Role of Glutathione S-Transferase (GSTM1 and GSTT1) Genes Deletion in Susceptibility to HiV-1 Disease Progression

Background: Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are multifunctional enzymes which play an important role in oxidative stress pathways by conjugation with glutathione. Oxidative stress is one of several risk factors that may be associated with many types of diseases progression such as cancer and infectious diseases. in this study, we investigated the association between the polymorphism of GSTM1 and GSTT1 genes and the risk of HiV-1 disease progression. Methods: We conducted a case-control study including 313 participants of Burkina Faso: 153 HiV-1 infected individuals on antiretroviral treatment (ART) and 160 HiV-1 negative individuals as controls. Presence or absence of the GSTM1 and GSTT1 genes was determined using multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR). CD4+ T counts and HiV-1 viral load were measured in patients using respectively BD FACSCount and Abbott m2000rt instruments. Results: Frequencies of GSTM1-null and GSTT1-null were 30.35% and 35.46% respectively and the frequency of double deletion GSTM1-null/GSTT1-null was 14.38% in the general study population. GSTM1-null (30.35% versus 69.65%;OR = 1.90;p = 0.010), GSTT1-null (35.46% versus 64.54%;OR = 3.11;p GSTM1-active/GSTT1-null (21.08% versus 48.56%;OR = 3.17;p GSTM1-null/GSTT1-null (14.38% versus 48.56%;OR = 4.46;p GSTM1-null and GSTM1-null/GSTT1-null were associated with increased odds of low CD4+ count (3) and high HiV-1 viral load (≥1000 copies/mL). Conclusion: GSTM1-null, GSTT1-null genotype, the double genotypes GSTM1-active/GSTT1-null and GSTM1-null/GSTT1-null were associated with HiV-1 disease progression and GSTM1-null and GSTM1- null/GSTT1-null genotypes were associated with low CD4+ T cells counts and high HiV-1 viral load in HiV-1infected patients on ART.

Peanut is a worldwide oilseed crop and the need to assess germplasm in a non-destructive manner is important for seed nutritional *** this study,Near infrared Spectroscopy(NiRS)was applied to rapidly assess germplasm variability from whole seed of 699 samples,field-collected and assembled in four genetic and environmentbased sets:one set of 300 varieties of a core-collection and three sets of 133 genotypes of an interspecific population,evaluated in three environments in a large spatial scale of two countries,Mbalmayo and Bafia in Cameroon and Nioro in Senegal,under rainfed *** elemental spectra were gathered on six subsets of seeds of each sample,after three rotation scans,with a spectral resolution of 16 cm-1over the spectral range of867 nm to 2530 *** were then processed by principal component analysis(PCA)coupled with Partial least squares-discriminant analysis(PLS-DA).As results,a huge variability was found between varieties and genotypes for all NiR wavelength within and between *** magnitude of genetic variation was particularly observed at 11 relevant wavelengths such as 1723 nm,usually related to oil content and fatty acid *** yielded the most chemical attributes in three significant PCs(i.e.,eigenvalues>10),which together captured 93%of the total variation,revealing genetic and environment structure of varieties and genotypes into four clusters,corresponding to the four samples *** pattern of genetic variability of the interspecific population covers,remarkably half of spectrum of the core-collection,turning out to be the ***,a PLS-DA model was developed and a strong accuracy of 99.6%was achieved for the four sets,aiming to classify each seed sample according to environment *** confusion matrix achieved for the two sets of Bafia and Nioro showed 100%of instances classified correctly with 100%at both sensitivity and specificity,confirming that their seed quality was different f

Fabrication and Thermal Conductivity improvement of Novel Composite Adsorbents adding with Nanoparticles

Thermal conductivity is one of key parameters of adsorbents, which will affect the overall system performance of adsorption chiller. To improve adsorbent＇s thermal conductivity is always one of research focuses in chemisorption field. A new chemical composite adsorbent is fabricated by adding carbon coated metal（Aluminum and Nickel） nanoparticles with three different addition amounts into the mixture of chloride salts and natural expanded graphite aiming to improve the thermal conductivity. The preparation processes and its thermal conductivity of this novel composite adsorbent are reported and summarized. Experimental results indicate that the nanoparticles are homogenously dispersed in the composite adsorbent by applying the reported preparation processes. The thermal conductivity of the composite adsorbent can averagely enlarge by 20% when the weight ratio of the added nanoparticles is 10 wt%. Moreover, carbon coated aluminum nanoparticles exhibit more effective enlargement in thermal conductivity than nickel nanoparticles. As for the composite adsorbent of CaCl2-NEG, there is a big reinforcement from 30% to 50% for Al@C nanoparticles, however only 10% in maximum caused by Ni@C nanoparticles. The proposed research provides a methodology to design and prepare thermal conductive chemical composite adsorbent.

