Catalytic degradation of chlorinated volatile organic compounds(CVOCs)over Ce-Mn-Ti composite oxide catalysts

Developing industrially moldable catalysts with harmonized redox performance and acidity is of great significance for the efficient disposal of chlorinated volatile organic compounds(CVOCs)in actual exhaust ***,commercial TiO_(2),typically used for molding catalysts,was chosen as the carrier to fabricate a series of Ce_(0.02)Mn_(0-0.24)TiO_(x) materials with different Mn doping ratios and employed for chlorobenzene(CB)*** introduction of Mn remarkedly facilitated the synergistic effect of each element via the electron transfer processes:Ce^(3+)+Mn^(4+/3+)■Ce^(4+)+Mn^(3+/2+)and Mn^(4+/3+)+Ti^(4+)■Mn^(3+/2+)+Ti^(3+).These synergistic interactions in Ce_(0.02)Mn_(0.04-0.24)TiO_(x),especially Ce_(0.02)Mn_(0.16)TiO_(x),significantly elevated the active oxygen species,oxygen vacancies and redox properties,endowing the superior catalytic oxidation of *** the Mn doping amount increased to 0.24,a separate Mn_(3)O_(4) phase appeared,which in turn might weaken the synergistic ***,the acidity of Ce_(0.02)Mn_(0.04-0.24)TiO_(x) was decreased with the Mn doping,regulating the balance of redox property and ***,Ce_(0.02)Mn_(0.16)TiO_(x) featured relatively abundant B-acid *** coordinating redox ability and moderate acidity promoted the deep oxidation of CB and RCOOH-intermediates,as well as the rapid desorption of Cl species,thus obtaining sustainable *** comparison,CeTiO_(x) owned the strongest acidity,however,its poor redox property was not sufficient for the timely oxidative decomposition of the easier adsorbed CB,resulting in its rapid *** finding provides a promising strategy for the construction of efficient commercial molding catalysts to decompose the industrial-scale CVOCs.

This study investigated degradation behaviors of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug Nabumetone(NMT)and its major metabolite 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid(MNA)in the coupling process of ultraviolet and monochloramine(UV/NH2Cl).The second-order rate constants of the contaminants reacting with reactive radicals(HO·,Cl·,Cl_(2)·-,and CO_(3)·^(-))were determined by laser flash photolysis ***·and Cl·contributed predominantly with 52.3%and 21.7%for NMT degradation and 60.8%and 22.3%for MNA *** presence of chlorides retarded the degradation of NMT,while promoted the destruction of MNA,which was ascribed to the photosensitization effects of MNA under UV *** functional theory(DFT)calculations revealed that radical adduct formation(RAF)was dominant pathway for both HO·and Cl·reacting with the contaminants,and hydrogen atom transfer(HAT)preferred to occur on side chains of NMT and *** reacted with NO_(2)·through single electron transfer(SET)with the second-order rate constant calculated to be 5.35×10^(7)(mol/L)^(-1)sec^(-1),and the contribution of NO_(2)·was predicted to be 13.0%of the total rate constant of NMT in pure water,which indicated that NO_(2)·played a nonnegligible role in the degradation of *** acute toxicity and developmental toxicity of NMT were enhanced after UV/NH_(2)Cl treatment,while those of MNA were *** transformation products of both NMT and MNA exhibited higher mutagenicity than their parent *** study provides a deep understanding of the mechanism of radical degradation of NMT and MNA in the treatment of UV/NH2Cl.

Emerging evidence suggested that zinc finger protein 831(ZNF831)was associated with immune activity and stem cell regulation in breast ***,the roles and molec-ular mechanisms of ZNF831 in oncogenesis remain ***831 expression was significantly diminished in breast cancer which was associated with promoter CpG methylation but not *** over-expression of ZNF831 suppressed breast cancer cell proliferation and col-ony formation and promoted apoptosis in vitro,while knockdown of ZNF831 resulted in an opposite ***-proliferation effect of ZNF831 was verified in *** analysis of public databases and transcriptome sequencing both showed that ZNF831 could enhance apoptosis through transcriptional regulation of the JAK/STAT *** and luciferase report assays demonstrated that ZNF831 could directly bind to one specific region of STAT3 promoter and induce the transcriptional inhibition of *** a result,the attenuation of STAT3 led to a restraint of the transcription of Bcl2 and thus accelerated the apoptotic *** of STAT3 diminished the apoptosis-promoting effect of ZNF831 in breast cancer cell ***,ZNF831 could ameliorate the anti-proliferation effect of capecitabine and gemcitabine in breast cancer cell *** findings demonstrate for the first time that ZNF831 is a novel transcriptional suppressor through inhibiting the expression of STAT3/Bcl2 and promoting the apoptosis process in breast cancer,suggesting ZNF831 as a novel biomarker and potential therapeutic target for breast cancer patients.

