Flood hazard monitoring and mapping is of great importance because it represents a significant contribution to risk management. The present study investigated the flood event that occurred downstream from the transboundary Strymon River basin, more specifically at Serres basin-a reservoir-regulated basin, in the beginning of 2015. The focus of this study was to better understand the spatio-temporal dynamic of the flood and the causes that initiated the hazard. Within the Serres basin, the Strymon transboundary river outflows to Lake Kerkini, which regulates water flow downstream for irrigation purposes and flood protection. For this research, a dataset of Sentinel-1 SAR GRD images was collected and processed covering the period of October 2014-October 2015 to investigate the water level changes in Lake Kerkini. Based on SAR images, binary water/non-water products and multitemporal RGB amplitude images were generated and interpreted. Sentinel-1 products have proved to be an effective tool on flood hazard dynamic extension mapping and estimation of water extent bodies retained by small reservoirs. In agreement with hydro-meteorological data and the high-resolution DEM, it was conceived that the flood event occurred due to the water volume flowing from upstream in the reservoir and the large amount of water draining from the tributaries into nearby sub-basins. Moreover, inefficient water management of the overwhelming water flow through the dam could further strengthen the flood event. The proposed approach, which is entirely based on open access remotely sensed data and processing tools, could be implemented in the same area for past flood events to produce archive retrospective data, as well as in other similar reservoir-regulated river basins in terms of water management and flood risk management.

We report electronic Raman scattering measurements on Ba（Fei1-xCox）2As2（x = 0.065 and 0.2） single crystals with Raman shifts from 9 cm^-1 up to 600 cm^-1 in the symmetry of Blg with respect to 1 Fe unit *** the crystals are cooled down,the evident quasielastic peaks of Raman spectra occur only in the crystal with x = 0.065,which is due to the contribution of orbital ordering between xz and yz Fe 3d orbitals,as we reported in another ***,we analyze the Eg phonon at 128 cm^-1,which has the same function form of its Raman tensors as those of xz and yz Fe 3d orbitals in these two crystals *** their electronic continuums,no anomalies are found in the Eg phonons of these two samples,which simply follows the expressions corresponding to the anharmonic phonon decay into acoustic phonons with the same frequencies and opposite *** results indicate that the structural and magnetic phase transition might be completely suppressed by chemical doping and there is not any indication of coupling between charge nematicity and Eg phonon mode from our experimental results,which is consistent with the results in our previous work.

Existing implementations of dynamic memory allocators(DMA) employ a large spectrum of policies and techniques. The formal specifications of these techniques are quite complicated in isolation and very complex when combined. Therefore, the formal reasoning on a specific DMA implementation is difficult for automatic tools and mostly single-use. This paper proposes a solution to this problem by providing formal models for a full class of DMA, the class using various kinds of lists to manage the memory blocks controlled by the DMA. To obtain reusable formal models and tractable formal reasoning, we organise these models in a hierarchy ranked by refinement relations. We prove the soundness of models and the refinement relations using the modeling framework Event-B and the theorem prover Rodin. We demonstrate that our hierarchy is a basis for an algorithm theory for list based DMA: it abstracts various existing implementations of DMA and leads to new DMA implementations. The applications of this formalisation include model-based code generation, testing, and static analysis.

Advanced cholangiocarcinoma is associated with poor prognostic survival and has limited therapeutic options available at present. The importance of angiogenesis and expression of pro-angiogenic factors in intrahepatic forms of cholangiocarcinoma suggest that therapies targeting angiogenesis might be useful for the treatment of this disease. Here we report three cases of patients with advanced intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma progressive after standard chemotherapy and treated with sunitinib 50 mg/d in 6-wk cycles of 4 wk on treatment followed by 2 wk off treatment(Schedule 4/2). In all three patients, sunitinib treatment was associated with a sustained disease control superior to 4 mo, patients achieving either a partial response or stable disease. A reduction in tumor size and density was observed in all cases, suggesting tumor necrosis as a result of sunitinib treatment in these patients. In addition, sunitinib was generally well tolerated and the occurrence of side effects was managed with standard medical interventions, as required. Our results suggest that sunitinib therapy maybe associated with favorable outcomes and tolerability in patients with advanced cholangiocarcinoma. Those observations contributed to launch a prospective phase Ⅱ multicenter trial investigating sunitinib in advanced intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(SUN-CK study; NCT01718327).