Diabetes mellitus is a socially significant disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and metabolic disorders of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids due to reduced function of insulin. Medicinal plants, rich in bioactive components that promote prevention and treatment, are inexpensive and no side effects. i>Apium graveolensi>, i>Cleome gynandrai>, and i>Hibiscus sabdariffai> from Burkina Faso were investigated for their phytochemical profile and antioxidant activities. The high-performance thin-layer chromatography profile revealed flavonoids, tannins, and sterols in these herbaceous. The i>Hibiscus sabdariffai> methanolic extract exhibited the highest total phenolic (138.4 ± 0.5 mg GAE/g DW) and flavonoid (52.8 ± 0.6 mg RuE/g DW) contents comparatively to i>Cleome gynandrai> and i>Apium graveolensi>. i>Hibiscus sabdariffai> methanolic extract also presented the highest antioxidant activity (iC50 = 0.31 ± 0.002 mg/mL) using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging capacity assay. A high correlation between flavonoid contents and hydrophilic antioxidant activities (r = 0.99) was observed, indicating that flavonoids contribute significatively to these herbaceous antioxidant properties. i>Apium graveolensi>, i>Cleome gynandra, and i>Hibiscus sabdariffai> constitute a natural source of phenolic compounds that could be exploited in diabetes mellitus management.i>

introduction: The assessment of health care needs must be reproducible, independent of the operator, hence the use of indexes like the index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (iOTN). The aim of this study was to assess both, the prevalence of malocclusions among patients received in the Dental Surgery Unitat Yalgado Ouédraogo Teaching Hospital and their care needs according to iOTN index. Materials and Methods: it is a prospective, cross-cutting diagnostic study of malocclusions at Yalgado Ouédraogo Teaching Hospital (CHUYO), conducted from January 1 to December 31, 2016. The examiner with an examination tray records on the 12- to 16-year-old patients’ medical recorded, the variables based on the polychromatic pictures series, the iOTN rule, and the dental health component table. Results: On the whole, 81 patients were included, with 60.5% of girls and 39.5% of boys. 16- and 12-year-old patients were dominant. The average age was 14.05 years old. Various types of malocclusions were encountered. The need for orthodontic care was 56.8%. For 14 patients, 17.28%, their aesthetic component score is higher than the assessment made by the orthodontist. Conclusion: Aesthetics was an important factor in the need for orthodontic care. The aesthetic deficit entails a psychological impact that should be taken into account in the assessment of care needs.

Origin and intraplate tectonic setting of mafic magmatic enclaves from the Ngaoundal area,Adamawa-Cameroon:insights from petrography and geochemistry

in this contribution,detailed field descriptions together with petrographic and bulk-rock major,trace and rare earth elements(REE)data are used to constrain the origin and geodynamic setting of the mafic magmatic enclaves(MMEs)recently discovered within the Pan-African Ngaoundal pluton,Adamawa area,central *** investigated MMEs are dark-colored with chilled margins,and display medium to coarse-grain igneous *** mineral assemblage is either dominated by K-feldspar and carbonate(group Ⅰ),or by amphibole and plagioclase(group Ⅱ),though the overall mineral phases made of amphibole,plagioclase,K-feldspar,and biotite are similar to that of their host syenite but in different *** MMEs in Ngaoundal area are foid-gabbro in composition with SiO_(2) contents ranging between 41.52% and 43.74% and are contiguous with their host granitoids of intermediate composition(SiO_(2)=57.52% to 58.98%).The host granitoid rocks are metaluminous,and belong to the shoshonitic *** and geochemical data have revealed that the Ngaoundal MMEs derived from rapid cooling of hot injected lithospheric mantle-derived magma within cooler host granitoids magma and were emplaced in the intraplate geodynamic setting.
