Commercially Important Marine Mollusks for Human Consumption in Acapulco,Mex.co

Acapulco, offers for international tourism a variety of mollusks that are delightful to the palate and a source of economic revenue for its residents;however there are no studies on the species consumed. Furthermore, data from the State agencies responsible for registration of these products are unclear. This work is aimed to develop an inventory of Gastropoda, Bivalvia and Polyplacophora marketed as food, to gain knowledge on the species native to Acapulco and the introduced ones. The places that sell shellfish were interviewed from 2008 to 2011 in order to determine the geographical origin of their products being offered. We identified 42 species: 15 species of gastropods are captured locally and three are introduced. On Bivalvia, seven species are caught locally and 16 are introduced. There are Bivalvia species caught locally;however, their capture is now unaffordable. It is likely that this situation is due to overfishing and/or the transmission of diseases or parasites caused by the introduction of foreign living organisms to Acapulco. Within the list of species caught locally, there are some listed as of subject protection;all of these organisms are ex.loited in Acapulco without control. The wealth of marine mollusks for human consumption in Acapulco is very high. The capture does not satisfy local market demand and the amount of introduced species is very high. It is necessary to make a diagnostic analysis of mollusk fishing industry in the state of Guerrero, also implement a management program, including the sanitary measures and control of introduced species, as they arrive alive and stay alive in the waters of Acapulco. A significant number of native species that have aquaculture potential should be studied for commercial culture practice as well as to conduct studies on their biology on those species that are considered over-ex.loited and allow recovery of the species in its habitat.

Prevalence and Drug-Resistance Patterns of Enterotox.genic Escherichia coli and Shigella Species among Children with Diarrhea in Merida City, Mex.co

Enterotox.genic Escherichia coli (ETEC) and Shigella are two of the leading causes of diarrhea among children in developing countries. The prevalence of ETEC and Shigella species resistant to antimicrobial agents is increasing. The aim of this study was to determine prevalence and antimicrobial resistance patterns of ETEC and Shigella species among under-five children with diarrhea in an urban region of southeastern Mex.co. A cross-sectional study was conducted among under-five children with acute diarrhea from January 2013 to January 2014 at Merida city. Isolation, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility test of ETEC and Shigella species were performed using standard bacteriological protocols. Of 200 stool samples collected, 18 (9.0%) ETEC and 12 (6.0%) Shigella strains were isolated. Among 12 Shigella species Shigellaflex.eri founded as 8 (66.7%), followed by Shigellaboydii 4 (33.3%). One hundred percent of ETEC and Shigella isolates showed resistance to ampicillin, carbenicillin and cephalothin. Also, high frequency of resistance for both ETEC and Shigella isolates was observed to nitrofurantoin (100%, 83.3%), respectively. However, when we analyzed the resistance patterns of Shigella by species, S. boydii showed more resistance (8 of 12 antimicrobials tested) in comparison to S. flex.eri isolates. Multidrug resistance (MDR) (≥3 drugs) was observed among all ETEC and Shigella isolates, being the aminoglycosides the more effective drugs against these pathogens. In conclusion, these findings indicate that ETEC and Shigella spp. are important etiological agents of diarrhea among under-five children and a high rate of drug resistance, including MDR, to the commonly used drugs was observed in our region.

Investigation of Chemical Bath Deposition of ZnO Nanocrystals Thin Films Using Different ZnNO3 Concentration

In this work, thin films growth at different ZnNO3 concentrations: 0.02 M, 0.03 M and 0.04 M by chemical bath deposition (CBD) as-prepared on glass substrates at 80 °C ± 2 °C. Patterns Diffraction x.ray (DRx. shown peaks 2θ = (31.72, 32.769, 34.36, 36.10, 47.44, 56.52, 62.78, 67.84 and 69.02), at concentration 0.02 M show formation from hydrozincite [Zn5(CO3)2(OH)6]. The optical band gap shifts from 3.8 eV to 3.6 eV. Photoluminescence (PL) spectra show intensity variation of the green emission (GE) may be resulted from variation of the intrinsic defect in ZnO films, such zinc vacancy (VZn), ox.gen vacancy (VO), and interstitial zinc (Zni), interstitial ox.gen (Oi). The presence of defects in our samples is responsible for the observed broad visible PL bands; this indicates reductions of ox.gen vacancies and increase of ox.gen interstitials. It could be believed that the presence of defects in samples is responsible for the observed broad visible PL band. The concentration increased the visible defect luminescence, which might be due to improvement to sample stoichiometric. The presence of both green emission (GE) and yellow emission (YE) can be seen through the deconvolution of the defect increasing the concentration, the position of the GE shifted from 1.96-2.45 eV and the increase of its intensity. The shifts of these two visible PL bands might be due to changes in local environments of the defects centers in samples due to increased concentration. Therefore, the GE relate to donor levels dominated due to increase of ox.gen vacancies. ZnO is an n-type semiconductor and it means that most defects are Zn interstitials and ox.gen vacancies. Raman spectra showed increase of the 437 cm-1 (E2 mode) peak intensity due concentration 0.4 M.

