The purpose of this study is to produce an analysis of the urban expansion in the case of a mountain resort in the Romanian Carpathians through the integration of different cartographic and ancillary material in the remote sensing imagery *** spatial pattern analysis of the changes underwent by the urban landscape was based on multi-temporal information sources,covering 28 years,which highlighted the major turning points in landscape evolution,meaning industrial development under the communist production planning and residential expansion in recent *** fully exploit the combination of satellite image processing in IDRISI,the manual image classification and database interrogation in ArcGis,we used a uniform grid,representing a set of vector data for each year available from the Landsat image *** image comparison was completed by using appropriate quantitative *** conclusion the urban landscape evolution was linked to the socio-economic *** a historic scale the main phenomenon identified is the concentration of mass tourism facilities,located in contiguity to a protected area,a situation reflected in the constant fragmentation of surfaces covered with vegetation at the urban *** the digital earth science,the interplay between mountain ecosystems and human activities encompasses a key role in the management of viable mountain landscapes.

The uptake of metals in roots and their transfer to rhizomes and above-ground plant parts（stems, leaves） of cattails（Typha latifolia L.） were studied in leachates from a domestic landfill site（Etueffont, France） and treated in a natural lagooning system. Plant parts and corresponding water and sediment samples were taken at the inflow and outflow points of the four ponds at the beginning and at the end of the growing season. Concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni and Zn in the different compartments were estimated and their removal efficiency assessed, reaching more than 90% for Fe, Mn and Ni in spring and fall as well in the water compartment. The above-and below-ground cattail biomass varied from 0.21 to 0.85, and 0.34 to 1.24 kg dry weight/m^2, respectively, the highest values being recorded in the fourth pond in spring 2011. The root system was the first site of accumulation before the rhizome, stem and leaves. The highest metal concentration was observed in roots from cattails growing at the inflow of the system＇s first pond. The trend in the average trace element concentrations in the cattail plant organs can generally be expressed as： Fe 〉 Mn 〉 As 〉 Zn 〉 Cr 〉 Cu 〉 Ni 〉 Cd for both spring and fall. While T. latifolia removes trace elements efficiently from landfill leachates, attention should also be paid to the negative effects of these elements on plant growth.

A preliminary application of the digital image correlation（ DIC） is presented aiming to detect and analyze crack networks which are induced by stresses arising during curing and drying（ CD） of Mg O containing refractory castable slabs. Surface images of castable samples placed in a specially designed climatic chamber were recorded over the CD stages with a digital camera and processed by the DIC technique to measure the displacement fields. Post-processing DIC results were carried out to estimate the length,orientation and opening of cracks in the networks. The methodology is highlighted and the first experimental results are shown pointing out its future potential to better understand the effect of the physical aspects（ particle size,chemical analysis,temperature,etc.） and the structural ones（ slab shape and size） on processing and performance of advanced refractory castables.

Nitro MAC（French acronym for continuous atmospheric measurements of nitrogenous compounds） is an instrument which has been developed for the semi-continuous measurement of atmospheric nitrous acid（HONO）. This instrument relies on wet chemical sampling and detection using high performance liquid chromatography（HPLC）-visible absorption at540 nm. Sampling proceeds by dissolution of gaseous HONO in a phosphate buffer solution followed by derivatization with sulfanilamide/N-（1-naphthyl）-ethylenediamine. The performance of this instrument was found to be as follows： a detection limit of around 3 ppt with measurement uncertainty of 10% over an analysis time of 10 min. Intercomparison was made between the instrument and a long-path absorption photometer（LOPAP） during two experiments in different environments. First, air was sampled in a smog chamber with concentrations up to 18 ppb of nitrous acid. Nitro MAC and LOPAP measurements showed very good agreement. Then, in a second experiment, ambient air with HONO concentrations below250 ppt was sampled. While Nitro MAC showed its capability of measuring HONO in moderate and highly polluted environments, the intercomparison results in ambient air highlighted that corrections must be made for minor interferences when low concentrations are measured.
