Chitosan nanoparticles are exhalation prone and agglomerative to pulmonary *** nanoparticles with lactose microparticles(~5 μm) could mutually reduce their agglomeration through surface adsorption phenomenon. The chitosan nanoparticles of varying size, size distribution, zeta potential, crystallinity, shape and surface roughness were prepared by spray drying technique as a function of chitosan, surfactant and processing conditions. Lactose-polyethylene glycol 3000(PEG3000) microparticles were similarly prepared. The chitosan nanoparticles, physically blended with fine lactose-PEG3000 microparticles, exhibited a comparable inhalation performance with the commercial dry powder inhaler products(fine particle fraction between 20% and 30%). Cascade impactor analysis indicated that the aerosolization and inhalation performance of chitosan nanoparticles was promoted by their higher zeta potential and circularity, and larger size attributes of which led to reduced inter-nanoparticulate aggregation and favored nanoparticles interacting with lactose-PEG3000 micropaticles that aided their delivery into deep and peripheral lungs.

OBJECTIVE： This study investigated the effects of allylpyrocatechol （APC）, the major component in ethanolic extract of Piper betle, on key oxidative stress resistance enzymes important for the survival of Staphylococcus aureus, a major pathogen in the human host. METHODS： Effects of APC on expressions of genes encoding catalase （katA）, superoxide dismutases （SODs）, including soda and sodM, and alkyl hydroperoxide reductase （ahpC） in S. aureus were quantitated by RT-qPCR in reference to gyrA and 16S rRNA. Corresponding activities of the enzymes were also investigated. The Livak analysis was performed for verification of gene-fold expression data. Effects of APC on intracellular and extracellular reactive oxygen species （ROS） levels were determined using the nitroblue tetrazolium （NBT） reduction assay. RESULTS： APC-treated S. aureus cells had higher sodA and sodM transcripts at 1.5-fold and 0.7-fold expressions respectively with corresponding increase in total SOD activity of 12.24 U/mL compared to untreated cells, 10.85 U/mL （P〈0.05）. Expression of ahpC was highest in APC-treated cells with 5.5-fold increased expression compared to untreated cells （P〈0.05）. Correspondingly, ahpC activity was higher in APC-treated cells at 0.672 （A310nm） compared to untreated cells which was 0.394 （A310nm）. In contrast, katA expression was 1.48-fold and 0.33-fold lower respectively relative to gyrA and 16S rRNA. Further, APC-treated cells showed decreased catalase activity of 1.8 × 10^-4 （U/L or μmol/（min.L）） compared to untreated cells, which was 4.8 × 10^-4 U/L （P〈0.05）. Absorbance readings （A575nm） for the NBT reduction assay were 0.709 and 0.695 respectively for untreated and treated cells, which indicated the presence of ROS. APC-treated S. aureus cells had lower ROS levels both extracellularly and intracellularly, but larger amounts remained intracellularly compared to extracellular levels with absorbances of 0.457 and 0.137 respectively （P〈0.05）. This study is to examine the changes in Cl volatilizations and chemical forms in NaCl-loaded Victorian brown coal during gasification in steam at 800 ℃ using Cl K-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure(XANES) *** char samples were prepared in a novel one-stage fluidised-bed / fixed-bed quartz reactor at a fast heating *** samples were then collected and sealed in an argon-filled bag in order to minimise possible oxidation of char and Cl by air prior to analysis by ***-steam reactions were found to significantly affect the transformation of Cl,including the possible formation of chlorine-containing organic *** the other hand,volatile-char interactions during the gasification appeared to enhance the Cl retention and prevent the formation of organic chlorine compounds in chars.

Fear of crime varies considerably depending on its attitude towards environmental conditions. Sense of community and CPTED （crime prevention through environmental design） are believed to have an influence on fear of crime. This paper investigates the hypotheses of influences of CPTED on FOC （fear of crime） and SOC （sense of community）. A total of 171 respondents from the designated residential areas were involved in this study. The structural equation modeling technique was employed and the results indicate that CPTED has a direct influence on fear of crime and sense of community. However, no significant relationship was found between SOC and FOC.

An optical code generating device for security access system application is presented. The code generating device constructed using asymmetric hollow optical waveguide coupler design provides a unique series of output light intensities which are successively used as an optical code. The design of the waveguide is made using two major components which are asymmetric Y-junction splitter and a linear taper. Waveguiding is done using a hollow waveguide structure. Construction of higher level 1×N hollow waveguide coupler is done utilizing a basic 1×2 asymmetric waveguide coupler design together with a cascaded design scheme. Non-sequential ray tracing of the asymmetric hollow optical waveguide couplers is performed to predict the optical transmission properties of the waveguide. A representation of the code combination that can be generated from the device is obtained using combinatory number theory.

This paper proposes a new approach for suitable load buses identification via stability index tracing in performing corrective load shedding. The proposed identification technique is called the Fast Voltage Stability Index Load Tracing (FVSI-LT). By implementing a power tracing algorithm, a group of major contributors on the stress experienced by a power system is able to be precisely identified by a system operator (SO) based on the traced values of FVSI. To be precise, the traced FVSI via FVSI-LT can be used to form a ranking list indicating the priority of buses committed for shedding purpose. After designing a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) for deciding the allowable load powers to be shed and performing experiment on IEEE 57-Bus reliability test system (RTS), it is revealed that the ranking list provided by FVSI-LT results to the most consistent improvement in terms of voltage stability and losses minimization.
