Analysis of the Influence of Wind Turbine Noise on Seismic Recordings at Two Wind Parks in Germany

We recorded continuous seismic noise close and around two wind parks with different geological site conditions in order to investigate the effects of wind turbines on seismic signals in the frequency interval between 1 and 10 Hz. In wind park Fraureuth-Beiersdorf (5 turbines, 11 km south from Zwickau, Saxony), we used small seismic networks, with 3 to 5 stations for 1 - 2 weeks. In Heinde (2 turbines, close to Hildesheim, Lower Saxony), we recorded 1 week with one station around 1 km away from the wind turbines and some additional stations for several hours only. With the spectrogram analysis of the data, we clearly identify the diurnal variation on the spectral amplitude separately from the noise generated by the turbines. The turbine noise appears at certain frequency bands around 2.2, 2.7, 3.3, 4.5, 5.2 and 6.6 Hz. A linear relation between the spectral amplitudes of these frequency bands and the wind velocity or rotation velocity of the turbines is clearly identified. The seismic signals produced by the operation of the wind turbines are not peaks at single frequencies, but look more like frequency bands with increased noise amplitudes. They could be identified up to at least 10 km in the case of Fraureuth-Beiersdorf. These bands depend on numerous parameters, i.e. wind turbine height, weight and construction, number of turbines, geology, etc. In both wind parks we also recorded along profiles with increasing distances from the wind turbines. With the analysis of these data, we propose an amplitude attenuation model for the wind park Fraureuth-Beiersdorf to a distance of 9 km, and for Heinde to a distance of 4 km. The attenuation models for both wind parks are quite different, depending probably on the local geology and topography.

This paper addresses the damaging role of the parasitic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in the negative half-cell of a vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) on state-of-the-art carbon felt electrodes at different temperatures. It was found that increasing the temperature resulted in a better catalytic performance for both the positive and negative half-cell reactions. In addition, increasing the temperature significantly enhanced the undesired HER at the negative side. Operating the VRFB cell at higher temperature led to a decrease in the coulombic efficiency attributed to the higher hydrogen production. More pronounced hydrogen production caused an oxidation on the surface of the carb on fibers and a degradation of the electrode as indicated from scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements. This observed degradation results in fading of the overall performance of the vanadium redox flow battery over time.

ATP synthases in chloroplasts （cpATPase） and mitochondria （mtATPase） are responsible for ATP production during photosynthesis and oxidative phosphorylation, respectively. Both enzymes consist of two multi- subunit complexes, the membrane-bound coupling factor O and the soluble coupling factor 1. During cpATPase biosynthesis, several accessory factors facilitate subunit production and orchestrate complex assembly. Here, we describe a new auxiliary protein in Arabidopsis thaliana, which is required for cpATPase accumulation. AtCGLD11 （CONSERVED IN THE GREEN LINEAGE AND DIATOMS 11） is a protein without any known functional domain and shows dual localization to chloroplasts and mitochondria. Loss of AtCGLDll function results in reduced levels of cpATPase and impaired photosynthetic performance with lower rates of ATP synthesis. In yeast two-hybrid experiments, AtCGLD11 interacts with the 13 subunits of the cpATPase and mtATPase. Our results suggest that AtCGLD11 functions in F1 assembly during cpATPase biogenesis, while its role in mtATPase biosynthesis may not, or not yet, be essential.

We are exploring a generic strongly-interacting Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Sector(EWSBS) with the low-energy effective field theory for the four experimentally known particles(W_L~±,Z_l,h) and its dispersion-relation based unitary *** this contribution we provide simple estimates for the production cross-section of pairs of the EWSBS bosons and their resonances at proton-proton colliders as well as in a future e^-e^+(or potentially aμ^-μ^+) collider with a typical few-TeV *** examine the simplest production mechanisms,tree-level production through a W(dominant when quantum numbers allow) and the simple effective boson approximation(in which the electroweak bosons are considered as collinear partons of the colliding fermions).We exemplify with custodial isovector and isotensor resonances at 2 TeV,the energy currently being discussed because of a slight excess in the ATLAS 2-jet *** find it hard,though not unthinkable,to ascribe this excess to one of these W_lW_l rescattering *** isovector resonance could be produced at a rate smaller than,but close to earlier CMS exclusion bounds,depending on the parameters of the effective *** ZZ excess is then problematic and requires additional physics(such as an additional scalar resonance).The isotensor one(that would describe all charge combinations) has smaller cross-section.

Ca2＋ has been established as an important second messenger regulating pollen germination and tube growth. However, to date, only a few signaling components have been identified to decode and relay Ca2＋ signals in growing pollen tubes. Here, we report a function for the calcineurin B-like （CBL） Ca2＋ sensor proteins CBL1 and CBL9 from Arabidopsis in pollen germination and tube growth. Both proteins are expressed in mature pollen and pollen tubes and impair pollen tube growth and morphology if transiently overexpressed in tobacco pollen. The induction of these phenotypes requires efficient plasma membrane targeting of CBL1 and is independent of Ca2＋ binding to the fourth EF-hand of CBL1. Overexpression of CBL1 or its closest homolog CBL9 in Arabidopsis renders pollen germination and tube growth hypersensitive towards high external K＋ concentrations while disruption of CBL1 and CBL9 reduces pollen tube growth under low K~ conditions. Together, our data identify a crucial function for CBL1 and CBL9 in pollen germination and tube growth and suggest a model in which both proteins act at the plasma membrane through regulation of K＋ homeostasis.

＜正＞ The aim of the project was to examine the thermo-hydraulic process of air-steam leakage with possible condensation through known crack patterns. The tests simulate a section of a containment wall and allow modifying the crack width independent from the temperature and internal pressure. Therefore tests at varying crack openings could be performed while using the same load scenario. Additionally to the tests with air-steam mixtures pure air tests were performed before, in between and after steam tests in order to compare the leakage rates for the given crack pattern.