Estimation and verification of green tide biomass based on UAV remote sensing

Since 2007,the Yellow Sea green tide has broken out every summer,causing great harm to the environment and *** satellite remote sensing(RS)has been used in biomass research,there are several shortcomings,such as mixed pixels,atmospheric interference,and difficult field *** biomass of green tide has been lacking a high-precision estimation *** this study,high-resolution unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)RS was used to quantitatively map the biomass of green *** utilizing experimental data from previous studies,a robust relationship was established to link biomass to the red-green-blue floating algae index(RGB-FAI).Then,the lab-based model for green tide biomass from visible images taken by the UAV camera was developed and validated by field *** sults show that the accurate and cost-effective method is able to estimate the green tide biomass and its changes in given local waters of the near and far *** study provided an effective complement to the traditional satellite RS,as well as high-precision quantitative techniques for decision-making in disaster management.

New particle formation(NPF) in the tropical free troposphere(FT) is a globally important source of cloud condensation nuclei, affecting cloud properties and climate. Oxidized organic molecules(OOMs)produced from biogenic volatile organic compounds are believed to contribute to aerosol formation in the tropical FT, but without direct chemical observations. We performed in situ molecular-level OOMs measurements at the Bolivian station Chacaltaya at 5240 m above sea level, on the western edge of Amazonia. For the first time, we demonstrate the presence of OOMs, mainly with 4–5 carbon atoms, in both gas-phase and particle-phase(in terms of mass contribution) measurements in tropical FT air from Amazonia. These observations, combined with air mass history analyses, indicate that the observed OOMs are linked to isoprene emitted from the rainforests hundreds of kilometers away. Based on particle-phase measurements, we find that these compounds can contribute to NPF, at least the growth of newly formed nanoparticles, in the tropical FT on a continental scale. Thus, our study is a fundamental and significant step in understanding the aerosol formation process in the tropical FT.

High-sensitivity formaldehyde gas sensor based on Ce-doped urchin-like SnO_(2) nanowires derived from calcination of Sn-MOFs

Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)have attracted widespread attention due to their regular structures,multiple material centers,and various *** are always considered as one kind of ideal templates for developing highly sensitive and selective gas *** this study,the advantages of MOFs with the high specific surface area(71.9891 m^(2)·g^(-1))and uniform morphology were fully utilized,and urchin-like SnO_(2) nanowires were obtained by the hydrothermal method followed by the calcination using Sn-MOFs consisting of the ligand of C_(9)H_(6)O_(6)(H_(3)BTC)and Sn/Ce center ions as sacrificial *** unique urchin-like nanowire structure facilitated gas diffusion and adsorption,resulting in superior gas sensitivity.A series of Ce-doped SnO_(2) nanowires with different doping ratios were synthesized,and their gas sensing properties towards formaldehyde were *** resulted Ce-SnO_(2) was revealed to have high sensitivity(201.2 at 250℃),rapid response(4 s),long-term stability,and good repeatability for formaldehyde sensing,and the gas sensing mechanism of Ce-SnO_(2) exposed to formaldehyde was also systematically discussed.

