Performance of Photovoltaic-double skin façade(Photovoltaic-DSF)system in summer has been *** to high solar ingress,cooling requirement of a building significantly ***-DSF system provides a shield and controls the heat gain through fenestration in the interior *** the present article,mathematical correlations are developed for energy characterization of forced-ventilated Photovoltaic-DSF system in India’s hot summer zone *** Photovoltaic-DSF system has been installed and monitored for Jaipur’s summer months(May to July).L25 Orthogonal array of design parameters(air cavity thickness,air velocity,and PV panel’s transparency)and their respective levels have been developed using Taguchi design to perform *** on experimental results,multiple linear regression has been used to forecast solar heat gain coefficient,PVs electrical power and daylighting illuminance indoors as function of design *** statistical significance of mathematical relationships is sorted by variance analysis,which is found to be in good accord with field measurements(R2>0.90).The proposed correlations are pragmatic in designing Photovoltaic-DSF systems for hot summer *** Photovoltaic-DSF system with 30%transmittance and air velocity of 5 metres per second in 200 mm air cavity thickness achieved maximum energy performance in hot summers.

Transition from laminar flow to turbulent flow is of great practical interest as it occurs in many engineering flows and often plays a critical role in aerodynamics and heat transfer performance of those flow *** could be many routes through transition,depending on flow configuration,geometry and the way in which transition is initiated by a wide range of possible background disturbances such as free-stream turbulence,pressure gradient,acoustic noise,wall roughness and obstructions,periodic unsteady disturbance and so *** paper presents a brief overview of wall bounded flow transition in general and focuses more on the transition process in the free shear layer of separation bubbles,demonstrating that at elevated free-stream turbulent intensity the so called bypass transition could occur in geometrically induced separation bubbles where the separation point is fixed.

Throughout history, design values have always underlined a given architectural style. The manner architects and architectural critics distinguish between them varies from that of the public. In fact a style welt perceived by civil society was read as pathological by architectural academia. This paper examines the values and perceptions of contemporary architecture by architects and civil society. Through qualitative methodology, a project by each of the following leading contemporary architects - Renzo Piano, Norman Foster and Rem Koolhaas - was analyzed. The selected designs, all commissioned not more than a decade ago, vary in locations from Malta to Lebanon to India. The study concludes that design values and perceptions of architecture as read by members of the architectural profession do not tally with those of the public. The emphasis by architects is on the aesthetic whilst non-architects focus on the utilitarian dimension. Furthermore, the rhetorical language which architects use is not read as such by the public. The assessment of the public is based on the existential reality which they experience. The perception of civil society matters; it is at the core of architectural design values.

Satellite remote sensing reveals overwhelming recovery of forest from disturbances in Asia

Forest ecosystems play key roles in mitigating human-induced climate change through enhanced carbon uptake;however,frequently occurring climate extremes and human activities have considerably threatened the stability of *** the same time,detailed accounts of disturbances and forest responses are not yet well quantified in *** study employed the Breaks For Additive Seasonal and Trend method-an abrupt-change detection method-to analyze the Enhanced Vegetation Index time series in East Asia,South Asia,and Southeast *** approach allowed us to detect forest disturbance and quantify the resilience after *** showed that 20%of forests experienced disturbance with an increasing trend from 2000 to 2022,and Southeast Asian countries were more severely affected by ***,95%of forests had robust resilience and could recover from disturbance within a few *** resilience of forests suffering from greater magnitude of disturbance tended to be stronger than forests with lower disturbance *** summary,this study investigated the resilience of forests across the low and middle latitudes of Asia over the past two *** authors found that most forests exhibited good resilience after disturbance and about two-thirds had recovered to a better state in *** findings of this study underscore the complex relationship between disturbance and resilience,contributing to comprehension of forest resilience through satellite remote sensing.

