Few studies have been conducted on the epidemiology in pregnancy in sub-Saharan Africa. This study aimed to improve the care of pregnant women infected with hepatitis B virus (VHB) and their newborns in the urban district health. Method: This study was conducted from 01/09/2014 to 01/09/2015. Study involved three types of data collection: a collection of data from health facilities involved in the project;repeated cross-sectional survey among health personnel;a pros- pective study of pregnant women identified positive for HBsAg and followed at the university Hospital Yalgado Ouédraogo (CHU-YO). Knowledge assessment was made among health staff and pregnant women using a knowledge score. Construction of the score came after a factorial analysis of multiple correspondences on population health workers surveyed in the first round (N = 119) on one hand and all pregnant women (N = 266) on the other hand. This had identified among the 79/19 questions, those that discriminated best knowledge of paramedics and pregnant women. For pregnant women, this score was then dichotomized from the center and logistic regression was performed to determine the sociodemographic, medical and obstetric characteristics that influenced it (p value ice (N = 119/100). in general, the level of knowledge was good on targeted knowledge, both before and after training. No health worker routinely offered screening for hepatitis B among pregnant women attending antenatal clinics. Altogether 266 pregnant women HBsAg-positive were referred and followed CHU-YO. Half of the patients had a score lower than 2/17. Univariate analysis showed that variables such as education level influenced significantly the level of knowledge. Many fungi limit onion production in Burkina Faso. This study aims to identify the main Fusarium species associated with onion plant in field in order to determine those involved in seedling damping-off and bulb rot, and develop adequate management strategies of these diseases. For this purpose, 36 isolates of Fusarium were isolated from onion plants in 17 sites and subjected to molecular analysis and biometric characterization. The results revealed that the isolates belong to five Fusarium species: Fusarium oxysporum (44.44% of the isolates), Fusarium proliferatum (41.66%), Fusarium solani (5.55%), Fusarium fujikuroi (5.55%) and Fusarium thapsinum (2.77%). Fusarium oxysporum, F. proliferatum, F. solani and F. fujikuroi had faster mycelial development, with a growth rate of 7.72 - 8.27 mm/d, than F. thapsinum (6.52 mm/d). Conidia of F. oxysporum, F. proliferatum and F. solani were longer (4.74 - 5.96 μm) than those of F. fujikuroi and F. thapsinum (3.20 - 4.04 μm). Fusarium solani and F. oxysporum, respectively, had the largest and most partitioned conidia.

Objective: To study causes of maternal mortality according to reports of maternal death audits in the university Teaching Hospital Bogodogo (UTH-B) of ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Materials and Method: This was a prospective study that took place over a year from 1 January to 31 December 2017.? it concerned maternal deaths that occurred during this period in the obstetrics and gynecology department of the university Teaching Hospital Bogodogo (UTH-B). All maternal deaths were systematically audited by the audit committee;interviews with providers and families were sometimes conducted. The record books of all patients were analyzed by the audit committee;if necessary, interviews were conducted with care providers and families. The main information collected were recorded on individual files, entered and analyzed using the software Epi-info 7. Result: During the study period, we recorded 32 maternal deaths i.e., 587 per 100,000 live births. Deceased women under age 20 were the most numerous, followed by women aged 20 to 24. The death occurred in most cases in the puerperium in 69.80% of cases. Complications of pregnancy were the most incriminated causes in maternal deaths. Bleeding was the leading cause, accounting for 34.3%. They are followed by hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (21.8%) and infections (18.8%). in the contributing factors, resource factors were incriminated in 56.2% of cases, social factors in 43.7% of cases and medical factors in 25.4% of cases. Death was non-preventable in 76.2% of cases compared to 23.8% of preventable deaths. Conclusion: Maternal mortality is a major public health problem at the maternity hospital of the university hospital Yalgado Ouedraogo. Hemorrhage is the first cause of death. Hypertensive diseases are more and more worrying. Solutions must be found to improve the practice of audits in the obstetrics and gynecology department of UTH-B.

introduction: The HbsAg prevalence in Burkina Faso was 9.1%. We aimed at describing the therapeutic features and the clinical outcome for the patients taking antiretroviral treatment. Materials and Methods: We implemented a cross-sectional study from January 1st, 2004 to December 31st, 2015. Patients aged more than 15 years with positive hepatitis B surface antigen for over six months and positive hepatitis B e-antigen were included. Results: We analyzed the data of 148 participants for a sex ratio of 3;sixty-three patients including 49 men (77.8%) were on treatment. and 81.5% had inflammatory activity greater than one. Under tenofovir, the normalization of ALT was observed in 42 (84%) patients while HBV-DNA became undetectable in 24/33 patients. HBeAg negativation was observed in 16/25 (64%) patients after seven years of treatment. With lamivudine, 2/9 patients had a complete virologic response and six had a normalization of their ALT. Two and 9 patients lost HBeAg after 7 and 9 years of treatment, respectively. Overall 63% and 27% of the patients were in the high or low-adherence group, respectively. in the low-adherence group, all patients had normal or abnormal ALT, but detectable HBV DNA. Ten patients taking lamivudine developed resistance including primary resistance in three patients. No resistance has been observed with tenofovir. Conclusion: The management of the viral hepatitis B includes often a long follow up period without any medication. When antiviral is indicated, the adherence to the treatment is crucial to a long-term control of the virus. in our setting, the low purchase power of the patients may jeopardize their therapeutic future and there is a need to support this group of patients with free-of-charge medicines as it is provided for the HiV infected people.