Control of fine particulate nitrate during severe winter haze in“2+26”cities

The“2+26”cities,suffering the most severe winter haze pollution,have been the key region for air quality improvement in *** prominent nitrate pollution is one of the most challenging environmental issues in this region,necessitating development of an effective control ***,we use observations,and state-of-the-art model simulations with scenario analysis and process analysis to quantify the effectiveness of the future SO_(2)-NO_(X)-VOC-NH_(3) emission control on nitrate pollution mitigation in“2+26”*** on a serious winter haze episode,we find that limited NO_(X)emission reduction alone in the short-term period is a less effective choice than VOC or NH_3emission reduction alone to decrease nitrate concentrations,due to the accelerated NO_(X)-HNO_(3)conversion by atmospheric oxidants and the enhanced HNO_(3)to NO_(3)^(-)partition by ammonia,although deep NO_(X)emission reduction is essential in the long-term *** synergistic NH_(3) and VOC emission control is strongly recommended,which can counteract the adverse effects of nonlinear photochemistry and aerosol chemical feedback to decrease nitrate *** extra benefits will be reduced if the synergistic NH_(3) and VOC reduction is delayed,and thus reducing emission of multiple precursors is urgently required for the effective control of increasingly severe winter nitrate pollution in“2+26”cities.

Anthropogenic noise interacts with the predation risk assessment in a free-ranging bird

Anthropogenic noise can affect a number of behavioral,physiological,and ecological aspects of animals from major taxonomic groups,raising serious conservation *** example,noise pollution impacts communicative behavior and perception of signals,movements and distribution,as well as predator–prey interactions,such as hunting success or predator detection and predation risk *** have carried out an experimental playback study,in which we investigated whether exposure to anthropogenic noise(sound of a tractor)distracts free-ranging barn swallows Hirundo rustica from paying attention to an approaching human“predator”(the“cognitive distraction”hypothesis),or whether noise leads to increased responsiveness to this“predator”(the“increased threat”hypothesis).The subjects were male barn swallows attending their breeding territories during the time when the females were *** found that barn swallow males initiated fight at signifcantly greater distances to the approaching human“predator”in the noise treatment than during the quiet control *** results suggest that anthropogenic noise causes increased vigilance and reactivity rather than a distraction,enabling birds to avoid the“predator”more *** further discuss the mechanism behind the increased alertness in response to noise and contrast the“increased threat”mechanism,usually tested in previous studies,with an alternative“cognitive sensitization”mechanism.

Dissolved organic matter accelerates microbial degradation of 17 alpha-ethinylestradiol in the presence of iron mineral

Dissolved organic matter(DOM)and iron minerals widely existing in the natural aquatic environment can mediate the migration and transformation of organic ***,the mechanism of interaction between DOM and iron minerals in the microbial degradation of pollutants deserves further *** this study,the mechanism of 17 alphaethinylestradiol(EE2)biodegradation mediated by humic acid(HA)and three kinds of iron minerals(goethite,magnetite,and pyrite)was *** results found that HA and iron minerals significantly accelerated the biodegradation process of EE2,and the highest degradation efficiency of EE2(48%)was observed in the HA-mediated microbial system with pyrite under aerobic ***,it had been demonstrated that hydroxyl radicals(HO·)was the main active substance responsible for the microbial degradation of ***·is primarily generated through the reaction between hydrogen peroxide secreted by microorganisms and Fe(II),with aerobic conditions being more *** presence of iron minerals and HA could change the microbial communities in the EE2 biodegradation *** findings provide new information for exploring the migration and transformation of pollutants by microorganisms in iron-rich environments.

Risk assessment of oil and gas investment environment in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative

With the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, China is deepening its cooperation in oil and gas resources with countries along the Initiative. In order to better mitigate risks and enhance the safety of investments, it is of significant importance to research the oil and gas investment environment in these countries for China's overseas investment macro-layout. This paper proposes an indicator system including 27 indicators from 6 dimensions. On this basis, game theory models combined with global entropy method and analytic hierarchy process are applied to determine the combined weights, and the TOPSIS-GRA model is utilized to assess the risks of oil and gas investment in 76 countries along the Initiative from 2014 to 2021. Finally, the GM(1,1) model is employed to predict risk values for 2022-2025. In conclusion, oil and gas resources and political factors have the greatest impact on investment environment risk, and 12 countries with greater investment potential are selected through cluster analysis in conjunction with the predicted results. The research findings may provide scientific decisionmaking recommendations for the Chinese government and oil enterprises to strengthen oil and gas investment cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.