The development and use of design technology for architecture in the modem world have ted to the emergence of various design methodologies. Current design research has focused on a computationaUy mediated design process. This method is essentially concerned with finding forms and building performance simulation, i.e., structural, environmental, constructional, and cost performance, by integrating physics and algorithms. From the emergence of this process, design practices have been increasingly aided by and dependent on the technology, which has resulted in a major paradigm shift. Advancement of the new technology has the potential to improve design and productivity dramatically. However, related literature shows that substantial technical and organizational barriers exist. These barriers inhibit the effective adoption of these technologies. The effect of these obstacles on architectural practice varies depending on the size of an architectural organization. To further understand the problem, we conducted an in-depth study on several small, medium, and large architectural organizations. This study involves in-depth evaluation of technological, financial, organizational, governmental, psychological, and process barriers encountered in the adoption of digital innovation. Results reveal relevant attributes and patterns of variables, which can be used to establish a framework for digital innovation adoption. Valuable findings of this study reveal that smatter architectural organizations present more barriers to digital innovation compared with their larger counterparts. This study is important because it contributes to the research on digital innovation in architecture and addresses the barriers faced by different sizes of architectural organizations.

Roundabout is still the focus of several investigations due to the relevant number of variables affecting their operational performances(i.e.,capacity,safety,emissions).To develop reliable models,investigations should be supported by devices and relate d sensors to extract variables of interest(i.e.,flow,speed,gap,lag,follow-up time,vehicle classification and trajectory).Notwithstanding that several sensors and technolo gies are currently used for data collection,most of them present *** paper presents the investigation carried out to survey vehicle movem ents at roundabouts as a comprehensive video image analysis system is able to derive the origin/destination(O/D)matrix,compile a vehicle classification,track individual vehicle trajectories together with corresponding speeds and accelerations along *** this end,the authors collected video-sequences that were analysed with a piece of software developed for that *** minimize the problems due to perspective distortion,environmental effects,and obstructions,a number of camera set-up configurations were adopted with equipment being placed on central or external poles,and on permanent fixtures such as raised working platforms outside the confines of the intersection *** of those installation set-ups with different vehicle tracking strategies has been ***,speed has been successfully related to trajectory tortuosity,the result of which emphasizes the tremendous potential of image analysis and opens up to further studies on the evaluation of the operational effects of roundabout geometrics.

In the last ten years,‘nature’and biophilic design have received widespread attention in architecture,especially in response to growing environmental ***,open questions and controversies remain regarding conceptualizing and addressing‘nature’in practice and *** study conducts a literature review to discuss biophilic design as a theoretical framework to interpret‘nature’in *** following questions are answered:(1)How has the concept of biophilic design emerged,and how can it be defined?(2)In what ways can biophilic design contribute to the goals of sustainable architecture?(3)What are the key design strategies in biophilic design?This review identifies and compares the key frameworks of biophilic design and explains their major *** then analyse the benefits(e.g.,enhance health,well-being,productivity,biodiversity,and circularity)of biophilic design in achieving sustainability,as framed through the UN Sustainable Development *** results indicate that biophilic design is more complex and richer than the mere application of vegetation in buildings;it broadens the variety through encompassing different types of nature from physical,sensory,metaphorical,morphological,material to ***,knowledge gaps are identified to motivate future research and critical reflections on biophilic design practices.

This paper describes the fabrication of a waveguide and the analysis of its polarization characteristics by applying light-emitting diode(LED) pumping lights to its *** using double tubed coaxial line(DTCL) microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition(MPCVD) equipment,an a-Si:H/SiN multilayer waveguide was fabricated whose thickness could be controlled at nanometer *** main structural material of the waveguide sample consisted of a combination of layers of amorphous silicon hydrogen and silicon *** the sample was ready,another major objective of the experiment was to analyze the polarization characteristics of the fabricated *** idea of the experiment was to analyze how the waveguide reacts when three types of LED(blue,yellow,and red) are radiated onto its *** results showed that the fabrication of the a-Si:H/SiN sample is *** effective transmission results,which accord with the polarization characteristics analysis,were obtained.
