Both biological and engineering approaches have contributed significantly to the recent advance in the field of *** with biologists,bio-engineers and materials scientists have employed the techniques stemming from the conventional semiconductor industry to rebuild cellular milieus that mimic critical aspects of in vivo conditions and elicit cell/tissue responses in *** reductionist approaches have help to unveil important mechanosensing mechanism in both cellular and tissue level,including stem cell differentiation and proliferation,tissue expansion,wound healing,and cancer *** this mini-review,we discuss various microfabrication methods that have been applied to generate specific properties and functions of designer substrates/devices,which disclose cell-microenvironment interactions and the underlying biological *** brief,we emphasize on the studies of cell/tissue mechanical responses to substrate adhesiveness,stiffness,topography,and shear ***,we comment on the new concepts of measurement and paradigms for investigations of biological mechanotransductions that are yet to emerge due to on-going interdisciplinary efforts in the fields of mechanobiology and microengineering.

AIM： To analyze the modulation of gene expression profile associated with inhibition of liver regeneration in hepatitis B X （HBx）-expressing transgenic mice. METHODS： Microarray technology was performed on liver tissue obtained from 4 control （LacZ） and 4 transgenic mice （HBx-LacZ）, 48 h after partial hepatectomy. The significance of the normalized logratios was assessed for each gene, using robust t-tests under an empirical Bayes approach. Microarray hybridization data was verified on selected genes by quantitative PCR. RESULTS： The comparison of gene expression patterns showed a consistent modulation of the expression of 26 genes, most of which are implicated in liver regeneration. Up-regulated genes included DNA repair proteins （Rad-52, MSH6） and transmembrane proteins （syndecan 4, tetraspanin）, while down-regulated genes were connected to the regulation of transcription （histone deacetylase, Zfp90, MyoDl） and were involved in the cholesterol metabolic pathway and isoprenoidbiosynthesis （farnesyl diphosphate synthase, Cyp7b1, geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase, SAA3）. CONCLUSION： Our results provide a novel insight into the biological activities of HBx, implicated in the inhibition of liver regeneration,

AIM： To investigate the role of Beclin 1 on the susceptibility of HepG2 cells to undergo apoptosis after anti-Fas antibody or doxorubicin treatment. METHODS： Beclin 1 silencing was achieved using RNA interference. DNA ploidy, the percentage of apoptotic cells and the mitochondrial membrane potential were assessed by flow cytometry. Levels of Beclin 1, BCI-XL and cytochrome c, and the cleavage of poly （ADP-ribose） polymerase （PARP） were assayed by using Western blots. RESULTS： Beclin 1 expression decreased by 75% 72 h after Beclin 1 siRNA transfection. Partial Beclin 1 silencing significantly increased the percentage of subG1 cells 24 and 40 h after treatment with doxorubicin or anti-Fas antibody, respectively, and this potentiation was abrogated by treatment with a pan-caspase inhibitor. Partial Beclin 1 silencing also increased PARP cleavage, mitochondrial membrane depolarization and cytosolic cytochrome c. The pro-apoptotic consequences of partial Beclin 1 silencing were not associated with a decline in Bcl-XL expression.CONCLUSION： Partial Beclin 1 silencing aggravates mitochondrial permeabilization and apoptosis in HepG2 cells treated with an anti-Fas antibody or with doxorubicin.

Background Knowledge gaps across literature prevent current guidelines from providing the profile of elderly patients most likely to derive benefit fi^om invasive strategy （IS） in non ST-elevation myocardial infarction （NSTEMI）. Furthermore, the benefit of IS in a real-world elderly population with NSTEMI remains unclear. The aims of this study were to determine factors that lead the cardiologist to opt for an IS in elderly patients with NSTEMI, and to assess the impact of IS on the 6-month all-cause mortality. Methods This multicenter prospective study enrolled all consecutive patients aged 〉 75 years old who presented a NSTEMI and were hospitalized in cardiology intensive care unit between February 2014 and February 2015. Patients were compared on the basis of reperfusion strategy （invasive or conservative） and living status at six months, in order to determine multivariate predictors of the realization of an IS and multivariate predictors of 6-month mor- tality. Results A total of 141 patients were included; 87 （62%） underwent an IS. The strongest independent determinants of IS were younger age [odds ratio （OR）： 0.85, 95%-confidence interval （CI）： 0.78-0.92; P 〈 0.001） and lower ＂Cumulative Illness Rating Scale-Geriatric＂ number of categories score （OR： 0.83, 95%CI： 0.73-0.95; P = 0.002）. IS was not significantly associated with 6-month survival （OR： 0.80, 95%CI： 0.27-2.38; P = 0.69）. Conclusions In real-world elderly patients with NSTEMI, younger patients with fewer comorbidities profited more often from an IS. However, IS did not modify 6-month all-cause mortality.

We present optical spectroscopic observations of SS 433 during different precessional and orbital *** 2004,2007 and 2008 data provide us a good chance to study the variability of the Hα line at different orbital phases for nearly the same disk *** data show that the Hα of SS 433 usually had a symmetric profile between orbital phases 0.25-0.75,while an asymmetric structure with a strong red peak was observed for other orbital *** suggest that the orbital variability of Hα emission is connected with accretion flow from the donor star to the accretion *** addition,we attribute the dramatic increase of Hα emission during our 2007 observational run,which had a time scale of one day,to the emergence of strong jets.
