Nowadays, the energetic efficiency becomes one of the major interests of the global society. Thus, the energetic challenges of the new century enforce the scientific and industrial environment to the development of new efficient materials, which present more than the classical thermal properties, according to the energy storage, energy consumption and other specific needs. In this context, the present work constitutes the third step of the development of a new kind of composite materials (micro-composites and nano-composites), using natural marl (clay) clay and biodegradable polymer, which is the PolyEthylene Glycol 6000 (PEG 6000). This step corresponds to characterization of the variation of the specific heat (denoted Cp) of the materials elaborated. So, in order to estimate the capacity of thermal energy adsorption, we utilized a SHIMATZU-DSC 60 Differential Scanning Calorimeter. The main results present the evolution of the Cp according to the PEG 6000 doping and also the specific melting enthalpy of the polymer within the natural clay matrix;by the way this enthalpy constitutes the specific heat stocked in the materials.

Patients with chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) have long been considered at risk for viral hepatitis B. However, recent epidemiological studies have found similar prevalence, or even lower than in the general population. The objective of this work is to determine the prevalence of viral hepatitis B (HVB) during IBD, to determine the risk factors in the service of Hepato-gastroenterology of university hospital Hassan II-Fez, and of evaluate the impact on therapeutic management. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective study, spread over a period of 17 years and a half (January 2001-June 2017). All patients treated for IBD who are tested for Hbs Ag and anti Hbcwere included. The HVB DNA levels were tested in case of positivity of HbsAgor anti Hbc. Results: Over the study period, 755 patients were included. The average age of our patients was 35 years [14 - 87] with a sex-ratio H/F of 0.67. We had 391 cases (51.8%) of Crohn’s disease (CD) and 364 cases (48.2%) of ulcerative colitis (UC). Anti HBctest was positive in 1.98% of cases (N = 15). In these patients, HBsAg was positive in 1.19% of cases (N = 9). The prevalence of HVB was 2.55% in CD (N = 10) versus 1.37% in UC (N = 5). In our work, no history of surgery, digestive endoscopy or transfusion has been shown to be a risk factor for viral transmission. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of HVB in IBD is similar to that of the general population. The safety of blood transfusions and the improvement of asepsis probably explain these results. However, the risk of viral reactivation during HVB, sometimes fatal under immunosuppressive treatment, requires systematic screening.

Modelling Soil Erosion and Sedimentation in the Oued Haricha Sub-Basin (Tahaddart Watershed, Western Rif, Morocco): Risk Assessment

This study evaluates the annual loss of soil in the sub-basin of Oued Haricha (Tahaddart basin, Western Rif, NW Morocco). The integration of revised (RUSLE) and modified (MUSLE) soil loss empirical equations of Wischmeier and Smith in combination with GIS permits the modelling of soil erosion at the scale of parcels. The characteristics of precipitation and runoff, the soil properties, the culture system and the current working practices of soil in the sub-basin of the Oued Haricha are collected from local data. The digital terrain model is used to generate topographic factors. The combination of different RUSLE factors shows that the annual soil is 62.72 t/ha/year and corresponds to an average level of risk. The total losses calculated by MUSLE method are valued at 221,468 t/year. The rates of loss due to linear erosion are 82,652 t/year. These soil losses represent 20.33% of the total losses, and confirm that the losses on the slopes outweigh the losses due to the river system. Sedimentation module shows that the areas of high erosion (greater than 200 t/ha/year) are concentrated in the reliefs with average and high slope and occupy 38% of the total area. The deposition areas occupy the centre of sub-basin and constitute 9.12% of the total area. These deposits were concentrated on the edges of major rivers and the outlet of the sub-basin and contributed to siltation of the April 9, 1947 dam.

Gastric adenocarcinoma is the most common gastric tumor. It is the fifth most common cancer worldwide after lung cancer, breast, colo rectal and prostate cancer. Long considered enigmatic, its epidemiology has changed over time. In fact, the incidence of distal gastric cancer has declined while that of the cardia was stable or increased. This cancer is multifactorial but reducing the incidence of distal cancer is particularly attributed to advances in the treatment of H. pylori infection. In this review, we analyzed the available data concerning the changing epidemiology of gastric cancer and the main risk factors. The incidence of distal cancer is definitely declining due to the control of Helicobacter pylori infection. Proximal gastric cancer and cardia cancer is particularly due to smoking, overweight.

