The Ordos Basin(OB)in the western part of the North China Craton(NCC),was located at the jointed area of multi-plates and has recorded the Mesozoic tectonic *** tectonic evolution in the Mesozoic is significant to understand the tectonic transformation of the northern margin of the *** this work,the detrital zircon and apatite(U-Th)/He chronological system were analyzed in the northern part of the OB,and have provided new evidence for the regional tectonic ***(U-Th)/He chronological data states the weighted ages of 240‒235 Ma,141 Ma with the peak distribution of 244 Ma,219 Ma,173 Ma,147‒132 *** thermal evolution,geochronological data,and regional unconformities have proved four stages of regional tectonic evolution for the OB and its surroundings in the Mesozoic:(1)The Late Permian-Early Triassic;(2)the Late Triassic-Early Jurassic;(3)the Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous;(4)the Late Cretaceous-Early *** is indicated that the multi-directional convergence from the surrounding tectonic units has controlled the Mesozoic tectonic evolution of the ***-stage tectonic evolution reflected the activation or end of different plate movements and provided new time constraints for the regional tectonic evolution of the NCC in the Mesozoic.

Studies on the Lattice Distortion and Substructures of Shocked Lamellae in Naturally Shocked Quartz

One unshocked and 9 naturally shocked single quartz crystal grains with 1-6 sets of shock lamellaefrom the Ries, West Germany, and the Lake Lappajarvi, Finland, covering a range from unshocked quartzwith _disibledevent=1.544 to nearly completely glassy quartz with _disibledevent=1.461 have been used for X-ray precessionand Laue investigations. Four of the shocked grains have preliminarily been studied under a transmissionelectron microscope. It is found that quartz having No less than 1.539 shows intensive anisotropic cellexpansion and lattice disordering which gradually increase as No decreases. Shock-induced lattice distortionof quartz is clearly shown on both precession and Laue photographs. For the weakly shocked quartz (p<200kb) slight to pronounced spreading of spots is observed. When the pressure reaches 200 kb, both concentricspreading of spots having long ‘tails' and concentric rings (powder pattern) are revealed on the samephotograph, which means that besides a part of single crystal there also exist randomly oriented tiny‘fragments' of quartz in this shocked quartz grain. As pressure increases from 230 to 315 kb, more and morecrystalline puases in the quartz grains have transformed from solid state into silica glass, and the concentricrings and the long ‘tails' disappear and the spot spreading becomes slight again, but reflection intensitiesbecome much lower in comparison with those of weakly shocked quartz. TEM investigations show three kinds of substructures of shock lamellae. The glass contents of two ofthe four grains (73% and 84% respectively) were measured on TEM photographs with the help of an imageanalysis system. On the basis of above investigations a six-terminal-state model for the mechanism of deformation inshock metamorphosed quartz is presented.

Pb Isotopes Data from the Campanian Volcanic Province: A Model to Generate These Distinctive Pb Isotopic Variations

A broad set of samples from the CVP has been analyzing Pb isotopes. Campanian Volcanic Province (CVP) has been produced by various ranges of mixing between three components: 1) MORB, 2) Hercynian basement and 3) upper crust. Anyhow, the upper crust that has modified the Pb isotopic composition also shows trends towards an Achaean upper crust. This is consistent for all Mediterranean area. This is not in contrast with the past plate tectonic reconstruction. Also the surface sediments (GLOSS) may have been a mixing between the Achaean upper crust and a Hercynian component with an implication worldwide due to the rock cycle processes.

Evaluating reservoir suitability for large-scale hydrogen storage:A preliminary assessment considering reservoir properties

With rising demand for clean energy,global focus turns to finding ideal sites for large-scale underground hydrogen storage(UHS)in depleted petroleum reservoirs.A thorough preliminary reservoir evaluation before hydrogen(H_(2))injection is crucial for UHS success and *** criteria for UHS often emphasize economics and chemistry,neglecting key reservoir *** study introduces a comprehensive framework for the reservoir-scale preliminary assessment,specifically tailored for long-term H_(2) storage within depleted gas *** evaluation criteria encompass critical components,including reservoir geometry,petrophysical properties,tectonics,and formation *** illustrate the practical application of this approach,we assess the Barnett shale play reservoir *** assessment unfolds through three key stages:(1)A systematic evaluation of the reservoir's properties against our comprehensive screening criteria determines its suitability for H_(2) storage.(2)Using both homogeneous and multilayered gas reservoir models,we explore the feasibility and efficiency of H_(2) *** phase involves an in-depth examination of reservoir behavior during the injection stage.(3)To enhance understanding of UHS performance,sensitivity analyses investigate the impact of varying reservoir dimensions and injection/production *** findings reveal the following:(a)Despite potential challenges associated with reservoir compaction and aquifer support,the reservoir exhibits substantial promise as an H_(2) storage site.(b)Notably,a pronounced increase in reservoir pressure manifests during the injection stage,particularly in homogeneous reservoirs.(c)Furthermore,optimizing injection-extraction cycle efficiency can be achieved by augmenting reservoir dimensions while maintaining a consistent *** ensure a smooth transition to implementation,further comprehensive investigations are advised,including experimental and numerical studies to address

