HCV-RNA positivity in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with chronic HCV-infection: does it really mean viral replication?

AIM To analyze the association of HCV-RNA with peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC)and to answer the question whether HCV-RNA positivity in PBMC is due to viral replication,METHODS HCV-RNA was monitored in serumand PBMC preparations from 15 patients with chronic HCV infection before, during and after an IFN-α therapy using a nested RT/ PCRtechnique. In a second approach, PBMC from healthy donors were incubated in HCV positive *** In the IFN-α responding patients,HCV-RNA disappeared first from total RNApreparations of PBMC and then from serum. In contrast, in relapsing patients, HCV-RNAreappeared first in serum and then in PBMC. A quantitative analysis of the HCV-RNAconcentration in serum was performed before and after transition from detectable to nondetectable HCV-RNA in PBMC-RNA and vice versa. When HCV-RNA was detectable in PBMCpreparations, the HCV concentration in serum was significantly higher than the serum HCV-RNA concentration when HCV-RNA in PBMC was not detectable. Furthermore, at no time during the observation period was HCV specific RNA observed in PBMC, if HCV-RNA in serum was under the detection limit. Incubation of PBMCfrom healthy donors with several dilutions of HCV positive plasma for two hours showed a concentration-dependent PCR-positivity for HCV-RNA in reisolated *** The detectability of HCV-RNA in total RNA from PBMC seems to depend on the HCV concentration in serum. Contamination or passive adsorption by circulating virus could be the reason for detection of HCV-RNA in PBMCpreparations of chronically infected patients.

＜正＞Synthesis of two large shape persistent macrocycles contg. phenyl-ethynl and polycyclic aromatic units in their backbone and fixed intraannular long flexible alkyl substituents e.g. Ⅰ, Ⅱ are described. For both compounds a nematic discotic mesophase could be observed. X-ray analysis of single crystal structure of Ⅰ shows that no interlocking of the molecules by an entanglement of rigid and flexible parts between adjacent molecules, the polycyclic aromatic backbone reduces the size of the open cavity inside the rings. This investigation undoubtedly proved that discotic liquid crystals with an inverted topology really exist: rigid periphery （polycyclic aromatic backbone）,

Positional Information Storage in Sequence Patterns

We build a model of storage of well-defined positional information in probabilistic sequence patterns. Once a pattern is defined, it is possible to judge the effect of any mutation in it. We show that the frequency of beneficial mutations can be high in general and the same mutation can be either advantageous or deleterious depending on the pattern’s context. The model allows to treat positional information as a physical quantity, formulate its conservation law and to model its continuous evolution in a whole genome, with meaningful applications of basic physical principles such as optimal efficiency and channel capacity. A plausible example of optimal solution analytically describes phase transitions-like behavior. The model shows that, in principle, it is possible to store error-free information on sequences with arbitrary low conservation. The described theoretical framework allows one to approach from novel general perspectives such long-standing paradoxes as excessive junk DNA in large genomes or the corresponding G- and C-values paradoxes. We also expect it to have an effect on a number of fundamental concepts in population genetics including the neutral theory, cost-of-selection dilemma, error catastrophe and others.

Recombination mechanisms and thermal droop in AlGaN-based UV-B LEDs

This paper reports a comprehensive analysis of the origin of the electroluminescence(EL)peaks and of the thermal droop in UV-B AlGaN-based *** carrying out spectral measurements at several temperatures and currents,(i)we extract information on the physical origin of the various spectral bands,and(ii) we develop a novel closed-form model based on the Shockley–Read–Hall theory and on the ABC rate equation that is able to reproduce the experimental data on thermal droop caused by non-radiative recombination through deep *** the samples under test,the three EL bands are ascribed to the following processes:band-to-band recombination in the quantum wells(main EL peak),a parasitic intra-bandgap radiative transition in the quantum well barriers,and a second defect-related radiative process in the p-AlGaN superlattice.

Analysis of forestry impacts and biodiversity in two Pyrenean forests through a comparison of moth communities （Lepidoptera, Heterocera）

We have compared the biodiversity variations in moth communities between unmanaged forests and commercial forests in a mountainous environment （Pyrenees France）. The aim was to evaluate the impact of forestry activities on moth diversity. The data collected from the insects were analysed with a Bayesian specific similarity index （noted SSP index） and by statistical biodiversity indexes comparison. It was seen that diversity and richness were decreased in the plantation compared to the unmanaged forest. Interestingly, the composition of the communities of moths was shown to be not only related to the presence/absence of host plants, but also to be in relation with changes in the differences in forest architecture （i.e. the relative coverage by the different vegetation levels）. However, the moth community in the commercial forest still has a high capacity to converge with the moth community present in more natural forests. We report here a list of 177 species of moths, providing information on the distribution of some uncommon species, poorly studied as yet in the Pyrenees.

Three-dimensional(3D)nano-printing of freeform optical waveguides,also referred to as photonic wire bonding,allows for efficient coupling between photonic chips and can greatly simplify optical system *** a key advantage,the shape and the trajectory of photonic wire bonds can be adapted to the mode-field profiles and the positions of the chips,thereby offering an attractive alternative to conventional optical assembly techniques that rely on technically complex and costly high-precision ***,while the fundamental advantages of the photonic wire bonding concept have been shown in proof-of-concept experiments,it has so far been unclear whether the technique can also be leveraged for practically relevant use cases with stringent reproducibility and reliability *** this paper,we demonstrate optical communication engines that rely on photonic wire bonding for connecting arrays of silicon photonic modulators to InP lasers and single-mode *** a first experiment,we show an eight-channel transmitter offering an aggregate line rate of 448 Gbit/s by low-complexity intensity modulation.A second experiment is dedicated to a four-channel coherent transmitter,operating at a net data rate of 732.7 Gbit/s-a record for coherent silicon photonic transmitters with co-packaged *** dedicated test chips,we further demonstrate automated mass production of photonic wire bonds with insertion losses of(0.7±0.15)dB,and we show their resilience in environmental-stability tests and at high optical *** results might form the basis for simplified assembly of advanced photonic multi-chip systems that combine the distinct advantages of different integration platforms.

碱激发材料(AAMs)的物化特性、力学性能与耐久性能已被广泛研究。然而,关于AAMs的生命周期分析(LCA)的最新报道,尚未进行全面回顾。因此,本研究旨在通过对全球范围内发表的有关该主题的文章进行系统的文献综述来填补这一空白。通过对不同数据库进行检索,本文筛选出使用AAMs作为净浆、砂浆、混凝土、砖和夯土/土块的LCA研究。筛选出的研究根据前驱体、碱活化剂、功能单元、系统边界、生命周期清单数据库、分配、影响方法和使用的软件等方面进行分类和回顾。此外,本文还对AAMs的LCA面临的关键挑战进行批判性分析,其中首要的难题是功能单元的选择、边界系统的主观性和数据的解释说明。研究表明,与普通硅酸盐水泥相比,AAMs在减缓全球变暖潜能方面有利,而在其他方面(如海洋生态毒性和臭氧层破坏)的潜能值高一些。
