Are urbanization, biotic and social factors associated with the song frequency and song entropy attributes of three urban syntopic passerines?

Urban environments have challenging characteristics for bird acoustic communication. High levels of anthropogenic noise, as well as vegetation structure(e.g., in urban parks), can potentially affect the song frequency characteristics of several bird species. An additional factor such as the abundance of conspecific and heterospecific vocalizing birds may play an important role in determining the structure of bird songs. In this study, we analyzed whether noise levels, vegetation percentage, and abundance of conspecifics and heterospecifics influence the song characteristics of three syntopic songbird species: House Finch(Haemorhous mexicanus), Rufouscollared Sparrow(Zonotrichia capensis), and House Sparrow(Passer domesticus) living in urban sites. We recorded songs of these species and measured the peak frequency and entropy of their songs at 14 sites in the city of San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. We found that the song peak frequency of House Finch and House Sparrow's songs was negatively related to the vegetation. The peak frequency of neither of the three species correlated with the average noise level. However, the abundances of conspecific and heterospecific were related to the peak frequency of the three species' songs. The entropy of the House Finch and House Sparrow songs was positively and negatively related, respectively, to noise levels. House Sparrow song entropy was negatively related to the percentage of vegetation. Song entropy of House Finches was negatively associated to conspecific and House Sparrow abundance. Song entropy of Rufous-collared Sparrows was positively related to conspecific abundance. In conclusion, the song peak frequency and song entropy of the three songbird species were differentially related to urban noise, vegetation, and conspecific and heterospecific abundance, suggesting these factors influence bird song characteristics.

Food Allergy Mimicking Pylorus Hypertrophy

Food allergy (FA) is a disease with increasing prevalence and a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations. These include the eosinophilic disorders, which can involve any segment of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), including the stomach. In this context, three patients with a confirmed diagnosis of food allergy, who were initially diagnosed with pyloric hypertrophy, are presented. All cases showed an adequate response to nutritional management. It is essential to consider food allergy, such as eosinophilic gastroenteritis, as part of the differential diagnosis of gastric outlet obstruction in those patients who present vomiting secondary to pyloric hypertrophy.

A new species of Atelopus(Amphibia:Bufonidae)from eastern Panama

A new species of the genus Atelopus,Atelopus fronterizo ***.,from eastern Panama is described herein based on molecular,morphological,and bioacoustic *** new species can be distinguished from its congeners occurring in the region by a combination of the following characters:(1)phalangeal reduction in thumb;(2)SVL(females only)(35.1-50.1;n=13),HW/SVL(0.23-0.34;n=59),EYND/HW(0.27-0.39;n=60),TIBL/SVL(0.41-0.56;n=58),and HAL/SVL(0.22-0.28;n=49);(3)dorsal color pattern with green or yellow background and extensive dark olive blotches forming transversal bands or mottling;(4)advertisement call duration 176-235 ms with 19-34 pulses,average pulse rate 131.69 pulses/s,and dominant frequency 2422.50-2606.50 *** new species is nested within the Central American clade of *** minimum Kimura‐2‐parameter(K2P)genetic divergence between Atelopus fronterizo *** its most phylogenetically similar congeners(*** and ***)is>2.6%for 16S and>4.9%for COI(Table 1).The phylogenetic relationship is strongly supported by ultrafast bootstrap values for the maximum-likelihood trees of both genetic markers(16S,96;COI,100,Figure 1A).Bayesian analysis of the concatenated sequences resulted in a tree with similar topology and high posterior probability support(0.99;Supplementary Figure S1).In addition,haplotype networks inferred from COI and 16S(Supplementary Figure S2)showed a well-separated clade containing the new species(two for COI,four for 16S).

The marine Jurassic of Argentina： a biostratigraphic framework

In Argentina the best and most complete marine Juras- sic succession is exposed between 32° and 39° S, along a N-S belt roughly coincident with the border with Chile. Here all stages, except the Kimmeridgian, are represented by marine facies. Ammonites have provided a biostratigraphic framework to date and correlate lithostratigraphic units and sequences, to reconstruct the history of the marine fill, and allow the development of other palaeontological and geological studies. Recent studies on the systematics and/or biostratigra- phy of Andean ammonites have provided the basis for the presentation of a summary of the 45 ammonite zones of the Jurassic of west-central Argentina and to stress its significance in reconstructing the palaeogeographic evolution of that region.

Nursing Students’ Notions about Palliative Care Bogota D.C. 2016

Training in palliative care is a necessity for health care systems. Nursing education should guarantee the development of basic skills in this field of health care. The objective of the study is to explore the notions about palliative care of a group of students from a nursing institute, in the light of the skills established by the Colombian Network of Education in Palliative Care. The method used is a qualitative one, using the analysis of narratives as a research tool in the classroom. The results allow us to infer that the students rely on notions about palliative care in some subject areas, without being able to consolidate an understanding that allows the integral intervention in people with palliative needs. It is necessary to reinforce the training process for symptom control, spirituality, and the organization of palliative care within the health care system.

