Background Malaria continues to cause burden in various parts of the ***,a Caribbean country,is among those aiming to eliminate malaria within a few *** surveys were conducted in Haiti during which we aimed to evaluate the performance of the simple and rapid procedure for ultra-rapid extraction-loop-mediated isothermal amplifcation(PURE-LAMP)method with dried blood spots as an alternative diagnostic method for malaria in the context of low to very low rates of *** Febrile and afebrile people were recruited from three administrative divisions within Haiti:Nippes,sud and Grand’Anse,during the summers of 2017(early August to early September)and 2018(late July to late August).Their blood samples were tested by microscopy,rapid diagnostic tests(RDT),PURE-LAMP and nested PCR to detect Plasmodium ***,specifcity,positive and negative predictive values and kappa statistics were estimated with the nested PCR results as the gold *** Among 1074 samples analyzed,a positive rate of 8.3%was calculated based on the nested PCR *** febrile participants,the rates in 2017 and 2018 were 14.6%and 1.4%,*** positives were detected among 172 afebrile participants in 2018 by PURE-LAMP and nested PCR,and all three were from the same *** was no afebrile participants recruited in *** PURE-LAMP,RDT and microscopy had respective sensitivities of 100%,85.4%and 49.4%.All of the testing methods had specifcities over 99%.Conclusions This study confrmed the high performance of the PURE-LAMP method to detect Plasmodium infection with dried blood spots and recommends its use in targeted mass screening and treatment activities in low endemic areas of malaria.

Despite the ongoing decrease in the frequency of complications after hepatectomy, biliary fistulas still occur and are associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Here, we report on an unusual technique for managing biliary fistula following left hepatectomy in a patient in whom the right posterior segmental duct joined the left hepatic duct. The biliary fistula was treated with a combined radiologic and endoscopic procedure based on the "rendezvous technique". The clinical outcome was good, and reoperation was not required.

BACKGROUND Several strategies have been implemented to reduce or abolish the life-threatening risk of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)-related multidrug-resistant infections due to duodenoscopes contaminations;among those strategies,serial microbiologic tests,thorough reprocessing schedules,and use of removable scope cap have been adopted,but the potential cross-infection risk was not *** To review available evidence in the field of single-use duodenoscopes(sud)use for *** An overview on ongoing clinical studies was also performed to delineate which data will become available in the next *** One bench comparative study and four clinical trials performed with EXALT model-D(Boston Scientific Corp.,United States)have been *** them,one is a randomized controlled trial,while the other three studies are prospective single-arm,cross-over *** technical success rate(4 studies,368 patients)was 92.9%[95%confidence interval(CI):89.9-95.5;I2:11.8%].Pooled serious adverse event(4 studies,381 patients)rate was 5.9%[3.7%-8.5%;I2:0.0%].CONCLUSION Although few clinical trials are available,evidence is concordant in identifying an absolute feasibility and safety and feasibility for sud use for *** expertise and quality of evidence in this field are going to be improved by further large clinical trials;data on cost-effectiveness and environmental impact will be needed for a worldwide spread of sud use for ERCP.

The β^+ decay of ^(31)Ar was investigated in an experiment at the GSI-FRS *** ions of interest have been produced in the fragmentation of a ^(36)Ar beam at 880 Me V/nucleon and implanted in a time projection chamber with optical readout. In addition to β-delayed one and two proton emission, for the first time the emission of β-delayed 3 protons has been observed. The branching ratio for this decay mode is found to be(0.07 ± 0.02)%.

Hepatic hydatid disease is an uncommon surgical emergency. We report an observation and its diagnosis and treatment. Case report. - An algerian child consulted in emergency unit for appendicitis syndrome. The surgeon discovered an opened hydatid liver cyst. He performed a cystectomy associated with post-operative chemotherapy. Discussion. - Hepatic hydatid disease is frequent in endemic zone. If not complicated, it is often revealed by hepatomegaly. The diagnosis is radiological and mainly serological. Management is medicosurgical. Conclusion. - Prognosis depends on early surgical management. Long-time serological and echographic follow-up is required.

Purpose:The aim of the present study was to assess both the credibility and strength of evidence arising from systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies on handgrip strength and health ***:An umbrella review of systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies was *** assessed meta-analyses of observational studies based on random-effect summary effect sizes and their p values,95%prediction intervals,heterogeneity,small-study effects,and excess *** graded the evidence from convincing(Class I)to weak(Class IV).Results:From 504 articles returned in a search of the literature,8 systematic reviews were included in our review,with a total of 11 ***,nine of the 11 of the outcomes reported nominally significant summary results(p<0.05),with 4 associations surviving the application of the more stringent p value(p<106).No outcome presented convincing *** associations showed Class II evidence(i.e.,highly suggestive):(1)higher handgrip values at baseline were associated with a minor reduction in mortality risk in the general population(n=34 studies;sample size=1,855,817;relative risk=0.72,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.670.78),(2)cardiovascular death risk in mixed populations(n=15 studies;relative risk=0.84,95%CI:0.780.91),and(3)incidence of disability(n=7 studies;relative risk=0.76,95%CI:0.660.87).Conclusion:The present results show that handgrip strength is a useful indicator for general health status and specifically for early all-cause and cardiovascular mortality,as well as *** further inform intervention strategies,future research is now required to fully understand mechanisms linking handgrip strength scores to these health outcomes.
