We report the systematic survey of the binding free energies at the interface between a carbohydrate binding module(CBM)of Cel7A and the celluloseⅢ_(1)crystal model using grid docking searches and molecular dynamics *** two hydrophobic crystal surfaces were involved in the distinct energy minima of the binding free *** complex models,each with the CBM at the minimum energy position,stably formed in the solution *** binding free energies of the celluloseⅢ_(1)complex models,based on both static and dynamics states,were comparable to those of the native cellulose complex ***,the celluloseⅢ_(1)crystal had a larger binding surface,which is compatible with the observed high enzymatic activity of Cel7A for the celluloseⅢ_(1)substrate.

Background:Monocyte-derived fibrocytes play an important role in the progression of fibrosis in the skin,lungs,heart and ***,the contribution of fibrocytes to liver fibrosis is *** aim of this study was to investigate whether fibrocytes contributed to fibrosis progression in the livers of carbon tetrachloride(CCl 4)-treated ***:C57BL/6J mice were divided into 4 groups:normal control group,CCl 4-treated group,CCl 4+control liposome-treated group,and CCl 4+clodronate liposome-treated *** the elimination of systemic monocyte and monocyte-derived fibrocyte,one group was treated with clodronate liposome,and another group with control liposome as a *** 4 weeks of treatment,hepatic mononuclear cells were subjected to immunofluorescent(IF)staining and fluorescence-activated cell sorter(FACS)analysis to detect *** of collagen-positive Sirius red stained area and collagen-I mRNA expression in the liver were performed to evaluate the degree of liver fibrosis ***:In the liver of the CCl 4-treated and CCl 4+control liposome-treated groups,the number of fibrocytes,the area positive for Sirius red staining and collagen-I mRNA expression significantly increased compared with those in the normal control *** the liver of the CCl 4+clodronate liposome-treated group,few fibrocytes was observed as in the normal control group,but Sirius red staining positive area and collagen-I mRNA expression were increased and equivalent to the CCl 4-treated and CCl 4+control liposome-treated ***:Monocyte-derived fibrocytes play a minimal role in CCl 4-induced liver *** other than fibrocytes such as hepatic stellate cells play a central role in liver fibrosis.

The space-charge distributions of electric double-layer capacitors （EDLCs）, which are energy storage devices, were examined with the pulsed electroacoustic （PEA） method. It was found that the experimental results could be influenced by the reflection and penetration of sound waves when the space-charge dis- tributions of EDLCs were measured with the PEA method. This is because EDLCs have a five-layer structure consisting of three materials （aluminum, cellulose, and activated carbon）. We calculated the reflection wave components that influenced the charge density through the acoustic impedance and the relative permittivity of the materials. In this way, we found that the changes in the space-charge distributions of EDLCs and their charge characteristics corresponded closely. We determined that measuring the space- charge distributions with the PEA method was effective for evaluating the charge accumulation of EDLCs. In this study, a polarized electrode was prepared for use in EDLCs. The ratio of the surface area to the average pore diameter of the polarized electrode was measured with the nitrogen adsorption method at 77 K. The relationship between the ratio of the surface area to the average pore size and the space-charge distributions of EDLCs is also discussed in this paper.

A new extractant, [N,N-di（2-ethylhexyl）aminolmethylphenylphosphinic acid （DEAPP）, was synthesized to de- velop the mutual separation techniques of In（Ⅲ）, Ga（Ⅲ） and Zn（Ⅱ）. The extraction selectivity for In（Ⅲ）, Ga（Ⅲ） and Zn（Ⅱ） with DEAPP was higher than that of the commercial phosphorus acid extractants such as D2EHPA and PC-88A. The extraction selectivity for metal ions in 1 mob L 1 aqueous ammonium nitrate solution with DEAPP was in the following order： In（Ⅲ）〉 Ga（Ⅲ）〉 Zn（Ⅱ）. These selective extraction behaviors indicate that the amino moiety of DEAPP plays an important role in the mutual separation of ln（Ⅲ）, Ga（Ⅲ） and Zn（ll）. The extraction equilibria of In（Ⅲ）, Ga（Ⅲ） and Zn（Ⅱ） with DEAPP （ = HR） were expressed by the following reactions： In3＋＋ 2（HR）2 InR3（HR）＋ 3H＋, Ga3＋＋ 1.5（HR）2 ＋ N- = GaR2（HR）（NO3）＋ 2H＋, and Zn2＋ 4- 2（HR）2 ZnR2 （HR） 2 determined 4- 2H＋. The extraction equilibrium constants of In（Ⅲ）, Ga（Ⅲ） and Zn（Ⅱ） with DEAPP were to be Kex, M = 1.7 × 104 [*** 1], 4.17 [（***-1）s], and 1.55 × 10 2 [-], respectively.