We report the discovery of a peculiar X-ray transient,EP240408a,by Einstein Probe （EP） and follow-up studies made with EP,Swift,NICER,GROND,ATCA and other ground-based multiwavelength *** new transient was first detected with Wide-field X-ray Telescope （WXT） on board EP on April 8th,2024,manifested in an intense yet brief X-ray flare lasting for *** flare reached a peak flux of 3.9×10-9erg cm-2s-1in 0.5-4 ke V,～300 times brighter than the underlying X-ray emission detected throughout the *** and more precise follow-up observations by EP/FXT,Swift and NICER confirmed the finding of this new *** X-ray spectrum is non-thermal in 0.5-10 ke V,with a power-law photon index varying *** X-ray light curve shows a plateau lasting for ～4 d,followed by a steep decay till becoming undetectable ～10 d after the initial *** on its temporal property and constraints from previous EP observations,an unusual timescale in the range of 7-23 d is found for EP240408a,which is intermediate between the commonly found fast and long-term *** counterparts have been found in optical and near-infrared,with the earliest observation at 17 h after the initial X-ray detection,suggestive of intrinsically weak emission in these *** demonstrate that the remarkable properties of EP240408a are inconsistent with any of the transient types known so far,by comparison with,in particular,jetted tidal disruption events,gamma-ray bursts,X-ray binaries and fast blue optical *** nature of EP240408a thus remains an *** suggest that EP240408a may represent a new type of transients with intermediate timescales of the order of～10 *** detection and follow-ups of more of such objects are essential for revealing their origin.

Structural elucidation (automatic determination of the structure of amolecule from its spectra) is frequently hampered by combinatorial explosion when trying to assemblethe identified substructures. We devised a new method which can avoid this pitfall by a systematicexamination of allowed ^(13)C chemical shifts ranges for all substructures chemically possible andcombined with a progressive pruning thanks to neighbouring relationships appearing from 2D NMR. Thismethod is explained by a detailed example.

When Tony Blair and New Labour came to office in Britain late in the 20th century,John Atkinson Hobson( 1858-1940) was rediscovered and republished. In spite of his prolific work( over 50 books),he had sunk into oblivion. Yet John Maynard Keynes paid tribute to him( T he General T heory of Employment,Interest and Money,1936) and recognized his debt to this"heretic"of economics. Hobson's contribution to the history of economic thought is a major one,thanks to his stimulating analysis of under-consumption. His book Imperialism,A Study( 1902) was Lenin's bedside reading. But Hobson was no socialist: he w as a"N ew Liberal",belonging to a group of theoreticians who thought that classical liberalism had to be changed radically if it was to have any future.

Impact of ribavirin dose on retreatment of chronic hepatitis C patients

AIM: To study the efficacy and factors associated with a sustained virological response (SVR) in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) relapsing patients. METHODS: Out of 1228 CHC patients treated with pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) and ribavirin (RBV), 165 (13%) had a relapse. Among these, 62 patients were retreated with PEG-IFN-2a or-2b and RBV. Clinical, biological, virological and histological data were collected. Initial doses and treatment modifications were recorded. The efficacy of retreatment and predictive factors for SVR were analyzed. RESULTS: An SVR was achieved in 42% of patients. SVR was higher in young ( 15.2 mg/kg per day (70% vs 35%, P = 0.04). In logistic regression, predictors of a response were age (P = 0.018), genotype (P = 0.048) and initial RBV dose/body weight (P = 0.022). None of the patients without a complete early virological response achieved an SVR (negative predictive value = 100%). CONCLUSION: Retreatment with PEG-IFN/RBV is effective in genotype 2 or 3 relapsers, especially in young patients. A high dose of RBV seems to be important for the retreatment response.

Quantitative structure property relationship (QSPR) method is used to study the correlation models between the structures of a set of diverse organic compounds and their log P . Molecular descriptors calculated from structure alone are used to describe the molecular structures. A subset of the calculated descriptors, selected using forward stepwise regression, is used in the QSPR models development. Multiple linear regression (MLR) and radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) are utilized to construct the linear and non linear correlation model, respectively. The optimal QSPR model developed is based on a 7 17 1 RBFNNs architecture using seven calculated molecular descriptors. The root mean square errors in predictions for the training, predicting and overall data sets are 0.284, 0.327 and 0.291 log P units, respectively.
