Effect of ethanol extracts of green tea(Camellia sinensis L.)and amla(Phyllanthus emblica Linn)were investigated on quality and melanosis of chilled stored Indian white prawn(Fenneropenaeus indicus)during 28 *** were subjected to antioxidant assays viz.1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl radical reducing power methods(DPPH),total antioxidant capacity(TAC),total phenolic content(TPC)and ferric reducing antioxidant power(FRAP)to evaluate antioxidant potentiality and fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)to identify organic *** oxidase(PPO)inhibition was assessed to check the efficacy of the extracts as anti-melanogenic ***(total volatile nitrogen,free fatty acid and peroxide values),bacteriological(aerobic counts),melanosis inhibition and sensory quality of chilled stored shrimp were addressed to investigate the efficacy of extracts as preservative and anti-melanogenic *** reducing power of green tea-and amla extracts were in a range of 28.72-65.67%and 17.38-66.95%,*** content level was almost same for green tea and amla extract(2.46±0.002 and 2.51±0.036 mg GAE/gram).Total antioxidant capacity of green tea(210.33±4.63 mg EqAsc/g)was slightly higher than that of amla extracts(145.56±1.98 mg EqAsc/g).FRAP value revealed that green tea(477.49±3.25 mgE Fe(II)/g)had more ferric reducing power than amla(324.39±5.85 mgE Fe(II)/g).FT-IR analysis revealed the presence of essential organic bioactive compounds,which play an important role in reducing lipid oxidation and quality loss,and both extracts possess an encouraging PPO inhibition *** by green tea-and amla extracts on chilled stored shrimp showed promising effects on biochemical and microbiological parameters followed by melanosis inhibition and enhanced sensory *** Indian white prawn with green tea-and amla extract revealed significantly(P<0.05)lower value of biochemical indices and microbial load during chilled storage

BACKGROUND The clinical presentation of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) shows a large symptom variation also in different intensities among patients. As several studies have shown, there is a large overlap in the symptomatic spectrum between proven GERD and other disorders such as dyspepsia, functional heartburn and/or somatoform *** To prospectively evaluate the GERD patients with and without somatoform disorders before and after laparoscopic antireflux *** In a tertiary referral center for foregut surgery over a period of 3 years patients with GERD, qualifying for the indication of laparoscopic antireflux surgery, were investigated prospectively regarding their symptomatic spectrum in order to identify GERD and associated somatoform disorders. Assessment of symptoms was performed by an instrument for the evaluation of somatoform disorders[Somatoform Symptom Index(SSI) > 17]. Quality of life was evaluated by Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index(GIQLI).RESULTS In 123 patients an indication for laparoscopic antireflux surgery was established and in 43 patients further medical therapy was suggested. The portion of somatoform tendencies in the total patient population was 20.48%(34 patients).Patients with a positive SSI had a preoperative GIQLI of 77(32-111). Patients with a normal SSI had a GIQLI of 105(29-140)(P < 0.0001). In patients with GERD the quality of life could be normalized from preoperative reduced values of GIQLI102(47-140) to postoperative values of 117(44-144). In patients with GERD and somatoform disorders, the GIQLI was improved from preoperative GIQLI 75(47-111) to postoperative 95(44-122)(P < 0.0043).CONCLUSION Patients with GERD and associated somatoform disorders have significantly worse levels of quality of life. The latter patients can also benefit from laparoscopic fundoplication, however they will not reach a normal level.