Chronic Viral Hepatitis C: Before and after Direct Acting Antivirals (DAA) in Morocco

For a long time, a combination of interferon and ribavirin has been used to treat viral hepatitis C, but the sustained virological response was only achieved in 45% of cases and side effects were serious [1]. Direct acting antivirals (DAA) have provided a cure for almost everyone with hepatitis C, with few side effects. The Purpose of Our Work is to compare the results of treatment for viral hepatitis C before and after DAA. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective study, bringing together all patients with chronic viral hepatitis C treated between January 2009 and March 2020 at the University Hospital Hassan II in Fez, Morocco. The epidemiological, clinical, biological, virological characteristics of the included patients were collected from the two groups: A, treated with interferon and ribavirin or by triple therapy and B, treated with DAA. Results: 162 patients were included, the average age was 55 y/o, with 90 women and 72 men. 88 patients (54.3%) were already cirrhotic, of which 61 were compensated and 27 were decompensated. Genotype 1 was dominant with a frequency of 71.6%, 107 patients (66%) initially treated with old HCV treatments and 55 (34%) treated with DAA. Sustained viral response was obtained in 59 cases (55.14%) in group A versus 54 cases (98.18%) in group B with a very significant difference (p < 0.0001). Treatment failure was observed in 14 patients (13.1%) in group A and only one patient, i.e. 2% in group B (p = 0.019). 14 patients relapsed in group A (13.1%) versus 0 patient in group B (p = 0.003). The tolerance of the treatment was excellent in group B as a whole with only five patients (9%) reported side effects which were minor, not leading to the discontinuation of treatment while the side effects were major in 49 patients (45.7%) in group A with led to the permanent discontinuation of treatment in 6 patients. This paper discusses the integration between GIS and hydrological models and presents a case study relating to the upper section of Moulouya River Basin (UMRB) situated in the east of Morocco. The Basin is an inland water-shed with a total area of approximately 10,000 km2, stretching in the junction between the Middle Atlas, the High Atlas Mountain and the Middle Moulouya basin. From ArcGIS ArcHydro framework data models, different parameters of the Moulouya River and its catchment area have been defined. DEM based ArcHydro model was run on Aster-GDEM V2 data at a horizontal spatial resolution of 30 meters. Several raster and vector products of the Upper Moulouya River and its catchment area have been defined at the end of the model. Final results of the models were discussed and compared with the reality. These results can be used in baseline for advanced hydrology and geomorphology research on the catchment area. They can support for decision-making on ground and surface water resource, distribution and management.

Hypercalcemia is a common disorder that can cause acute kidney failure, neurological damage up to coma, arrhythmia and cardiac arrest. The management of hypercalcemia is based on intravenous hydration with normal saline, when insufficient, bisphosphonate treatment is used. More recently, denosumab has shown significant benefit. Hemodialysis is an additional option in the treatment of severe refractory hypercalcemia when medical treatment is deemed ineffective or unavailable. It allows rapid correction of calcium levels, especially in patients with renal failure or cardiac co-morbidities, where hydration cannot be performed safely. The aim of our study was to compare hemodialysis as a therapeutic tool, to more conservative treatments. Our study is retrospective, descriptive, analytical and comparative, sprawling from January 2015 to June 2019 at the university hospital Hassan II in Fez. 78 patients with hypercalcemia were studied. The mean age was 55 ± 15 years and sex ratio M/F of 1.1. The mean corrected serum calcium at admission was 144 mg/l ± 23 mg/l. Malignancies represented 72.7% of all etiologies. Kidney injury was observed in 50 of our patients (64%). Mortality was noted in 16.6% of all cases. When comparing the 2 groups (patient on dialysis versus patient under other treatments), electrocardiogram abnormalities, patient who had high levels of calcium and those who had hyperparathyroidism were more likely to be on dialysis rate. In our study, even though we used relatively high calcium dialysate, we were able to achieve a decrease of 39% in patient’s calcemia in the hemodialysis group versus 27% decrease when using a combination of forced saline dieresis and bisphosphonate without a difference in term of mortality.

Broncholithiasis is the presence of calcified material in the bronchial lumen. Bronchial fibroscopy and thoracic CT are the main paraclinical elements for diagnosis. However, most broncholithiasis is fortuitous discovery intraoperatively. The evolution may be marked by complications in the underlying lung, or fistulization in the mediastinal structures especially the esophagus. Early on, management can be simple monitoring or endoscopic extraction of broncholithiasis. Surgery remains the only option in case of complications. The authors report 2 cases of broncholithiasis, one of which was diagnosed radiologically and the other of incidental discovery during the surgical exploration of a lesion of the right lower lobe.
