M1. The new sea ice motion mode （M2） has the largest variance and clearly differs from the response of winter monthly mean sea ice motion to the dipole anomaly in SLP fields, and corresponding SLP anomalies also show differences compared to the dipole anomaly. This paper builds on a recently published one-dimensional moving-boundary model of the coevolution of topset, foreset and bottomset in a reservoir that captures the dynamics of the internal muddy pond typical to reservoirs. This model was modified to account for different outlet locations at the reservoir’s downstream end. This model considers a river carrying two sustained phases of sediments: coarse (sand) and fine (mud). The coarse phase deposits in the topset and delta foreset, while the fine phase forms a dilute suspension of wash load in the river. As the river enters the reservoir, the muddy water plunges on the foreset to form a Froude-supercritical (purely depositional) turbidity current. This turbidity current emplaces the bottomset. The modified numerical model was tested against five laboratory experiments previously reported by the author. The model successfully locates the muddy-water/clear-water interface. In addition, modeled and measured bed deposits are in good agreement. Results clearly indicate that the location of the internal hydraulic jump plays a key role in the final bed deposit.

Objective:Despite the known benefits of integrated primary care and behavioral health services,integrated behavioral health services have not been readily used in medical clinics in interior *** minimal resources,we recently developed an integrated primary care-behavioral health program in a medical clinic in interior alaska to meet clinic and community *** objective of this study was to explore initial program outcomes and determine the feasibility of program development and ***:We initially conducted a needs assessment for integrating behavioral health services into primary *** development was informed by specific clinic *** program implementation,initial program outcomes were tracked with use of data from the electronic health record and patient and provider use and satisfaction *** level of integration of primary care and behavioral health services was evaluated with the Practice Integration ***:A total of 188 patients were seen by behavioral health consultants during the initial pilot phase,including 44.0%referred for mental health symptoms,33.1%referred for physical health issues,and 22.3%referred for both mental and physical health *** initial program outcomes indicate modest clinical improvement(measured by the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire)as well as patient and provider satisfaction with the model,and a moderate level of practice ***:On the basis of the initial findings,it appears that our integrated primary care-behavioral health program has the potential to serve an important role in addressing the behavioral health needs of the local *** implementation procedure and initial program outcomes suggest that such models are feasible in rural and small-scale settings with minimal overhead costs.

Aggregates suitable for use in asphalt concrete （AC） pavement construction must meet durability criteria. Thus, it is critical to select appropriate tests to properly characterize aggregate durability. In alaska, durability tests currently being used for aggregates in AC pavement include Los Angeles （LA） abrasion test, sulfate soundness test and Washington degradation test. However, there have long been concerns arising over Washington degradation test used as an acceptance tool, motivating pavement practitioners to seek more suitable alternatives. This paper presents a study to investigate the feasibility of using Micro-Deval test, commonly used in other states, to evaluate the durability of alaskan aggregates in AC pavement as well as its potential to replace Washington degradation test. Micro-Deval test, Washington degradation test and other tests currently specified in alaska were conducted on aggregates from 16 batches representing statewide sources. Based on the testing results, it is found that using Micro-Deval test for durability assessment of alaska aggregates was feasible and reproducible, and a high potential was revealed to use Micro-Deval test to replace Washington degradation test in alaska. It is recommended that Micro-Deval test be considered as an additional test for a certain period, but in the long run should be used along with current LA abrasion and sulfate soundness tests to provide a more desirable durability assessment of alaska aggregates used in AC pavement.
