Members of the Torpedinidae(torpedoes)and Hypnidae(coffin ray)use electric organ discharges(EOd)to stun or kill their prey before *** investigated whether EOd could also negatively affect the helminth larvae infecting these preys through a surrogate model:we applied electric discharges to individuals of blue whiting,Micromesistius poutassou,that harbored live larvae of *** mortality throughout a 6-h period was significantly higher in the treatment group,suggesting that EOds could significantly hamper helminth *** then tested whether torpedinids and hypnids(“strong-EOd”families)harbored species-poor helminth(cestode)assemblages compared with“weak-EOd”Torpediniformes(Narcidae and Narkidae)and other *** on comparisons on estimated species diversity and mean species richness of tapeworms at host individual level we found that(i)Torpediniformes had the lowest tapeworm diversity of all Batoidea orders;(ii)Torpedo *** had the lowest mean cestode richness at host individual level,and this could not be related to other host factors influencing cestode diversity in chondrichthyans,that is body size,trophic level or dietary ***,a preliminary comparison between“strong-EOd”and“weak-EOd”Torpediniformes did not detect clear differences of cestode ***,evidence supporting an unambiguous contribution of EOds to depauperate cestode assemblages requires further research.

Climate models constitute an essential tool to understand our planet, as they implement the laws of physics describing the ocean, land and atmosphere dynamics. However, resolving processes at fine resolutions constitute an important computational botleneck. Parameterization(or closure) approximates such(e.g. turbulent) processes that cannot be resolved in climate models.

This paper aims at non-asymptotically estimating the fractional integral and derivative of the pseudo-state for a class of fractional order linear systems in noisy environment with unknown initial conditions. For this purpose, the estimation problem is transformed to estimate the fractional integral and derivative of the output and a set of unknown initial conditions. Then, the modulating functions method is applied to obtain explicit algebraic integral formulae, which give robust estimations in discrete noisy case. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

Biodissolution experiments on cinnabar ore （mercury sulphide and other sulphide minerals, such as pyrite） were performed with microorganisms extracted directly from soil. These experiments were carried out in closed systems under aerobic and anaerobic conditions with 2 different soils sampled in French Guyana. The two main objectives of this study were （1） to quantify the ability of microorganisms to mobilize metals （Fe, A1, Hg） during the dissolution of cinnabar ore, and （2） to identify the links between the type and chemical properties of soils, environmental parameters such as season and the strategies developed by indigenous microorganisms extracted from tropical natural soils to mobilize metals, Results indicate that microbial communities extracted directly from various soils are able to （1） survive in the presence of cinnabar ore, as indicated by consumption of carbon sources and, （2） leach Hg from cinnabar in oxic and anoxic dissolution experiments via the acidification of the medium and the production of low molecular mass organic acids （LMMOAs）. The dissolution rate of cinnabar in aerobic conditions with microbial communities ranged from 4.8 x 10-4 to 2.6 x 10-3 μmol/m2/day and was independent of the metabolites released by the microorganisms. In addition, these results suggest an indirect action by the microorganisms in the cinnabar dissolution. Additionally, because iron is a key element in the dynamics of Hg, microbes were stimulated by the presence of this metal, and microbes released LMMOAs that leached iron from iron-bearing minerals, such as pyrite and oxy-hydroxide of iron, in the mixed cinnabar ore.

To date there is no treatment able to stop or slow down the loss of dopaminergic neurons that characterizes Parkinson’s *** was recently observed in a rodent model of Alzheimer’s disease that the interaction between the α7 subtype of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor(α7-nAChR)and sigma-1 receptor(σ1-R)could exert neuroprotective effects through the modulation of neuroinflammation which is one of the key components of the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s *** this context,the aim of the present study was to assess the effects of the concomitant administration of N-(3R)-1-azabicyclo[2.2.2]oct-3-yl-furo[2,3-c]pyridine-5-carboxamide(PHA)543613 as an α7-nAChR agonist and 2-(4-morpholinethyl)1-phenylcyclohexanecarboxylate(PRE)-084 as aσ1-R agonist in a well-characterized 6-hydroxydopamine rat model of Parkinson’s *** animals received either vehicle separately or the dual therapy PHA/PRE once a day until day 14 *** no effect was noticed in the amphetamine-induced rotation test,our data has shown that the PHA/PRE treatment induced partial protection of the dopaminergic neurons(15-20%),assessed by the dopamine transporter density in the striatum and immunoreactive tyrosine hydroxylase in the substantia ***,this dual therapy reduced the degree of glial activation consecutive to the 6-hydroxydopamine lesion,i.e,the 18 kda translocation protein density and glial fibrillary acidic protein staining in the striatum,and the Cd11b and glial fibrillary acidic protein staining in the substantia ***,this study reports for the first time that concomitant activation of α7-nAChR andσ1-R can provide a partial recovery of the nigro-striatal dopaminergic neurons through the modulation of microglial *** study was approved by the Regional Ethics Committee(CEEA val de Loire n°19)validated this protocol(Authorization N°00434.02)on May 15,2014.
