Objective: The present study explored the effects of the combined herbal therapy consisting of curcumin(CUR) and Fructus Ligustri Lucidi(FLL) on aspects of bone ***: Prior to analyzing the ability of this novel combined herbal therapy to promote aspects of bone regeneration, its cytotoxicity was determined using MC3 T3-E1 cells(pre-osteoblast model). Cell proliferation was evaluated using phase-contrast microscopy and cell differentiation was estimated using alkaline phosphatase activity. The effect of the combined herbal therapy(CUR + FLL) was also assessed in terms of mineralization in the extracellular matrix(ECM) of cultured cells. Further, to explore the molecular mechanisms of bone formation, time-dependent expression of bone-regulating protein biomarkers was also ***: Combined herbal therapy(CUR + FLL) significantly upregulated the viability, proliferation and differentiation of MC3 T3-E1 cells compared to the monotherapy of CUR or FLL. The magnitude of ECM mineralization(calcium deposition) was also higher in MC3 T3-E1 cells treated with combined *** time-dependent expression of bone-forming protein biomarkers revealed that the tendency of expression of these bone-regulating proteins was remarkably higher in cells treated with combined ***: The co-administration of CUR and FLL had superior promotion of elements of bone regeneration in cultured cells, thus could be a promising alternative herbal therapy for the management of bone erosive disorders such as osteoporosis.

Zika virus is a mosquito-borne flavivirus that represents a public health emergency at the ongoing ***,this rare virus was limited to sporadic cases in Africa and Asia until its emergence in Brazil,South America in 2015,where it rapidly spread throughout the ***,a high number of cases were reported in Singapore and other Southeast Asia countries.A combination of factors explains the current Zika virus outbreak although it is highly likely that the changes in the climate and high frequency of travelling contribute to the spread of Aedes vector carrying the Zika virus mainly to the tropical climate countries such as the Southeast *** Zika virus is known to cause mild clinical symptoms similar to those of dengue and chikungunya and transmitted by different species of Aedes ***,neurological complications such as Guillain-Barrésyndrome in adults,and congenital anomalies,including microcephaly in babies born to infected mothers,raised a serious ***,there is no specific antiviral treatment or vaccine available for Zika virus ***,international public health response is primarily focused on preventing infection,particularly in pregnant women,and on providing up-to-date recommendations to reduce the risk of non-vector transmission of Zika virus.

Verification of Depth Adjustment Factor in Eurocode 5 for Tropical Hardwood Timbers

The depth adjustment factor for bending strength stated in Eurocode 5(EC5)is only applicable to timbers having a characteristic density below 700 kg/m^(3).However,most Malaysian timbers are hardwood,some with a characteristic density reaching above 700 kg/m^(3).Therefore,the objective of this study was to examine whether the depth adjustment factor stipulated in EC5 is valid for Malaysian hardwood *** timber species were selected for this study,namely Kapur(Dryobalanops ***.),Kempas(Koompassia Maingay ex Benth.),Keruing(Dipterocarpus ***.),Light red meranti(Shorea *** ***.),Geronggang(Cratoxylum Blume)and Balau(Shorea *** ***.).The determination of bending strength and characteristic density was conducted according to BS EN 408:2010 and BS EN 384:2016,respectively.A graph for mean bending strength vs.(150/h)was plotted for each timber *** power function was selected to analyze the relationship between the two *** power of the regression equations varied depending on the characteristic density of the timber *** species with a characteristic density below 700 kg/m^(3),such as Kapur,Keruing,and Light red meranti,the power was between 0.16 to *** contrast,for species having a characteristic density above 700 kg/m^(3),namely Kempas and Balau,the power was higher at 0.23 and 0.24,*** was an exception to this *** values are close to the depth adjustment factor given in EC5,which is *** on the results,it can be suggested that the adjustment factor of 0.2 is also applicable to Malaysian hardwood timbers with a characteristic density above 700 kg/m^(3).

A simple and efficient approximate analytical technique is presented to obtain solutions to a class of two-point boundary value similarity problems in fluid mechanics. This technique is based on the decomposition method which yields a genera/analytic solution in the form of a convergent infinite series with easily computable terms. Comparative study is carried out to show the accuracy and effectiveness of the technique.