Agave salmiana ash and poultry eggshell powder as CaO sources were used for obtaining nanostructured hydro-x.apatite(HAP).The synthesis was carried out by the Green Chemistry Hydrothermal Biosynthesis at 180℃ with a pH of 5,by reacting CaO from Agave Salmiana ash and Eggshell powder,with dibasic caldium phosphate(CaH-PO_(4)+2H_(2)O)in an aqueous solution,with Aloe barbadensis *** product was characterized by x.ray dif-fraction,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),and Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM).The size and shape of the hydrox.apatite particles changed dramati-cally in the presence of Aloe *** crystals of Hydrox.apatite were observed when Eggshell powder and Agave salmiana ash were used as raw materials in the presence of the Aloe barbadensis *** with shapes of ribbons and plates from 1 micrometers to 8 micrometers were observed when using the eggshell powder in the presence of Aloe bar badensis and,in the case of Agave salmiana ash in the presence of Aloe bar-badensis,crystals with shapes of quadra ngular prisms and hex.gonal(polyhedra)with sizes from 2 micrometers to 20 micrometers were *** was therefore successfully biosynthesized by a green and sus-tainable method that reduces the environmental impact.

In recent years,the small pelagic fishery on the Pacific northwest coast of Mex.co has significantly increased fishing pressure on thread herring Opisthonema *** fishery is regulated using a precautionary approach(acceptable biological catch(ABC)and minimum catch size).However,due to fishing dynamics,fish aggregation habits and increased fishing mortality,periodic biomass assessments are necessary to estimate ABC and assess the resource *** Catch-MSY approach was used to analyze historical series of thread herring catches off the western Baja California Sur(BCS,1981–2018)and the Gulf of California(GC,1972–2018)to estimate ex.loitable biomass and target reference points in order to obtain catch *** to the results,in GC,the max.mum biomass reached in 1972(at the beginning of fishery)and minimum biomass reached in 2015;the estimated ex.loitable biomass for 2019 was 42.2×10^(4) t;and the max.mum sustainable yield(MSY)was 15.4×10^(4) *** the western BCS coast,the max.mum biomass was reached in 1981(at the beginning of fishery)and minimum biomass was reached in 2017;the estimated ex.loitable biomass for 2019 was 3.2×10^(4) t;and the MSY was 1.2×10^(4) *** stocks showed a decrease in biomass over the past years and were currently near to point of full *** results suggest that the use of the Catch-MSY method is suitable to obtain annual biomass estimates,in order to establish an ABC,to know the current state of the resource,and to avoid overcoming the potential recovery of the stocks.

This study is a contribution to the behavior of the corrosion process of steel by carbon diox.de (CO2) and the formation the FeCO3 (siderite) by using both weight loss and electrochemical techniques when the material is ex.osed to a CO2 saturated 3% NaCl solution at 50 °C. The study included the analysis of an imidazoline based inhibitor which was relevant in the process of mitigating the carbonate layer formation. The test was elapsed during 336 h in an electrochemical cell where several EIS studies were performed along the test to characterize the iron carbonate layer formation as well as the role of the corrosion inhibitor. Post test SEM and x.Ray Diffraction studies on coupon materials revealed the iron carbonate layer characteristics, as well as the role of the inhibitor in the control of the layer formation.

Dispersion of niquel on the microstructure in magnesium based alloys for hydrogen storage

Mg–x.t.%Ni(x.5 and 20)alloys have been prepared by mechanical alloying using milling times of 15 and 30 h in a planetary ball milling to know the effects of magnesium with the addition of Ni as catalyst,dispersion on the microstructure,area surface and the efficiency of hydrogen ***-EDS,x.D and ImageJ^(■)software have been used to characterize the microstructure and chemical composition of the *** ex.eriments were performed as batch-type tests at 200,250 and 300℃ under 2 MPa H2 pressure during 30 *** ex.eriments resulted in varying amounts of MgH2 in the hydrided powders depending on composition and hydriding *** best results point to an optimum Ni dispersion,which in turn depends on Ni content and milling time.