A meta-analysis of global crop water productivity of three leading world crops(wheat,corn,and rice)in the irrigated areas over three decades

The overarching goal of this study was to perform a comprehensive metaanalysis of irrigated agricultural Crop Water Productivity(CWP)of the world’s three leading crops:wheat,corn,and rice based on three decades of remote sensing and non-remote sensing-based ***,CWP data from 148 crop growing study sites(60 wheat,43 corn,and 45 rice)spread across the world were gathered from published articles spanning 31 different *** was overwhelming evidence of a significant increase in CWP with an increase in latitude for predominately northern hemisphere *** example,corn grown in latitude 40–50°had much higher mean CWP(2.45 kg/m^(3))compared to mean CWP of corn grown in other latitudes such as 30–40°(1.67 kg/m^(3))or 20–30°(0.94 kg/m^(3)).The same trend existed for wheat and rice as *** soils,none of the CWP values,for any of the three crops,were statistically ***,mean CWP in higher latitudes for the same soil was significantly higher than the mean CWP for the same soil in lower *** applied for all three crops *** wheat,the global CWP categories were low(≤0.75 kg/m^(3)),medium(>0.75 to1.25 to≤1.75 kg/m^(3)),and high(>1.75 kg/m^(3)).For rice the global CWP categories were low(≤0.70 kg/m^(3)),medium(>0.70 to≤1.25 kg/m^(3)),and high(>1.25 kg/m^(3)).USA and China are the only two countries that have consistently high CWP for wheat,corn,and *** and India have medium CWP for wheat and ***’s corn,however,has low ***,Turkey,Netherlands,Mexico,and Israel have high CWP for ***,Argentina,and Hungary have high CWP for corn,and Philippines has high CWP for *** other countries have either low or medium CWP for all three *** on data in this study,the highest consumers of water for crop production also have the most potential for water *** countries are USA

Coupled paleomagnetic and geochronologic data derived from mafic dykes provide valuable records of continental *** reconstruct the Proterozoic paleogeographic history of Peninsular India,we report paleomagnetic directions and U-Pb zircon ages from twenty-nine mafic dykes in the Eastern Dharwar Craton near *** analysis yielded clusters of directional data that correspond to dyke swarms at 2.37 Ga,2.22 Ga,2.08 Ga,1.89-1.86 Ga,1.79 Ga,and a previously undated dual polarity *** report new positive baked contact tests for the 2.08 Ga swarm and the 1.89-1.86 Ga swarm(s),and a new inverse baked contact test for the 2.08 Ga *** results promote the 2.08 Ga Dharwar Craton paleomagnetic pole(43.1°N,184.5°E;A95=4.3°)to a reliability score of R=7 and suggest a position for the Dharwar Craton at 1.79 Ga based on a virtual geomagnetic pole(VGP)at 33.0°N,347.5°E(a95=16.9°,k=221,N=2).The new VGP for the Dharwar Craton provides support for the union of the Dharwar,Singhbhum,and Bastar Cratons in the Southern India Block by at least 1.79 *** new and published northeast-southwest moderate-steep dual polarity directions from Dharwar Craton dykes define a new paleomagnetic pole at 20.6°N,233.1°E(A95=9.2°,N=18;R=5).Two dykes from this group yielded 1.05-1.01 Ga 207Pb/206Pb zircon ages and this range is taken as the age of the new paleomagnetic pole.A comparison of the previously published poles with our new 1.05-1.01 Ga pole shows India shifting from equatorial to higher(southerly)latitudes from 1.08 Ga to 1.01 Ga as a component of Rodinia.