Objective: The aim of this study is to screen chemical composition and to evaluate the acute general toxicity of leaves aqueous extracts from Sesbania pachycarpa DC. (Fabaceae), used in traditional medicine in Burkina Faso to treat malaria, helminthiasis, and aqueous extracts of the leaves from indigofera berhautiana Gillet (Fabaceae) used to treat hepatitis and typhoid fever. Methods: Aqueous decoction of leaves from Sesbania pachycarpa DC. or indigofera berhautiana Gillett which are the form of use recommended by traditional health practitioners, were used for tests. Aqueous extracts used to evaluate the acute toxicity, were studied on mice of strain NMRi. For the toxicity study, the doses of the aqueous extracts were respectively 5 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, 300 mg/kg and 2000 mg/kg of body weight. Phytochemical screening was done to identify the phytochemicals contained in extracts. Results: Aqueous extracts of two species: Sesbania pachycarpa DC., indigofera berhautiana Gillet were not toxic at the maximum dose of 2000 mg/kg of body weight. Phytochemical screening, showed coumarins, flavonoids, tannins, polyphenols compounds, steroids and/or triterpenes and saponosides in the aqueous extracts of the two species. Alkaloids were identified in Sesbania pachycarpa aqueous extract.

Objectives:Elevated circulating DNA(cirDNA)concentrations were found to be associated with trauma or tissue damage which suggests involvement of inflammation or cell death in post-operative cirDNA *** carried out the first prospective,multicenter study of the dynamics of cirDNA and neutrophil extracellular trap(NETs)markers during the perioperative period from 24 h before surgery up to 72 h after curative surgery in cancer ***:We examined the plasma levels of two NETs protein markers[myeloperoxidase(MPO)and neutrophil elastase(NE)],as well as levels of cirDNA of nuclear(cir-nDNA)and mitochondrial(cir-mtDNA)origin in 29 colon,prostate,and breast cancer patients and in 114 healthy individuals(Hi).Results:The synergistic analytical information provided by these markers revealed that:(i)NETs formation contributes to post-surgery conditions;(i)post-surgery cir-nDNA levels were highly associated with NE and MPO in colon cancer[r=0.60(Pivelyl,but not in prostate and breast cancer;(i)each tumor type shows a specific pattern of cir-nDNA and NETs marker dynamics,but overall the pre-and post-surgery median values of cir-nDNA,NE,and MPO were significantly higher in cancer patients than in ***:Taken as a whole,our work reveals the association of NETs formation with the elevated cir-nDNA release during a cancer patient's perioperative period,depending on surgical procedure or cancer *** contrast,cir-mtDNA is poorly associated with NETs formation in the studied perioperative period,which would appear to indicate a different mechanism of release or suggest mitochondrial dysfunction.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is one of the treatment options for breast cancer. its aim is to significantly reduce the size of the tumour in preparation for surgery. The aim of this work is to analyze the conditions of clinical and radiological evaluation of NAC at the Yalgado Ouédraogo university Hospital (CHUYO). Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study based on the medical records of patients followed up in the cancer department of the CHUYO from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2021. All patients followed for histologically proven, non-metastatic breast cancer and having received at least one course of NAC were included in this study. The variables were related to the socio-demographic characteristics of the patients, the indications, the protocols of NAC and the sequences of evaluation of the tumour response (clinical, radiological and anatomopathological). Results: We collected 105 cases. The average age of the patients concerned was 44 years. The most frequent histological type was non-specific invasive carcinoma in 97.1% of cases. immunohistochemically, triple-negative patients accounted for 51.4%. At the initial stage, all patients underwent clinical exploration. Clinical measurement of the tumour was performed in 70.5% of cases. The radiological size of the tumour was determined by ultrasound in 59.1% of cases. One patient had a breast MRi. Thirty-one patients were lost to follow-up after the initial evaluation. At mid-term and at the end of treatment, clinical tumour size was performed in 38.6% and 45.6% of cases respectively. There was no breast imaging performed at mid- and end-of-treatment. CT scans were performed in all cases at baseline, mid-term and end of treatment for extension assessment but did not mention the breast tumour. The tumour response rate was not recorded.
