Hydropeaking,which refers to rising or falling discharges caused by the turning on or off of hydro-turbines to generate electricity,is a topic of growing interest due to its impact on fluvial *** date,most hydropeaking studies have focused on the impact of peak fluctuations on invertebrate and fish communities,but little attention has been paid to its impact on riverine plants and how functional traits may make them resistant to *** performed a review to assess how a set of 32 plant functional traits can be expressed in riverine plant species,and found evidence of how such expression affects their capacity to cope with common sources of hydropeaking disturbance(i.e.,inundation,fast water drawdown,and rapid water fluctuations linked to up-ramping and down-ramping hydropeaking operations).The information here presented can simplify the evaluation of impacts on riverine plant communities worldwide,as well as to detect suitable species to successfully restore rivers affected by hydropower production.

El Soplao outcrop, an Early Cretaceous amber deposit recently discovered in northern spain （Cantabria）, has been shown to be the largest site of amber with arthropod inclusions that has been found in spain so far. Relevant data provided herein for biogeochemistry of the amber, palynology, taphonomy and arthropod bioinclusions complement those previously published. This set of data suggests at least two botanical sources for the amber of El Soplao deposit. The first （type A amber） strongly supports a source related to Cheirolepidiaceae, and the second （type B amber） shows non-specific conifer biomarkers. Comparison of molecular composition of type A amber with Frenelopsis leaves （Cheirolepidiaceae） strongly suggests a biochemical affinity and a common botanical origin. A preliminary palynological study indicates a regional high taxonomical diversity, mainly of pteridophyte spores and gymnosperm pollen grains. According to the preliminary palynological data, the region was inhabited by conifer forests adapted to a dry season under a subtropical climate. The abundant charcoalified wood associated with the amber in the same beds is evidence of paleofires that most likely promoted both the resin production and an intensive erosion of the litter, and subsequent great accumulation of amber plus plant cuticles. In addition, for the first time in the fossil record, charcoalified plant fibers as bioinclnsions in amber are reported. Other relevant taphonomic data are the exceptional presence of serpulids and bryozoans on the surfaces of some amber pieces indicating both a long exposure on marine or brackish-water and a mixed assemblage of amber. Lastly, new findings of insect bioiuclusions, some of them uncommon in the fossil record or showing remarkable adaptations, are reported. In conclusion, a documented scenario for the origin of the El Soplao amber outcrop is provided.

The structural phase transition in Ta-NiSes has been envisioned as driven by the formation of an excitonic insulating ***,the role of structural and electronic instabilities on crystal symmetry breaking has yet to be ***,the phase transition in its complementary material Ta_(2)NiS_(5)does not show any experimental hints of an excitonic insulating *** present a microscopic investigation of the electronic and phononic effects involved in the structural phase transition in Ta_(2)NiSe_(5)and Ta-Niss using extensive first-principles *** both materials the crystal symmetries are broken by phonon instabilities,which in tum lead to changes in the electronic bandstructure also observed in the experiment.A total energy landscape analysis shows no tendency towards a purely electronic instability and we find that a sizeable lattice distortion is needed to open a *** conclude that an excitonic instability is not needed to explain the phase transition in both Ta_(2)NiSe_(5)and Ta_(2)NiS_(5).

In a commercialized and fragment media market where crisis and humanitarian interventions are big news that sells, how do politicians and the public respond to them？ Bearing in mind that immigration is a phenomenon with a growing presence in society and increasingly politicized, this paper explores an important and persistent question regarding the role of news media in affecting policy decisions, particularly during times of crisis （Paletz, 1998）, transference of the issue and the media frames occurs. Having taken into account the agenda building paradigm and the concept of flame （Entman, 1993; Snow ＆ Benford, 1988）, the topic of immigration is analyzed in the Spanish main newspapers （El pais ＆ El Mundo） and in the political interventions （Parliamentary Debates）. In order to implement this extraction and framing analysis, the associative method is adopted. The assaults of Ceuta and Melilla （2005） and the Canarias crisis （2006） are taken as the cases of study. The findings of this research highlight that moments of humanitarian crisis and key newsworthy events related to African immigrants increase the media＇s power to introduce the issue of immigration and to have influence on the frames used in the political and public agenda.

Having cholesterol in our body is essential for living healthy,but too much can lead to serious health problems,including-but not limited to-heart attacks and strokes(1).Indeed,accumulating evidence points to cholesterol as a cancer risk factor especially in colon,rectal,prostatic and testicular cancer(2).Cholesterol is the most abundant sterol in animal tissues with many important functions that spans from simply maintaining cell membrane physical properties to the production of bile acids and biosynthesis of steroid *** the most part,cholesterol is synthetised de novo in the liver,but some is obtained from dietary *** synthesis of cholesterol takes place in the cytoplasm and the endoplasmic reticulum(ER)of hepatocytes(the major liver cell types)and starts with one molecule of acetyl-CoA.

This work describes the construction and the evaluation of the general performance of new ampicilli-nate-selective electrodes based on manganese (III) tetraphenylporphyrin [Mn(III) TPP-Cl] as ionophore, incorporated in both PVC and sol-gel membranes and directly applied onto a conductive graphite/epoxy resin support. The units were constructed without inner reference solution adopting conventional configuration and in the case of PVC membrane the tubular configuration was also adopted. The good working characteristics of these electrodes, made possible its application to the determination of ampicillin in pharmaceuticals formulations, both in conventional batch analysis and in flow conditions, when the electrodes were coupled to a SIA system. In the last case the potentiometric sensors presented linear response towards ampicillin concentration between 5.0 × 10–4 and 5.0 × 10–2 mol?l–1 with slopes of –57.4 and –63.5 mV?dec–1 for the PVC and sol-gel membranes, respectively. The developed procedures enable mean relative standard deviations better than 3% for all the samples analysed. The obtained results do not statistically differ from those furnished by applying the HPLC reference method.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC),the most common type of pancreatic tumor,is a highly aggressive human cancer with the lowest five-year survival rate of any human maligancy primarily due to its earlymetastasis and lack of response to chemotherapy and *** research suggests that PDAC cells comprise a hierarchy of tumor cells that develop around a population of cancer stem cells(CSCs),a small and distinct population of cancer cells that mediates tumoregenesis,metastasis and resistance to standard ***,CSCs could be a target for more effective treatment ***,pancreatic CSCs are subject to regulation by some of key embryonic stem cell(ESC)transctiption factors abberently expressed in PDAC,such as SOX2,OCT4 and *** transcription factors are important DNA-binding proteins present in both embryonic and adult somatic *** critical role of these factors in reprogramming processes makes them essential not only for embryonic development but also *** we provide an overview of stem cell transcription factors,particularly SOX2,OCT4,and NANOG,on their expression and function in pancreatic *** contrast to embryonic stem cells,in which OCT4 and SOX2 are tightly regulated and physically interact to regulate a wide spectrum of target genes,de novo SOX2 expression alone in pancreatic cancer cells is sufficient to promote self-renewal,dedifferentiation and imparting stemness characteristics via impacting specific cell cycle regulatory genes and epithelial-mesnechymal transtion driver ***,targeting ESC factors,particularly SOX2,could be a worthy strategy for pancreatic cancer therapy.