Comparison of virus-capsid mimicking biologic-shell based versus polymeric-shell nanoparticles for enhanced oral insulin delivery

Virus-capsid mimicking mucus-permeable nanoparticles are promising oral insulin carriers which surmount intestinal mucus ***,the impact of different viruscapsid mimicking structure remains *** this study,utilizing biotin grafted chitosan as the main skeleton,virus-mimicking nanoparticles endowed with biologicshell(streptavidin coverage)and polymeric-shell(hyaluronic acid/alginate coating)were designed with insulin as a model drug by self-assembly *** was demonstrated that biologic-shell mimicking nanoparticles exhibited a higher intestinal trans-mucus(>80%,10 min)and transmucosal penetration efficiency(1.6–2.2-fold improvement)than polymeric-shell *** mechanism studies revealed caveolae-mediated endocytosis was responsible for the absorption of biologic-shell mimicking nanoparticles whereas polymeric-shell mimicking nanoparticles were characterized by clathrin-mediated pathway with anticipated lysosomal insulin ***,in vivo hypoglycemic study indicated that the improved effect of regulating blood sugar levels was virus-capsid structure dependent out of which biologic-shell mimicking nanoparticles presented the best performance(5.1%).Although the findings of this study are encouraging,much more work is required to meet the standards of clinical *** together,we highlight the external structural dependence of virus-capsid mimicking nanoparticles on the mucopenetrating and uptake mechanism of enterocytes that in turn affecting their in vivo absorption,which should be pondered when engineering virus-mimicking nanoparticles for oral insulin delivery.

Effect of Mechanical Properties and Morphology of Sago Starch Filled UPR Composite

Native starches have many uses in food systems while modified starches have limitless use in food and non-food application. Starch composite based thermoplastic matrix had been investigated and well established. For our project, thermoset polymer as a matrix was incorporated with sago starch. In this work, sago starch was used as fillers onto UPR (UPR) matrix to induce degradability of composite. The polyester resin mixed with native starch were fabricated through hand lay-up and characterized using mechanical testing such as tensile, flexural, impact test and this is followed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Plasticizers were added to improve flexibility of composite. Starch/UPR system was surface treated with plasticizer and copolymer surfactant before fabrication. The individual effect of each additive and associated interactive effects at different starch loadings were investigated. Plasticizer and surfactant individually showed slight enhancement in composite starch/UPR strength. Tensile and flexural strength and modulus were found to change with the two additives employed namely plasticizer and copolymer. For impact strength, high impact properties were exhibited using both compatibilizer systems as compared to single compatibilizer system. The Scanning Electron Microscopy showed better dispersion of starch in 3D matrix system when plasticizer and copolymer surfactant was used and mixed together. Plasticizer and copolymer surfactant also demonstrated significant interactive effects on strength. Presence of both additives indicated that plasticizer and surfactant act synergistically by providing increased composite bonding that eventually generates a stronger composite as shown by increasing mechanical strength compared to individual use of additive system.

Optimization of aerodynamic efficiency for twist morphing MAV wing

Twist morphing （TM） is a practical control technique in micro air vehicle （MAV） flight. However, TM wing has a lower aerodynamic efficiency （CL/CD） compared to membrane and rigid wing. This is due to massive drag penalty created on TM wing, which had overwhelmed the succes- sive increase in its lift generation. Therefore, further CL/CDmax optimization on TM wing is needed to obtain the optimal condition for the morphing wing configuration. In this paper, two-way fluid- structure interaction （FSI） simulation and wind tunnel testing method are used to solve and study the basic wing aerodynamic performance over （non-optimal） TM, membrane and rigid wings. Then, a multifidelity data metamodel based design optimization （MBDO） process is adopted based on the Ansys-DesignXplorer frameworks. In the adaptive MBDO process, Kriging metamodel is used to construct the final multifidelity CL/CD responses by utilizing 23 multi-fidelity sample points from the FSI simulation and experimental data. The optimization results show that the optimal TM wing configuration is able to produce better CL/CDmax magnitude by at least 2% than the non-optimal TM wings. The flow structure formation reveals that low TV strength on the optimal TM wing induces low CD generation which in turn improves its overall CL/CDmax performance.

The Relationship Among Ethical Climate, Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment, and External Auditor＇s Turnover Intention

This study attempts to examine the relationship among ethical climate, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intention in the context of the Malaysian external auditor＇s work environment. The questionnaire is sent to a sample of external auditors from Malaysian Big Four （Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler （KPMG）, Ernst and Young, Deloitte KassimChan, and PricewaterhouseCoopers （PwC）） main offices. There are 167 useable responses. The regression results have provided evidence that ethical climate is directly, significantly, and positively associated with job satisfaction. In contrast, ethical climate appeared not to be directly related with external auditor＇s turnover intention. Both job satisfaction and organizational commitment were identified as significant predictors in explaining turnover intention, since they had a significant and negative effect on external auditor＇s turnover intention. This study also implied that job satisfaction had a significant effect on organizational commitment. Furthermore, the findings revealed that organizational commitment partially mediated the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention. The results extend the literature on external auditor＇s turnover intention and provide insights for human resource management in accurately assessing employee＇s turnover intention in order to improve retention and reduce actual turnover particularly in audit firms.
