The plant circadian clock regulates the rhythms of plant *** herbivore-induced plant volatiles(HIPVs)fluctuate,diurnally,but the role of the circadian clock in the emission of HIPVs and their ecological consequences remains largely ***,we show that the timing of herbivore attack can alter the outcome of tri-trophic interactions,and this is mediated by the circadian clock,under both field and glasshouse *** most HIPV emissions did not have a circadian rhythm,the circadian clock modulated HIPV emissions in a time-dependent *** mediate tri-trophic interactions,and the circadian clock may affect these interactions by modulating HIPV emission in nature.

Pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma(PACC) is a rare cancer. When the tumor is metastatic, few therapeutic options are available. Precision medicine using next-generation sequencing is defined by the administration of drugs based on the tumor genetic mutations. The usage of precision medicine for finding new therapeutic options for rare cancers is an emerging field. We have reported here the case of a patient bearing a multitreated metastatic PACC. This patient underwent somatic and constitutional exome analyses. The analyses revealed in the liver metastasis an amplification of the EGFR gene. Accordingly, the patient was treated with off-label usage of panitumumab. We observed rapid response with necrosis of the liver metastasis, while no efficacy was observed in the primary tumor. An exome analysis of the primary tumor revealed amplification of HER2 and MET with EGFR amplification. Such amplifications are known as a resistance mechanism to anti EGFR therapy. Our results suggest that exome analysis may be helpful to highlight targets in rare cancers, such as PACC. EGFR amplification in this pathology should be determined and could be used as a biomarker to propose anti EGFR therapy.

Background: Primary hyperhidrosis of the upper limbs is characterized by over activity of the eccrine sweat glands, primarily occurring on palmar, plantar and axillary regions. It is distressing and often socially disabling condition. Conservative treatment is usually not effective in controlling the disease mainly due to adverse effect of therapies. Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy is considered as the treatment of choice, causing minimal morbidity and high success rates and patient satisfaction. Objective: The study aims to evaluate the long-term outcomes of single port bilateralthoracoscopic dorsal sympathectomyin treatment of primary hyperhidrosis of the palm and axilla. Methods: In this prospective study, performed primarily by a single surgeon, between August 1st 2010, and August 1st 2012, we performed 200 thoracoscopies on 100 patients with signs and symptoms of primary palmar and axillary hyperhidrosis in different age groups and in both genders, and all were studied and analyzed following treatment by single-port bilateral thoracoscopic dorsal sympathectomy in Sulaimani teaching hospital. Results: Total of 99 patients were satisfied with the outcome of post-surgery with a follow-up in the mean of 27 months and only one patient was reported no change in symptoms postoperatively. Complications reported in 6 patients inform of compensatory sweating (n = 2), Gestatory sweating (n = 1), Pneumothorax (n = 1), Intraoperative minor bleeding (n = 1) and only 1% failure rate was reported. No mortality was reported. Conclusions: Single port bilateral thoracoscopic thoracic sympathectomy is a very effective method in the management of primary hyperhidrosis. Single port provides less postoperative pain, safety, short operative time, and quick method for the treatment of primary hyperhidrosis in comparison to two or three ports approaches.

Particulate matter in ambient air constitutes a complex mixture of fine and ultrafine particles composed of various chemical compounds including metals, ions, and organics. A multidisciplinary approach was developed by studying physico-chemical characteristics and mechanisms involved in the toxicity of particulate atmospheric pollution. PM0.3-2.s and PM2.5 including ultrafine particles were sampled in Dunkerque, a French industrialized seaside city. PM samples were characterized from a chemical and toxicological point of view. Physico-chemical characterization evidenced that PM2.5 comes from several sources： natural ones, such as soil resuspension and marine sea-salt emissions, as well as anthropogenic ones, such as shipping traffic, road traffic, and industrial activities. Human BEAS-2B tung cells were exposed to PM0.3-2.5, or to the Extractable Organic Matter （EOM） of PM0.3-2.5 and PM2.s. These exposures induced several mechanisms of action implied in the genotoxicity, such as oxidative DNA adducts and DNA Damage Response. The toxicity of PM-EOM was higher for the sample including the ultrafine fraction （PM2.5） containing also higher concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. These results evidenced the major role of organic compounds in the toxicity of PM.

Pathogen identification for infectious disease diagnosis is crucial and can be achieved through direct isolation of microbes or indirect detection based on the host immune system. Clinical metagenomic next-generation sequencing(mNGS) is an emerging technology that comprehensively analyzes genetic material(DNA and RNA) from both microbes and the host. It does not rely on prior knowledge of a pathogen's genome. This article reviews the clinical utility of mNGS in diagnosing infectious diseases and current technical difficulties.

Leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava (IVC) is a rare soft tissue tumor, mesenchymal in origin that arises from smooth muscles of tunica media;it accounts for about 0.5% of all soft tissue sarcomas, and it is the commonest vascular leiomyosarcoma. The tumor progression is slow, and it is asymptomatic until advanced stage in which involvement of surrounding structures even when the symptoms present are nonspecific. Presentation of Case: A 60 years old lady presented with upper abdominal pain for 3 months duration. Past surgical history was significant for Hysterectomy 15 years ago. On examination: soft abdomen, palpable non pulsating right hypochondrial mass. Ultrasound of the abdomen showed tumor of the head of pancreas. CT scan showed large retroperitoneal tumor extending from the head of pancreas to IVC. Trans abdominal CT guided FNAC showed retroperitoneal sarcoma while Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was proved to be Leiomyosarcoma of the IVC. Discussion: Leiomyosarcoma of inferior vena cava (IVC) is a rare soft tissue tumor, mesenchymal in origin that arises from smooth muscles of tunica media;it accounts for about 0.5% of all soft tissue sarcomas, and it is the commonest vascular leiomyosarcoma. The type of surgical management is a matter of debate and includes resection alone, primary repair/cavoplasty, or replacement with a graft. Reconstruction of the IVC is not always required especially in chronic occlusions. Conclusion: Despite all the advanced modalities, surgery remains the most effective method for treatment of Leiomyosarcoma.

Effects of Effluent from a Dumpsite on the Physicochemical Properties of River Achichum in Bamendakwe, Northwest Cameroon

This study was aimed to assess the effects of effluent from a dumpsite on the physicochemical properties of river Achichum in Bamendakwe in the Bamenda I municipality, Northwest Region of Cameroon. The quality of water used for domestic purposes by the population of this area is mostly appreciated through its organoleptic assessment while no attention is paid to the physicochemical and microbiological properties. Samples (upstream, effluent, and downstream) were collected in the months of September 2022 and February 2023 and examined for organoleptic, physicochemical and bacteriological characteristics using standard methods. The river was contaminated to different extents by nitrates (28.56 - 149.91 mg/L), sulphates (246.89 - 725.42 mg/L) and heavy metals (0.01 - 0.04 mg/L for lead and 0.98 - 2.15 mg/L for aluminum). This contamination could be due to an inflow of the untreated effluent into the river. The river contained a high pollution level of lead and aluminum. Bacteriological investigations revealed that all the analyzed samples from the river contained indicators of faecal pollution such as Enterobacteria spp., E. coli , Streptococcus spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Staphylococcus spp. and Vibrio spp. Consequently, its utilization exposes consumers to health risks. Thus, water from the river should be treated prior to consumption.
