Background： Recent technological advances in genomics have allowed the genotyping of cattle through single nucleotide polymorphism（SNP） panels. High-density SNP panels possess greater genome coverage and are useful for the identification of conserved regions of the genome due to selection, known as selection signatures（SS）. The SS are detectable by different methods, such as the extended haplotype homozygosity（EHH）; and the integrated haplotype score（i HS）, which is derived from the EHH. The aim of this study was to identify SS regions in Canchim cattle（composite breed）, genotyped with high-density SNP ***： A total of 687,655 SNP markers and 396 samples remained for SS analysis after the genotype quality control. The i HS statistic for each marker was transformed into pi HS for better interpretation of the *** BTA5 and BTA14 showed pi HS 〉 5, with 39 and nine statistically significant SNPs（P 〈 0.00001）,respectively. For the candidate selection regions, i HS values were computed across the genome and averaged within non-overlapping windows of 500 Kb. We have identified genes that play an important role in metabolism,melanin biosynthesis（pigmentation）, and embryonic and bone ***： The observation of SS indicates that the selection processes performed in Canchim, as well as in the founder breeds（i.e. Charolais）, are maintaining specific genomic regions, particularly on BTA5 and BTA14. These selection signatures regions could be associated with Canchim characterization.

The prospect of combining both magnetic and plasmonic properties in a single nanoparticle promises both valuable insights on the properties of such systems from a fundamental viewpoint and numerous possibilities for technological applications. However, the combination of two of the most prominent metallic candidates—iron and silver—has presented numerous experimental difficulties because their thermodynamic properties impede miscibility and even coalescence. Herein, we present the thorough characterization of physically prepared Fe50Ag50 nanoparticles embedded in carbon and silica matrices via electron microscopy, optical spectroscopy, magnetometry and synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopy. Iron and silver segregate completely into structures resembling fried eggs, with a nearly spherical, crystallized silver part surrounded by an amorphous structure of iron carbide or oxide, depending on the environment of the particles. Consequently, the particles exhibit both plasmonic absorption corresponding to the silver nanospheres in an oxide environment and a reduced but measurable magnetic response. The suitability of such nanoparticles for technological applications is discussed from the viewpoint of their high chemical reactivity with their environment.

Agrochemicals have been used throughout the ages to eradicate weeds and pests. Use of agrochemicals is now commonplace, serving as an aid in farming procedures and contributing to greater agricultural production. However, the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals is a cause for concern because they can exert toxic effects on the environment and hence on living beings. This work involved a genotoxic analysis of controlled release formulations of the herbicide ametryn encapsulated in microspheres of poly(hydroxybutyrate) and poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-valerate). Genotoxicity was analyzed using cytogenetic, micronucleus, comet and Allium cepa assays, as well as molecular analysis. The results showed that the rate of chromosome breakdown caused by unencapsulated ametryn was much higher than that caused by ametryn encapsulated in the polymer microspheres (p < 0.05). This indicates that controlled release delivery systems employing the polymer formulations should be significantly safer for the environment and for living beings.

Despite the exceptional species richness and endemism,the environmental drivers of plant diversity along old tropical mountains remain *** respective importance of vegetation types,elevation,slope,and soil to drive diversity across life-forms is poorly ***,we tested whether environmental variables drove local and regional plant diversity along an old tropical mountain according to the three main life-forms:graminoids,herbaceous and woody *** sampled all Angiosperm species on 180 plots across five elevations,at the tropical old-mountain region of Serra do Cipó,South-eastern *** assessed soil,slope,and vegetation types,and calculated richness and beta-diversity,applying generalized least square models,linear mixed-models and partial Mantel tests to test for *** of graminoids and herbaceous species increased with greater elevation and more nutrient-impoverished soils,while woody richness showed the inverse ***-diversity was primarily driven by species turnover,correlated with elevation and soil and higher in less dominant vegetation types,with unique *** the limited elevational range in these old mountains,it still played an important role in filtering woody species,while fostering graminoid and herbaceous *** and restoration actions need to foster the high regional diversity supported by the old mountain heterogeneous landscape and the diversity of life-forms,especially the dominant and highly diverse grassy component.

Objective: To evaluate the frequency and risk factors of epileptic seizures in a large cohort of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods: Five hundred nineteen consecutive patients with SLE were studied, with follow- up ranging from 4 to 7.8 years. The type and frequency of risk factors associated with acute and recurrent epileptic seizures in SLE were determined. Results: Sixty (11.6% ) patients with epileptic seizures were identified. Epileptic seizures occurred at the onset of SLE symptoms in 19 (31.6% ) and after the onset of SLE in 41 of 60 (68.3% ) patients. Fifty- three of 60 (88.3% )- patients had acute symptomatic epileptic seizures, and 7 of 60 (11.7% ) had recurrent epileptic seizures. Variables associated with acute epileptic seizures at SLE onset were stroke (p = 0.0004) and antiphospholipid antibodies (p = 0.0013). Epileptic seizures during follow- up were related to nephritis (p = 0.001), antiphospholipid antibodies (p = 0.005), and epileptic seizures at disease onset (p = 0.00001). All seven patients who presented recurrent epileptic seizures had antiphospholipid syndrome and interictal epileptic abnormalities on EEG. Conclusions: Epileptic seizures were observed in 11.2% of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients. Antiphospholipid antibodies and stroke were related to epileptic seizures at SLE disease onset. Patients with renal flares, epileptic seizures at SLE disease onset, and antiphospholipid antibodies were at greater risk for acute symptomatic seizures during follow- up. Recurrence of epileptic seizures occurred in 1.3% of patients and was associated with antiphospholipid syndrome.
