Effects of Co-Existing Ions on the Phosphorus Potassium Ratio of the Precipitate Formed in the Potassium Phosphate Crystallization Process

Livestock wastewater is mainly treated with activated sludge, but ions such as phosphorus, potassium, ammonium, nitrate and sulfate remain in the effluent. In this study, the effects of residual ions on phosphorus recovery using the magnesium potassium phosphate crystallization method were investigated when magnesium was added to increase the pH. If co-existing ions affect the products, the phosphorus to potassium molar ratio (K/P ratio) of the precipitate will deviate from being equimolar. Artificial wastewater test solutions containing 5.6 - 20.3 mM ammonium, 25.6 mM potassium, 6.5 mM phosphorus, 0 - 7.35 mM nitrate, and 0 - 3.06 mM sulfate were used. First, the optimum operating pH and amount of magnesium added to give a high phosphorus removal rate and recovery rate were determined. The experimental setup was a 10 L aerated and stirred reactor, and a 5 L settling tank. The K/P ratio in precipitate was approximately 1 using the optimum conditions. Continuous 2 h treatment allowed a white precipitate containing about 30 g of needle-like crystals to be obtained. Next, the effects of varying the ammonium, nitrate, and sulfate ion concentrations in the artificial effluent were investigated. Ammonium and sulfate ion concentrations of 8 mM or more and 3 mM or more, respectively, caused the K/P ratio to decrease to about 0.7 and 0.5, respectively. Varying the nitrate concentration did not affect the K/P ratio, even at a nitrate concentration of 7.35 mM.

The size effect can be attributed to the relative importance of growth options versus assets-in-place in total *** incorporating the changing trend of growth options over firm lifecycle into the dynamic investment model developed by Berk et al.(1999)。this paper demonstrates that the gradual exhausting or exercising of growth options would cause a downward pattern of size effect over firm lifecycle,while new growth options created by R&D or innovative investments can intensify size *** a sample of listed firms in USA stock market during the period of 1963-2018,both cross-sectional evidence on individual stocks and time-series evidence on portfolios analysis support theoretical preditions well,and empirical findings are robust for different methodologies,different measures of the exerci sing/creating of growth options,and for China's stock market.

Anti-tumor Effect and Mechanism of SEA-Fab’ Coupled Protein on Gastric Tumor

Summary： The anti-tumor effect and mechanism of SEA-Fab＇ coupled protein on gastric tumor was studied. The target cell Walke-256 was treated with SEA-Fab＇ synthesized chemically or SEA respectively for 24 h, 36 h or 72 h. PBMC＋Walke-256 cells served as controls. The apoptotic index of SEA-Fab＇ against effector cells was detected. In the mouse gastric cancer models （n=60）, SEA-Fab＇, SEA and normal saline was injected in experimental group, SEA group and control group respectively. The occurrence and weight of tumor was observed. The results showed that the apoptotic index was significantly higher in the SEA-Fab＇（34.6 -68.9%） and SEA group （15.5-31.9%） than in PBMC＋Walker-256 group （5.5%-12.8%） with the difference being significant （P〈0.01）. And there was significant difference between SEA-Fab＇ group and SEA group （P〈0.01）. The tumor weight in SEA-Fab＇, SEA and control groups was 3.6±0.53 g, 0. 78±0. 26 g and 0.49±0. 17 g respectively with the difference being statistically significant between the SEA-Fab＇ group, SEA group and the control group （P〈0.01）. In the SEA-Fab＇s and SEA groups, there were CD4^＋ T and CD8^＋ T cell infiltrates, but in the cotnrol group, no or few T lymphocytes were seen in the mouse tumor tissue. It was concluded that SEA-Fab＇ was more effective to activate T lymphocytes to kill the tumor cells than SEA used alone. It was feasibility by using the monoclonal antibody as carrier to perform the targeted Immunotherapy of gatric tumor.

Vaginal Birth after One Caesarean Section—Ten Years Experience in a South Eastern Nigerian Hospital

Background: The rising caesarean section rate worldwide is an increasing source of concern to all. A significant contributor to this is a previous caesarean delivery. One strategy in the armamentarium of obstetricians for reducing this is vaginal birth after one caesarean section (VBAC). The safety, outcome and complications of this procedure in our Center which is in a developing country had never been studied hence the need for this work. Aim: To find out the outcome and complications of vaginal births after one caesarean delivery in our Center. Method: A retrospective study involving a ten-year review of all cases of trials of labour after one caesarean delivery in our Center was done. Result: Of the 305 trials of labour after one caesarean delivery, 221 women had vaginal birth giving a vaginal birth after one caesarean section rate of 72.5%. Majority of the babies 303 (99.2%) were alive and had good Apgar scores while 2 (0.7%) died giving a perinatal mortality rate of 7 per 1000 babies. There were complications in 21 (6.7%) of the women with retained placenta, in 7 (2.3%) of the women as the commonest, followed by postpartum haemorrhage in 6 (1.96%). Five (1.62%) women had scar dehiscence while 3 (0.98%) had uterine rupture. Conclusion: Vaginal birth after one caesarean section is safe in well selected cases even in our resource poor settings. It offers our women a culturally-acceptable option of fulfilling long-held dreams of vaginal delivery even after one caesarean section and should be offered to our women whenever possible.

Effect and economic benefit of precision seeding and laser land leveling for winter wheat in the middle of China

Rapid socio-economic changes in China,such as land conversion and urbanization,are creating new scopes for the application of precision agriculture(PA).An experiment to assess the economic benefits of two precision agriculture methods was applied for one year–precision seeding and precision seeding with land *** the results for this were positive,of itself it did not provide evidence of longer terms *** costs of land leveling are accrued in a single year but the benefits could carry over into subsequent ***,in this case if the PA method provides carry over benefits to future years,the economic assessment would incorrectly assign all the costs to a single year of benefits *** benefit-cost ratio would be *** gauge whether there was carry over benefits in future years we looked at NDVI and GUI as proxies for future year *** the single year experiment,our results showed that:(1)Winter wheat yield was increased 23.2%through the integration of precision seeding and laser leveling technologies.(2)Both the single technology and the integrated technologies significant reduced the concentration of soil ammonium nitrogen at the depths of 60 cm;(3)The benefit/cost ratio's of the treatments exceeded that of the baseline by approximately 10%which translated to an increase of several hundred US$per *** NDVI analysis showed that the effect of laser land leveling could last to the next two *** considering the multi-year impact of land leveling,the benefit/cost ratio of PSLL will increase to 23.5%and 22.9%with and without laser land leveling *** clear the eco-nomic benefits of using PA technologies will likely promote application of the technologies in the region.