The present study describes the complexation between curcumin(Cur) and a peptide mixture(Pep). Pep was prepared by enzymatic hydrolysis of casein and used as an excipient for poorly water-soluble Cur. An aqueous solution of Pep and an acetone solution of Cur were mixed and lyophilized to obtain a white-yellow powder of the peptide and Cur complex(CurPep). The water dispersibility of Cur was enhanced by the complexation with Pep. Pep was fractionated using ammonium sulfate precipitation and ultrafiltration to identify which peptides preferentially interact with Cur. Relatively hydrophobic peptides with high molecular weights(>5 k Da) were more effective in enhancing the water dispersibility of Cur than other fractions. Cur-Pep dispersed under acidic and neutral conditions, at which amphoteric Pep is positively or negatively charged. Cur-Pep exists as a hydrocolloid with particle size 160–330 nm in aqueous media.

Tracing sediment transport history using mineralogical fingerprinting in a river basin with dams utilizing sediment sluicing

Sediment causes a serious problem in relation to dam function. A cooperative sediment sluicing operation has been under way since 2017 to prevent sediment from accumulating in dams in the Mimi River,miyazaki, Japan. To achieve a smooth and stable operation, it is very important to determine the sediment source and a sediment transport system to maintain the dam’s function. In the current study, the source and transport of sediment from the Mimi River basin have been analyzed with X-ray diffraction(XRD) to reveal the peaks of mineral species. The sediment samples were collected in the Mimi River basin from the Tsukabaru Dam to the sea in an area including 4 dams and 5 tributaries. In addition, the minerals in samples collected in 2014, before the start of the sediment sluicing operation, and from 2018 to 2020, after the start of the operation, were analyzed. An evaluation of the similarity of the sediment at each sampling point based on the X-ray diffraction peaks of mineral species showed that sediment distributed upstream was transported downstream in the year when the sediment sluicing was *** result indicates that the sediment sluicing operation at dams ensured the continuity of the sediment distribution in the Mimi River basin. In addition, an investigation done in 2020 showed that sediment particles very similar to those of the upstream tributaries were deposited downstream because of extensive flooding caused by a large typhoon. The management of sediment transport has the greatest importance in a river basin where a dam is to be constructed. It is possible to trace the history of the sediment distribution and movement resulting from the operation of sediment sluicing by using sediment mineral analysis.

Unlocking the stable interface in aqueous zinc-ion battery with multifunctional xylose-based electrolyte additives

The growth of dendrites and the side reactions occurring at the Zn anode pose significant challenges to the commercialization of aqueous Zn-ion batteries（AZIBs）. These challenges arise from the inherent conflict between mass transfer and electrochemical kinetics. In this study, we propose the use of a multifunctional electrolyte additive based on the xylose（Xylo） molecule to address these issues by modulating the solvation structure and electrode/electrolyte interface, thereby stabilizing the Zn anode. The introduction of the additive alters the solvation structure, creating steric hindrance that impedes charge transfer and then reduces electrochemical kinetics. Furthermore, in-situ analyses demonstrate that the reconstructed electrode/electrolyte interface facilitates stable and rapid Zn2+ion migration and suppresses corrosion and hydrogen evolution reactions. As a result, symmetric cells incorporating the Xylo additive exhibit significantly enhanced reversibility during the Zn plating/stripping process, with an impressively long lifespan of up to 1986 h, compared to cells using pure ZnSO4electrolyte. When combined with a polyaniline cathode, the full cells demonstrate improved capacity and long-term cyclic stability. This work offers an effective direction for improving the stability of Zn anode via electrolyte design, as well as highperformance AZIBs.

Type 2 diabetes一associated with impaired insulin/insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) signaling (IIS)一is a risk factor for cognitive impairment and dementia including Alzheimer's disease (AD). The insulin receptor substrate (IRS) proteins are major components of IIS, which transmit upstream signals via the insulin receptor and/or IGF1 receptor to multiple intracellular signaling pathways, including AKT/protein kinase B and extracellular-signal-regulated kinase cascades. Of the four IRS proteins in mammals, IRS1 and IRS2 play key roles in regulating growth and survival, metabolism, and aging. Meanwhile, the roles of IRS1 and IRS2 in the central nervous system with respect to cognitive abilities remain to be clarified. In contrast to IRS2 in peripheral tissues, inactivation of neural IRS2 exerts beneficial effects, resulting in the reduction of amyloid p accumulation and premature mortality in AD mouse models. On the other hand, the increased phosphorylation of IRS 1 at several serine sites is observed in the brains from patients with AD and animal models of AD or cognitive impairment induced by type 2 diabetes. However, these serine sites are also activated in a mouse model of type 2 diabetes, in which the diabetes drug metformin improves memory impairment. Because IRS1 and IRS2 signaling pathways are regulated through complex mechanisms including positive and negative feedback loops, whether the elevated phosphorylation of IRS1 at specific serine sites found in AD brains is a primary response to cognitive dysfunction remains unknown. Here, we examine the associations between IRS 1 /1 RS2-mediated signaling in the central nervous system and cognitive decline.
