Discovery of Wolitu Pb-Zn deposit through geochemical prospecting under loess cover in Inner Mongolia, China

We report the finding of the Wolitu Pb-Zn deposit in Inner Mongolia, China, through a series of geochemical surveys. The Wolitu area, located in the loess-cover area in the Hure Banner, Tongliao City,Inner Mongolia, and neighboring the Horqin Sandy Land to the north, had no previous history of Pb-Zn mining or record of Pb-Zn mineralization. Our study identified a large Pb-Zn anomaly with potential zones of mineralization by stream sediment survey. Random rock sampling reveals limonitization at sporadic outcrops in the gullies. The high concentrations of Pb in the residual debris provided guidelines to fix the position for exploratory trench. Oxidized concealed orebodies were identified by *** orebodies in veins hosted within the structural zone between slates and marbles of the upper Carboniferous Shizuizi Formation and the Permian granite were discovered by drilling. It is computed that the ore reserve may reach up to 540,000 tones with Pb grade of 1.27% and Zn of 1.9%. This case study is an excellent example for identifying potential polymetallic deposits in loess covered terrains using geochemical exploration.

For space-based gravitational wave （GW） detection,the main noise source for massive black hole binaries （MBHBs） is attributed to approximately 10～7double white dwarf binaries in the *** a GW source,the amplitude of the detector response,recorded by a space-based gravitational wave detector,exhibits a modulation effect with a year period when observing the source from various orbital *** the adverse conditions mentioned above,where there is a strong foreground noise and annual modulation in the signals,we employed the wavelet transform and the strong-amplitude relevant orbital position search methods,which allows the weak MBHB sources to achieve higher locating *** detail,for two MBHB sources of lower intensity,the precision of luminosity distance,represented by the ratio ?DL/DLat the 95%confidence level,is enhanced by factors of ～*** angular resolutions,denoted by??s,are enhanced by a factor of ～*** improvements increase the number of detectable GW sources,facilitate multi-messenger follow-up observations and provide constraints on the cosmological constant.

Noblesse multi-collector noble gas mass spec- trometer is specially designed for multi-collection of Ar isotopes with different beam sizes, especially for small ion beams, precisely, and hence is perfectly suitable for ^40Ar/^39Ar geochronology. We have analyzed widely used sanidine, muscovite, and biotite standards with recom- mended ages of - 1.2-133 Ma, with the aim to assess the reliability of Noblesse for ^40Ar/^39Ar dating. An ESI MIR10 30W CO2 laser was used for total fusion or incremental heating samples. Extracted gases were routinely purified by four SAES NP10 getters （one at - 400 ℃ and others at room temperature）. A GP50 getter and a metal cold finger cooled by liquid N （- 196 ℃） were also attached for additional purification if necessary. The Ar isotopes were then measured by Noblesse using Faraday or multiplier according to the signal intensities. Over a period of 1.5 months 337 air calibrations produced a weighted mean ^40Ar/^36Ar of 296.50 ± 0.08 （2σ, MSWD = 4.77）. Fish Canyon sanidine is used to calculate J-values, which show good linear relationship with position in irradiation. The age of four mineral standards （Alder Creek sanidine, Brione muscovite, Yabachi sanidine, and Fangshan biotite） are within error of the accepted ages. Five Alder Creek sanidine aliquots yielded an age range of 1.174-1.181 ± 0.013 Ma （2σ） which broadly overlaps the established age of the standard and the uncertainty approaches those of the foremost Ar/Ar laboratories in the world. The weighted mean ages of four Brione muscovite aliquots （18.75 i 0.16 Ma, 2σ）, five Yabachi sanidine aliquots （29.50 ± 0.19 Ma, 2σ）, and three Fangshan bio- tite aliquots （133.0 ± 0.76 Ma, 2σ） are consistent with the recommended values of these standards, and the uncer- tainties are typical of modem Ar/Ar laboratories world- wide.

The Tanjianshan Group,which was previously divided into a,b,c and d formations,has been controversial for a long *** mainly distributes in the northern margin of Qaidam Basin and is an important early Paleozoic greenschist facies metamorphic volcanic sedimentary rock *** field investigation and zircon LA-ICPMS U-Pb dating of the key strata suggest that the original lower part of a Formation （a-1） versus the original middle upper of d Formation （d-3 and d-4）,the original upper part of a Formation （a-2） and b Formation versus the original lower part of d Formation （d-1 and d-2） of Tanjianshan Group are contemporaneous heterotopic facies volcanicclasolite deposit,*** former formations formed during the middle-late Ordovician （463-458 Ma）,while the latter ones formed in the late Ordovician （about 445 Ma）.The original c formation of Tanjianshan Group,which formed after 430 Ma,is similar to the Maoniushan Formation of Kunlun Mountains and north Qaidam *** to the rules of stratigraphic division and naming,new stratum formations of Tanjianshan Group are re-built and divided into Duancenggou （O1-2td）,Zhongjiangou （O2-3tz） and Xitieshan （O3tx） *** original c Formation is separated from Tanjianshan Group and is renamed as the Wuminggou Formation （S3-D1W）,which shows a discordant contact with underlying Tanjianshan Group and overlying Amunike Formation （D3a）.The zircon U-Pb age frequency spectrogram of Tanjianshan Group indicates three prominent peaks of 430 Ma,460 Ma and 908 Ma,which is consistent with the metamorphic and magmatic crystallization ages obtained from para-and orthogneisses in north Qaidam HP-UHP metamorphic belt,implying that strong Caledonian and Jinningian tectonic and magmatic events have ever happened in North Qaidam.

A Correction Method Suitable for Dynamical Seasonal Prediction

Based on the hindcast results of summer rainfall anomalies over China for the period 1981-2000 by the Dynamical Climate Prediction System （IAP-DCP） developed by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, a correction method that can account for the dependence of model＇s systematic biases on SST anomalies is proposed. It is shown that this correction method can improve the hindcast skill of the IAP-DCP for summer rainfall anomalies over China, especially in western China and southeast China, which may imply its potential application to real-time seasonal prediction.

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic—and based on limited data on the novel coronavirus—it was projected that African countries will be ravaged and the health systems ***,Africa has so far defied these dire *** factors account for the less dramatic outcome,in particular the local know-how gained through dealing with previous epidemics,such as Ebola,and the early and coordinated political and public health response,applying a combination of containment and mitigation ***,these same measures,exacerbated by existing inequalities,have had negative impacts on vulnerable populations,notably women and ***,the observed deterioration of access to and provision of essential health services will likely continue and worsen in countries experiencing future waves of COVID-19 and lacking access to *** impact of the pandemic on health systems may be one of Africa’s main COVID-19 challenges and women and children its greatest *** this article,we argue that just as learning from previous epidemics and coordinated preparation informed Africa’s response to COVID-19,knowledge,innovations and resources from recent implementation research can be leveraged to mitigate the pandemic’s effects and inform recovery *** an example,we present the proven model and multifaceted approach of the Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa Initiative and describe how such a model could be readily applied to building the robust and equitable systems needed to tackle future stresses and shocks,such as epidemics,on health systems while maintaining essential routine services.