AIM:To describe the distribution of refractive errors by age and sex among schoolchildren in Soacha,***:This was an observational cross-sectional study conducted in five urban public schools in the municipality of Soacha.A total of 1161 school-aged and pre-adolescent children,aged 5-12y were examined during the school year *** included visual acuity and static *** equivalent(SE)was analysed as follows:myopia SE≤-0.50 D and uncorrected visual acuity of 20/25 or worse;high myopia SE≤-6.00 D;hyperopia SE≥+1.00 D(≥7y)or SE≥+2.00 D(5-6y);significant hyperopia SE≥+3.00 *** was defined as a cylinder in at least one eye≥1.00 D(≥7y)or≥1.75 D(5-6y).If at least one eye was ametropic,children were classified according to the refractive error ***:Of the 1139 schoolchildren included,50.6%were male,58.8%were aged between 5 and 9y,and 12.1%were already using optical *** most common refractive error was astigmatism(31.1%),followed by myopia(20.8%)and hyperopia(13.1%).There was no significant relationship between refractive error and *** was a significant increase in astigmatism(P<0.001)and myopia(P<0.0001)with ***:Astigmatism is the most common refractive error in children in an urban area of *** decreased and myopia increased with age.

Leiomyosarcoma of the ovary is a rare disease, with aggressive behavior and poor prognosis, which mainly occurs in postmenopausal women. Surgery is the cornerstone of treatment, while the role of chemotherapy and radiotherapy is still not clear because substantial data is lacking. This paper presents the case of an adult woman who is diagnosed with primary leiomyosarcoma of the left ovary, and who receives a surgical approach and adjuvant treatment with chemotherapy currently achieving 20 months free from disease.

The off-crust origin of granite batholiths

Granitod batholiths of I-type features （mostly granodiorites and tonalites）, and particularly those forming the large plutonic associations of active continental margins and intracontinental collisional belts, represent the most outstanding magmatic episodes occurred in the continental crust. The origin of magmas, however, remains controversial. The application of principles from phase equilibria is crucial to understand the problem of granitoid magma generation. An adequate comparison between rock com- positions and experimental liquids has been addressed by using a projected compositional space in the plane F（Fe ＋ Mg）-Anorthite-Orthoclase. Many calc-alkaline granitoid trends can be considered cotectic liquids. Assimilation of country rocks and other not-cotectic processes are identified in the projected diagram. The identification of cotectic patterns in batholith implies high temperatures of magma segregation and fractionation （or partial melting） from an intermediate （andesitic） source. The com- parison of batholiths with lower crust granulites, in terms of major-element geochemistry, yields that both represent liquids and solid residues respectively from a common andesitic system. This is compatible with magmas being formed by melting, and eventual reaction with the peridotite mantle, of subducted mOlanges that are finally relaminated as magmas to the lower crust. Thus, the off-crust generation of granitoids batholiths constitutes a new paradigm in which important geological implica- tions can be satisfactorily explained. Geochemical features of Cordilleran-type batholiths are totally compatible with this new conception.

In this review we study the nuclear pastas as they are expected to be formed in neutron star *** start with a study of the pastas formed in nuclear matter(composed of protons and neutrons),we follow with the role of the electron gas on the formation of pastas,and we then investigate the pastas in neutron star matter(nuclear matter embedded in an electron gas).Nuclear matter(NM)at intermediate temperatures(1 MeV≤T≤***),at saturation and and sub-saturation densities,and with proton content ranging from 30%to 50%was found to have liquid,gaseous and liquid-gas mixed *** isospin-dependent phase diagram was obtained along with the critical points,and the symmetry energy was calculated and compared to experimental data and other *** low temperatures(T≤1 MeV)NM produces crystal-like structures around satura-tion densities,and pasta-like structures at sub-saturation *** of the pasta structures were studied with cluster-recognition algorithms,caloric curve,the radial distribution function,the Lindemann coefficient,Kolmogorov statistics,Minkowski functionals;the symmetry energy of the pasta showed a connection with its *** star matter(NSM)is nuclear matter embedded in an electron *** electron gas is included in the calculation by the inclusion of an screened Coulomb *** connect the NM pastas with those in neutron star matter(NSM),the role the strength and screening length of the Coulomb interaction have on the formation of the pastas in NM was *** was found to exist even without the presence of the electron gas,but the effect of the Coulomb interaction is to form more defined pasta structures,among other ***,it was determined that there is a minimal screening length for the developed structures to be independent of the cell *** star matter was found to have similar phases as NM,phase transitions,symmetry energy,structure function and thermal *** in NM,pasta f
