High tacrolimus intra-patient variability is associated with graft rejection,and de novo donor-specific antibodies occurrence after liver transplantation

AIM To investigate the role of tacrolimus intra-patient variability(IPV) in adult liver-transplant *** We retrospectively assessed tacrolimus variability in a cohort of liver-transplant recipients and analyzed its effect on the occurrence of graft rejection and de novo donor-specific antibodies(dn DSAs), as well as graft survival during the first 2 years posttransplantation. Between 02/08 and 06/2015, 116 patients that received tacrolimus plus mycophenolate mofetil(with or without steroids) were included. RESULTS Twenty-two patients(18.5%) experienced at least one acute-rejection episode(BPAR). Predictive factors for a BPAR were a tacrolimus IPV of > 35% [OR = 3.07 95%CI(1.14-8.24), P = 0.03] or > 40% [OR = 4.16(1.38-12.50), P = 0.01), and a tacrolimus trough level of 35% [OR = 4.83, 95%CI(1.39-16.72), P = 0.01] and > 40% [OR = 9.73, 95%CI(2.65-35.76), P = 0.001] were identified as predictors to detect dn DSAs. IPV did not impact on patient-or graft-survival rates during the follow-up. CONCLUSION Tacrolimus-IPV could be a useful tool to identify patients with a greater risk of graft rejection and of developing a de novo DSA after liver

Deep learning in nano-photonics:inverse design and beyond

Deep learning in the context of nano-photonics is mostly discussed in terms of its potential for inverse design of photonic devices or nano-structures. Many of the recent works on machine-learning inverse design are highly specific, and the drawbacks of the respective approaches are often not immediately clear. In this review we want therefore to provide a critical review on the capabilities of deep learning for inverse design and the progress which has been made so far. We classify the different deep-learning-based inverse design approaches at a higher level as well as by the context of their respective applications and critically discuss their strengths and weaknesses. While a significant part of the community’s attention lies on nano-photonic inverse design, deep learning has evolved as a tool for a large variety of applications. The second part of the review will focus therefore on machine learning research in nano-photonics "beyond inverse design." This spans from physics-informed neural networks for tremendous acceleration of photonics simulations, over sparse data reconstruction, imaging and "knowledge discovery" to experimental applications.

Predictive factors of histological response of colorectal liver metastases after neoadjuvant chemotherapy

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men and the second most common in women worldwide. Almost a third of the patients has or will develop liver metastases. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC) has recently become nearly systematic prior to surgery of colorectal livers metastases(CRLMs). The response to NAC is evaluated by radiological imaging according to morphological *** recently, the response to NAC has been evaluated based on histological criteria of the resected specimen. The most often used score is the tumor regression grade(TRG), which considers the necrosis, fibrosis, and number of viable tumor *** To analyze the predictive factors of the histological response, according to the TRG, on CRLM surgery performed after *** January 2006 to December 2013, 150 patients who had underwent surgery for CRLMs after NAC were included. The patients were separated into two groups based on their histological response, according to Rubbia-Brandt *** on their TRG, each patient was either assigned to the responder(R) group(TRG 1, 2, and 3) or to the non-responder(NR) group(TRG 4 and 5). MXenes are two-dimensional transition metal carbides and/or nitrides with unique physiochemical properties and have attracted extensive interest in numerous ***,current MXene synthesis methods are limited by hazardous synthesis conditions,high production costs,or difficulty in largescale ***,a general,safe,cost-effective,and scalable synthesis method for MXenes is ***,we report the fast synthesis of MXenes in the open air using a molten salt-shielded synthesis(MS^(3))method,which uses Lewis-acid salts as etchants and a low-melting-point eutectic salt mixture as the reaction medium and shield to prevent MXene oxidation at high *** and nitride MXenes,including Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x),Ti_(2)CT_(x),Ti_(3)CNT_(x),and Ti_(4)N_(3)T_(x),were successfully synthesized using the MS^(3) *** also present the flexibility of the MS^(3) method by scaling the etching process to large batches of 20 and 60 g of Ti_(3)AlC_(2) MAX precursor in one *** used as negative electrodes,the prepared MS^(3)-MXenes delivered excellent electrochemical properties for high-rate Li-ion storage.

The present study was carried out to evaluate the quality of the rhizomes of Zingiber officinale and Zingiber zerumbet from different areas of Togo on the basis of their essential oil content and composition. The dry rhizomes were pulverised, hydrodistilled and essential oils were analysed using GC and GC/MS techniques. The results revealed that the essential oil yield of Z. zerumbet ranged from 0.75% to 1.00% and was mainly composed by Zerumbone (51.8% - 37.5%) and humulene (21.7% - 28.2%). Z. officinale essential oil yielded from 1.25% to 1.67%, with major components as zingiberene (33% - 39.9%);basibolene (12.7% - 16%), and sesquiphellandrene (13% - 14.7%).

Xenoliths Evidence of Alkaline Magmatic Infiltrations Beneath Lake Nyos (Cameroon Volcanic Line, West Africa)

Xenoliths enclosed in Lavas of the Nyos volcano (Cameroon Volcanic Line, continental sector) range from fertile lherzolites to harzburgites. One spinel-free wehrlite has been also sampled. The occurrence of phlogopites and pargasites in some harzburgites together with specific textural rock-type (lherzolites transitional porphyroclastic to equigranular), including major and trace element compositions both in peridotites bulk rocks and minerals point out interactions between the mantle and basaltic magmas responsible for the formation of wehrlites beneath the Nyos volcano. Hydrous minerals (phlogopites and pargasites) and metasomatic events are their main petrogeochemical signatures different from group 1 samples which are characterized by spoon-shaped REE patterns. Later on, hydrous phases, Ti-rich Cpx, CaO rich Ol, Ti, and V rich Ol wehrlite precipitated from melt enrichments due to the percolation of the mantle by basaltic magmas of alkaline affinity. The metasomatic liquid which percolates the Nyos mantle column was a dense alkaline silicate rich in volatile, displaying low HFSE abundances in the metasomatic hydrous melts compared to the LILE. It is suggested that Nyos mantle peridotites have experienced: 1) variable metasomatic events related to the percolating of the depleted mantle by a alkaline silicate liquid, 2) the spinel-free wehrlite is a group 2 sample corresponding to a cumulate of a similar melt, 3) amphibole may be a potassium-bearing mineral instead of or in addition to phlogopite at shallower levels of Nyos upper mantle and 4) transitional textural rock facies express also the fingerprint of rising mantle plume which were percolated by alkaline magma during their transit to the surface.

Electro-Hydrodynamics and Kinetic Modeling of Dry and Humid Air Flows Activated by Corona Discharges

The present work is devoted to the 2D simulation of a point-to-plane Atmospheric Corona Discharge Reactor （ACDR） powered by a DC high voltage supply. The corona reactor is periodically crossed by thin mono filamentary streamers with a natural repetition frequency of some tens of kHz. The study compares the results obtained in dry air and in air mixed with a small amount of water vapour （humid air）. The simulation involves the electro-dynamics~ chemical kinetics and neutral gas hydrodynamics phenomena that influence the kinetics of the chemical species transformation. Each discharge lasts about one hundred of a nanosecond while the post- discharge occurring between two successive discharges lasts one hundred of a microsecond. The ACDR is crossed by a lateral dry or humid air flow initially polluted with 400 ppm of NO. After 5 ms, the time corresponding to the occurrence of 50 successive discharge/post-discharge phases, a higher NO removal rate and a lower ozone production rate are found in humid air. This change is due to the presence of the HO2 species formed from the H primary radical in the discharge zone.