Marine controlled source electromagnetic(CSEM) data have been utilized in the past decade during petroleum exploration of the Barents Shelf, particularly for de-risking the highly porous sandstone reservoirs of the Upper Triassic to Middle Jurassic Realgrunnen Subgroup. In this contribution we compare the resistivity response from CSEM data to resistivity from wireline logs in both water-and hydrocarbon-bearing wells. We show that there is a very good match between these types of data, particularly when reservoirs are shallow. CSEM data, however, only provide information on the subsurface resistivity. Careful, geology-driven interpretation of CSEM data is required to maximize the impact on exploration success. This is particularly important when quantifying the relative resistivity contribution of high-saturation hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone and that of the overlying cap rock. In the presented case the cap rock comprises predominantly organic rich Upper Jurassic–Early Cretaceous shales of the Hekkingen Formation(i.e. a regional source rock). The resistivity response of the reservoir and its cap rock become merged in CSEM data due to the transverse resistance equivalence principle. As a result of this, it is imperative to understand both the relative contributions from reservoir and cap rock, and the geological significance of any lateral resistivity variation in each of the units. In this contribution, we quantify the resistivity of organic rich mudstone, i.e. source rock, and reservoir sandstones, using 131 exploration boreholes from the Barents Shelf. The highest resistivity(>10,000 Ωm) is evident in the hydrocarbon-bearing Realgrunnen Subgroup which is reported from 48 boreholes, 43 of which are used for this study. AIM To evaluate prior hospital contacts with alcohol problems in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis and pancreatitis. METHODS This was a register-based study of all patients diagnosed with alcoholic liver cirrhosis or pancreatitis during 2008-2012 in Denmark. Hospital contacts with alcohol problems(intoxication, harmful use, or dependence) in the 10-year period preceding the diagnosis of alcoholic liver cirrhosis and pancreatitis were *** In the 10 years prior to diagnosis, 40% of the 7719 alcoholic liver cirrhosis patients and 40% of the 1811 alcoholic pancreatitis patients had at least one prior hospital contact with alcohol problems. Every sixth patient(15%-16%) had more than five contacts. A similar pattern of prior hospital contacts was observed for alcoholic liver cirrhosis and pancreatitis. Around 30% were diagnosed with alcohol dependence and 10% with less severe alcohol diagnoses. This is the first report of the Barents Sea Ice Edge (BIE) project. The BIE position has varied between latitude 76°N and above 82°N during the last 440 years. During the period 10,000 to 6000 years ago, arctic climate was significantly warmer than today. We review various oceanic and atmospheric factors that may have an effect on the BIE position. The Gulf Stream beat with respect to alternations in flow intensity and N-S distribution plays a central role for the changes in climate and BIE position during the last millennium. This occurred in combination with external forcing from total solar irradiation, Earth’s shielding strength, Earth’s geomagnetic field intensity, Earth’s rotation, jet stream changes;all factors of which are ultimately driven by the planetary beat on the Sun, the Earth and the Earth-Moon system. During the last 20 years, we see signs of changes and shifts that may signal the end of the late 20th century warm period. The BIE position is likely to start advancing southward in next decade.

On Data-Independent Properties for Density-Based Dissimilarity Measures in Hybrid Clustering

Hybrid clustering combines partitional and hierarchical clustering for computational effectiveness and versatility in cluster shape. In such clustering, a dissimilarity measure plays a crucial role in the hierarchical merging. The dissimilarity measure has great impact on the final clustering, and data-independent properties are needed to choose the right dissimilarity measure for the problem at hand. Properties for distance-based dissimilarity measures have been studied for decades, but properties for density-based dissimilarity measures have so far received little attention. Here, we propose six data-independent properties to evaluate density-based dissimilarity measures associated with hybrid clustering, regarding equality, orthogonality, symmetry, outlier and noise observations, and light-tailed models for heavy-tailed clusters. The significance of the properties is investigated, and we study some well-known dissimilarity measures based on Shannon entropy, misclassification rate, Bhattacharyya distance and Kullback-Leibler divergence with respect to the proposed properties. As none of them satisfy all the proposed properties, we introduce a new dissimilarity measure based on the Kullback-Leibler information and show that it satisfies all proposed properties. The effect of the proposed properties is also illustrated on several real and simulated data sets.

We consider the vanishing ideal of a projective space over a finite field. An explicit set of generators for this ideal has been given by Mercier and Rolland. We show that these generators form a universal Gr¨obner basis of the ideal. Further we give a projective analogue for the so-called footprint bound, and a version of it that is suitable for estimating the number of rational points of projective algebraic varieties over finite fields. An application to Serre’s inequality for the number of points of projective hypersurfaces over finite fields is included.
