A small scale field experiment (SSFE) was performed on vertical breakwaters in the surf zone. The following are some of the findings. Wind seas may yield breaking wave pressure notwithstanding some large deepwater wave steepness, and small elevation of the wall above the mean water level. Caisson breakwaters can withstand some exceptionally high impulsive force peaks (even twice the weight in still water);whereas, with the same sea state and weight, a breakwater composed of layers of solid concrete blocks is destroyed.

Under an appropriate oscillating behavior either at zero or at infinity of the nonlinear data, the existence of a sequence of weak solutions for parametric quasilinear systems of the gradient-type on the Sierpinski gasket is proved. Moreover, by adopting the same hypotheses on the potential and in presence of suitable small perturbations, the same conclusion is achieved. The approach is based on variational methods and on certain analytic and geometrical properties of the Sierpinski fractal as, for instance, a compact embedding result due to Fukushima and Shima.

The fungal diversity in harvested apples from organic or conventional management practices was analyzed in different fruit locations(stem end,calyx end,peel,and wounded flesh)shortly after fruit purchase(T1)and after 2 weeks of storage(T5).A total of 5,760,162 high-quality fungal sequences were recovered and assigned to 8,504 Operational Taxonomic *** of the phylum Ascomycota were dominant in all samples and accounted for 91.6%of the total number of detected *** was followed by Basidiomycota(8%),Chytridiomycota(0.1%),and unidentified fungi(0.3%).Alpha and beta diversity analyses revealed the presence of significantly different fungal populations in the investigated fruit *** detected fungi,the genus Penicillium prevailed in the peel and in the wounded flesh while Alternaria *** in the calyx and stem end samples that included apple core *** taxonomic units that appear to be closely related to pathogenic fungi associated with secondary human infections were present in peel and ***,significantly different populations were revealed in organic and conventional apples and this result was consistent in all investigated fruit parts(calyx end,peel,stem end,and wounded flesh).Several unique taxa were exclusively detected in organic apples suggesting that management practices may have been a contributing factor in determining the taxa *** contrast,little differences were revealed in the two assessment times(T1 and T5).Results of the present study represent an advancement of the current knowledge on the fungal microbiota in collected fruit tissues of apple.

本文研究了性质不确定的外黏弹性阻尼器控制结构的抗震性能.耗能器件的行为由分数阶本构律描述,其中分数阶导数阶和阻尼系数都被建模为具有指定下界和上界的区间变量.地震动加速度是一个零均值平稳高斯随机过程.在这些假设下,被控结构的运动由一组区间分数阶微分方程控制.所有响应量均由区间零均值平稳高斯随机过程描述,其功率谱密度函数依赖于黏弹性器件的区间参数,在频域上完全表征.通过将经典的首通道问题扩展到区间框架进行可靠性分析.用一种有效的近似方法计算了区间值可靠度函数的边界.本文给出了基于文献中实验结果定义的间隔特性的黏弹性器件的实例研究.

The effects of the quantum well(QW)width,carrier density,and aluminium(Al)concentration in the barrier layers on the optical characteristics of a gallium nitride(GaN)-based QW laser diode are investigated by means of a careful modelling analysis in a wide range of *** device’s optical gain is calculated by using two different band energy *** first is based on the simple band-to-band model that accounts for carrier transitions between the first levels of the conduction band and valence band,whereas the second assumes the perturbation theory(k.p model)for considering the valence intersubband transitions and the relative absorption losses in the *** results reveal that the optical gain increases with increasing the n-type doping density as well as the Al molar fraction of the AlxGa1–xN layers,which originate the GaN compressivestrained *** particular,a significant optical gain on the order of 5000 cm^-1 is calculated for a QW width of 40A at room *** addition,the laser threshold current density is of few tens of A/cm^2 at low temperatures.

