Testing the governance-performance relationship for the Tunisian banks: a GMM in system analysis

Rationale:This study aims to contribute to settling the lack of consensus regarding the determinants of bank performance,not only by considering bank governance,but also by including factors such as CEO compensation and risk management *** literature has included bank governance and considered only large banks in their *** exclusion of other factors such as small-and medium-size banks may render the findings of these studies limited in ***:The objective of this paper is to examine the impact of internal governance on bank ***:To achieve this goal,we used annual data of a sample of ten Tunisian commercial banks listed in the Tunisian Stock Exchange observed during the period 1998–*** use the Generalized Method of Moments(GMM)to estimate the parameters of our econometric ***:Our study finds that the correlation between the size of the board of directors,the state’s inclusion,and the presence of independent directors is positive and *** the other hand,we have found that CEO compensation,as well as foreign and institutional investors negatively affect the performance of the *** and implications:Tunisian banks are invited to broaden their size through appropriate restructuring,adopt new remuneration policies and define the optimal number of directors representing the state within the board of *** results suggest managerial implications that can be of great value to ensuring the success of Tunisian *** latter should favor a higher presence of independent directors to reduce the bank control ineffectiveness caused by having a significant number of foreign and institutional investors in the board of directors.

Background:The objective of this paper is ***,we test the most important factors that determine the level of non-interest income for Tunisian ***,we study the impact of non-interest income on banks’profitability measured by both return on assets(ROA)and return on equity(ROE).Finally,we investigate the relationship between non-interest income and the level of risk ***:To achieve this goal,we used annual data of 20 Tunisian banks during the period *** the empirical section we performed a Dynamic Panel Data ***:Empirical results indicate that the main determinants of non-interest income are:relative performance(RROA and RROE),bank size,loan specialization and new epayments channels,automatic teller machine(ATM)and credit *** also find that diversification increases bank performance for both ROA and ROE ***,non-interest income appears to be negatively and significantly correlated with the effect on the level of ***:Tunisian banks are invited to more diversify their activities and do not focus only on the traditional *** noninterest income seems to be associated with a higher level of profitability and a lower risk.

This study aims to investigate turbulent plasma flow using the lattice Boltzmann(LB)method.A double population model D2Q9-D2Q4 is employed to calculate the plasma velocity and temperature *** with the calculation process a conversion procedure is made between the LB and the physical unit systems,so that thermo-physical properties variation is fully accounted for and the convergence is checked in physical *** configuration domain and the boundary condition treatment are selected based on the most cited studies in order to illustrate a realistic *** jet morphology analysis gives credible results by comparison with commonly published *** was demonstrated also that accounting for the substrate as wall boundary condition modify greatly the flow and temperature structures with may affect absolutely the particles behavior during its in-flight in the hot gas.

Evaluating and selecting players to suit football clubs and decision-makers (coaches, managers, technical, and medical staff) is a difficult process from a managerial-financial and sporting perspective. Football is a highly competitive sport where sponsors and fans are attracted by success. The most successful players, based on their characteristics (criteria and sub-criteria), can influence the outcome of a football game at any given time. Consequently, the D-day of selection should employ a more appropriate approach to human resource management. To effectively address this issue, a detailed study and analysis of the available literature are needed to assist practitioners and professionals in making decisions about football player selection and hiring. Peer-reviewed journals were selected for collecting published papers between 2018 and 2023. A total of 66 relevant articles (journal articles, conference articles, book sections, and review articles) were selected for evaluation and analysis. The purpose of the study is to present a systematic literature review (SLR) on how to solve this problem and organize the published research papers that answer our four research questions.

In this paper,we investigate the photon correlations and the statistical properties of light produced by an optical cavity with an embedded quantum well interacting with squeezed *** show that the squeezed source substantially improves the intensity of the emitted light and generates a narrowing and a duplication of the spectrum *** a strong dependence on frequency detuning,the cavity produces considerably squeezed radiation,and perfect squeezing is predicted for weak light–matter ***,the system under consideration presents a bunching effect of the transmitted radiation resulting from weak pumping of the coherent *** results obtained may have potential applications in the fields of very accurate measurement and quantum computing.

In this paper, the authors study the association between firms＇ specific characteristics and performances for a sample of 320 American firms using a governance efficiency index, calculated by the stochastic frontier analysis. The use of a latent class in the specification of the model, allowed detecting two groups of firms according to their specific characteristics： the firm size, the leverage, the dividend yield, and the return on equity （ROE）. The results of affectation equation show that the probability to be in the second group （the most efficient） is more important when the firm size, the dividend yield, and the ROE are high, while a high leverage level decreases the chance to be in the first group （the less efficient）.

The growth of dendrites and the side reactions occurring at the Zn anode pose significant challenges to the commercialization of aqueous Zn-ion batteries（AZIBs）. These challenges arise from the inherent conflict between mass transfer and electrochemical kinetics. In this study, we propose the use of a multifunctional electrolyte additive based on the xylose（Xylo） molecule to address these issues by modulating the solvation structure and electrode/electrolyte interface, thereby stabilizing the Zn anode. The introduction of the additive alters the solvation structure, creating steric hindrance that impedes charge transfer and then reduces electrochemical kinetics. Furthermore, in-situ analyses demonstrate that the reconstructed electrode/electrolyte interface facilitates stable and rapid Zn2+ion migration and suppresses corrosion and hydrogen evolution reactions. As a result, symmetric cells incorporating the Xylo additive exhibit significantly enhanced reversibility during the Zn plating/stripping process, with an impressively long lifespan of up to 1986 h, compared to cells using pure ZnSO4electrolyte. When combined with a polyaniline cathode, the full cells demonstrate improved capacity and long-term cyclic stability. This work offers an effective direction for improving the stability of Zn anode via electrolyte design, as well as highperformance AZIBs.

Synergistic effect of bonding heterogeneity and phonon localization in introducing excellent thermoelectric properties in layered heteroanionic NdZnSbO material

Layered rare-earth metal oxides, harnessing the dual properties of oxides and two-dimensional layered materials, exhibit remarkable thermal stability and quantum confinement effects. Therefore, this work adopts the first-principles calculation combined with the Boltzmann transport theory to predict the thermoelectric properties of NdZnSbO compound. The coexistence of weak interlayer van der Waals interactions, robust intralayer ionic bonding, and partial covalent bonding leads to remarkable bonding heterogeneity, which engenders pronounced phonon scattering and imposes constraints on thermal transport along the out-of-plane direction. The weakened chemical bonds induced by the antibonding states, together with the rattling-like behavior of the Zn atom, culminate in the profound anharmonicity in the layered NdZnSbO compound. The weakening bond and heavy element contribute to the softness of phonon modes, which significantly diminishes the phonon group velocity. The redistribution-dominated four-phonon scattering process spans a large optical gap, which effectively reduces the lattice thermal conductivity. The NdZnSbO compound exhibits direct semiconductor characteristic with a bandgap of 0.73 e V by adopting the Heyd-Scuseria-Ernzerhof(HSE06) functional in combination with spin–orbit coupling(SOC) effect. The multi-valley feature of NdZnSbO compound augur favorably for band degeneracy, thus amplifying the power factor. Consequently, an optimal figure-of-merit(ZT) of 3.40 at 900 K is achieved for the n-type NdZnSbO compound. The present study delves deeply insights into the origins for the low thermal conductivity of NdZnSbO compound and proposes an optimization scheme to enhance overall thermoelectric performance.