Multistate transition and coupled solid-liquid modeling of motion process of long-runout landslide

The recognition,repetition and prediction of the post-failure motion process of long-runout landslides are key scientific problems in the prevention and mitigation of geological *** this study,a new numerical method involving LPF3D based on a multialgorithm and multiconstitutive model was proposed to simulate long-runout landslides with high precision and *** following results were obtained:(a)The motion process of landslides showed a steric effect with mobility,including gradual disintegration and *** sliding mass can be divided into three states(dense,dilute and ultradilute)in the motion process,which can be solved by three dynamic regimes(friction,collision,and inertial);(b)Coupling simulation between the solid grain and liquid phases was achieved,focusing on drag force influences;(c)Different algorithms and constitutive models were employed in phase-state *** volume fraction is an important indicator to distinguish different state types and solid‒liquid *** flume experimental results were favorably validated against long-runout landslide case data;and(d)In this method,matched dynamic numerical modeling was developed to better capture the realistic motion process of long-runout landslides,and the advantages of continuum media and discrete media were combined to improve the computational accuracy and *** new method can reflect the realistic physical and mechanical processes in long-runout landslide motion and provide a suitable method for risk assessment and pre-failure prediction.

The Variation Range of Optical Constants and Distribution Characteristics of Shock Lamellae in Shock-metamorphosed Quartz

Two moderately shocked rock samples collected from the Ries Crater, West Ger-many (granite--gneiss sample RC--647--29 and biotite-granite sample RP--627--55) and twoweakly shocked pegmatite samples (Lj--711--12 and Lj--711--5) taken from Lake Lappaja-rvi, Finland, have been optically studied to establish the variation range of optical constantsand distribution characteristics of shock lamellae in shocked quartz. It has been found that sample RC--647--29 contains shocked quartz grains with the ave-rage refractive index ranging from 1.4612 to 1.5331, and sample RP--627--55 from 1.5002 to1.4669, i.e., they cover a wide range of shock pressures. As for the larger quartz grains in sam-ples Lj--711--12 and Li--711--5, the variation range of the average refractive indices are smal-ler than those of samples from the Ries Crater. Hence the estimation of degree of shock mustest with the investigation of a set of representative shocked quartz crystals from a single shoc-ked rock sample. The optical data on shocked quartz indicate that the degree of shock is highly independentof the number of shock lamellae sets and their orientations; the most sensitive optical indicatoris the index of refraction. On the basis of TEM investigations of single crystal grains of shocked quartz differing inrefractive index, three mechanisms of formation of shock lamellae have been established: hostquartz crystals with lamellae having closely spaced dislocations; host quartz crystals with lamel-lae of randomly oriented fine grains of quartz; and host quartz crystals or their residual frag-ments with lamellae of silica glass.

THE GLOBAL BIOSTRATIGRAPHICAL CORRELATION OF THE MEISHUCUNIAN STAGE AND THE PRECAMBRIAN-CAMBRIAN BOUNDARY

The Meishucunian Stage is rich in fossils and is characterized by their distinct evolutionsequence, so based on the established zonation of small shelly fossils, the sequence of tracefossils and the stratotype point (China "B", the dividing point between Units 6 and 7 or be-tween fossil zones Ⅰ and Ⅱ), the Meishucun section is more widely applicable to both region-al and intercontinental correlations. In this respect, the stage is well suited for both thecarbonate and the clastic-rock sedimentary regions. The Meishucunian small shelly fossil assem-blages are correlated with those found in Siberia of U.S.S.R., Mongolia, Central England,South Australia and Northwestern Canada. The Meishucunian trace fossil sequence can alsobe broadly correlated with that in the Russian Platform of U.S.S.R., Northwest Europe,Great Britain, Spain, Australia, the Western united states and Southeastern Canada.

In the united states, cropland erosion has decreased by an estimated one billion tons or 42 Percent for the period 1982 to 1997 (USDA NRCS, 1998) through erosion reduction provisions of the Food Security Actof 1985 and the ongoing soil conservation programs administered by the united states Department ofAgriculture’s Soil Conservation Service (USDA-SCS), which became the Natural Resources ConservationService (USDA-NRCS) in *** U.S. geological Survey has measured suspended sediment loads at strearn gages from 198O through1989 and showed primarily decreases of from 1 to 12 percent for most regions and increases for only threeregions, ranging from 2 to l2 percent.A Reservoir Sediment Information System (RESIS) was created so that decades of dare on reservoir sediment deposits could be evaluated (Atwood, 1994, Steffen, 1994; Atwood and Steffen, 1994). Theresults of analyses show a major increase in unit-area sediment deposition rates during the period 1970through 1985, which may be attributable to increased cropland acreage, a switch from diversified farming tointensive monocultUred crops, with widespread adoption of soybeans. The most recent measured ratesshow that 25 percent of the united states reservoirs would be at least half-filled with sediment by 2O18,although there is a significant data gap since 1985. Relatively few reservoirs were surveyed since 1985 dueto lack of funding priority and increased survey labor costs.