Twenty years after the last archaeological researches and surveys, a new investigation has been carried out on the basement in the church of Santa Maria in Via Lata in Rome. The study has employed three-dimensional surveys with laser scanning methodology and has focused both on archaeological and architectural issues. Indeed, the present layout of the basement derives from a XVII century remodelling of early Christian and medieval spaces planned by Pietro da Cortona. The architect gave a unique setting and composition to the underground spaces, different in shapes and building materials, thanks to the refinement of his baroque language. Though he worked in small spaces with static problems connected to the foundations and to the loads of the church rising above, and with poor lighting and extreme dampness, Pietro da Cortona put skilfully together “modern” elements with ancient or historical pre-existences. The study focuses on Berrettini’s design process through a three-dimensional analysis with CAD systems, starting from the new XVII century fa?ade and from the articulated distribution of routes that led to the intimate underground interiors. Metrical processing gave the possibility to improve the knowledge about room geometry and to confirm the interpretations put forward by major scholars such as Krautheimer and Cavazzi.

The solar power conversion efficiency of a gallium indium phosphide(GaInP)/silicon(Si)tandem solar cell has been investigated by means of a physical device simulator considering both mechanically stacked and monolithic *** particular,to interconnect the bottom and top sub-cells of the monolithic tandem,a gallium arsenide(GaAs)-based tunnel-junction,***(n+)/GaAs(p+),which assures a low electrical resistance and an optically low-loss connection,has been *** J–V characteristics of the single junction cells,monolithic tandem,and mechanically stacked structure have been calculated extracting the main photovoltaic *** analysis of the tunnel-junction behaviour has been also *** mechanically stacked cell achieves an efficiency of 24.27%whereas the monolithic tandem reaches an efficiency of 31.11%under AM1.5 spectral *** quantum efficiency simulations have evaluated the useful wavelength *** results and discussion could be helpful in designing high efficiency monolithic multijunction GaInP/Si solar cells involving a thin GaAs(n+)/GaAs(p+)tunnel junction.

Genetic variation in eggplant for Nitrogen Use Efficiency under contrasting NO3^- supply

Eggplant(Solanum melongena L.) yield is highly sensitive to N fertilization, the excessive use of which is responsible for environmental and human health *** N input together with the selection of improved Nitrogen-Use-Efficiency(NUE) genotypes, more able to uptake, utilize, and remobilize N available in soils, can be challenging to maintain high crop yields in a sustainable agriculture. The aim of this study was to explore the natural variation among eggplant accessions from different origins, in response to Low(LN) and High(HN)Nitrate(NO3^-) supply, to identify NUE-contrasting genotypes and their NUE-related traits, in hydroponic and greenhouse pot experiments. Two eggplants, AM222 and AM22, were identified as N-use efficient and inefficient,respectively, in hydroponic, and these results were confirmed in a pot experiment, when crop yield was also evaluated. Overall, our results indicated the key role of Nutilization component(NUt E) to confer high NUE. The remobilization of N from leaves to fruits may be a strategy to enhance NUt E, suggesting glutamate synthase as a key enzyme. Further, omics technologies will be used for focusing on C-N metabolism interacting networks. The availability of RILs from two other selected NUE-contrasting genotypes will allow us to detect major genes/quantitative trait loci related to NUE.

The low resilience of ecosystems imposes a sustainable management of natural resources through more rational uses, land protection, energy saving and low carbon production technologies. Agriculture has a great responsibility in managing these resources that are the principal inputs of its processes. Production systems must pay attention, at the same time, to economic viability and environmental protection. Since decades, the international scientific community is facing the great challenge of assessing the sustainability of agricultural engineering techniques, in order to help both private and public decision making, but also to meet consumer’s requirements for high quality and low impact products. To achieve that, widely accepted assessment instruments, whose results have to be clear and understandable to a broad public, and that are necessary. In this direction, Life Cycle Thinking (LCT) is gaining consensus as conceptual model, considering goods and services production and consumption all along the whole life cycle, from planning to disposal. Its methodological frame- work, the Life Cycle Management (LCM), offers many standardised tools to assess impacts of products and processes: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), to evaluate environmental impacts and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) for economic ones. Among many impacts categories LCA also allows to identify the carbon footprint, that can be quantified in terms of Global Warming Potential (GWP). This research has analyzed and compared different scenarios of wine grapes production in Cirò, an important viticultural area located in calabria region (Southern Italy). LCA and LCC methodologies have been useful to assess them from an environmental and economic standpoint. Results have allowed the authors to rank training and farming systems performances.
