Economy Analysis of Flexible LCC-HVDC Systems with Controllable Capacitors

Commutation failure(CF)is a frequent dynamic event at inverter of LCC-HVDC systems caused by AC side faults which can lead to inverter blocking,interruption of active power transfer,and even system *** eliminate CFs and improve system performance,new Flexible LCC-HVDC topologies have been proposed in previous research but with limited analysis on its economic ***,to further validate the applicability of Flexible LCC-HVDC topologies,this paper utilizes Life-Cycle Cost Analysis model to analyze the life-cycle cost of inverter stations for conventional LCCHVDC,Capacitor Commutated Converter based HVDC(CCCHVDC)topology and Flexible LCC-HVDC topologies including Controllable Capacitor based Flexible LCC-HVDC,AC Filterless Controllable Capacitor based Flexible LCC-HVDC and improved Flexible *** a case study based on a 500 kV,1000 MW LCC-HVDC scheme,comparison results show that the AC Filterless Controllable Capacitor based Flexible LCCHVDC topology and the improved Flexible LCC-HVDC topology have lower cost than the conventional LCC-HVDC and CCCHVDC topologies,which proves that the elimination of CFs can be achieved with reduced cost.

A novel application of fluidization-Integrating three processes in reclaiming foundry sand

Immersion of automotive parts in a fluidized bed of foundry sand is used to both strip the castings free from moulding sand and to heat-treat the castings at 500℃. The fluid bed is heated by hot gases from a burner directed first into a serpentine heat exchanger located near one side-wall of the rectangular tank, and then into a distributor consisting of horizontal sparger pipes having maintenance standpipes fixed into their upper surfaces.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)and frontotemporal dementia(FTD)are both devastating neurodegenerative *** affecting different regions of the nervous system(FTD affecting primarily the frontal and temporal lobes,whilst ALS presents with motor neuron loss),there is significant overlap between these conditions in terms of genetics,pathology,and disease mechanisms,and they are therefore often grouped as a spectrum of symptoms under the heading FTD/ALS(Abramzon et al.,2020).Significantly,there is currently no cure for ALS or ***,recent mechanistic insight points to a novel pathway to target for potential therapeutic intervention.

Simulation of the Impact of Breakwaters on Hydrodynamic Environment in Laizhou Bay, China

The construction of two sand breakwaters in Guangli Port might cause changes to the marine environment of Laizhou *** flow field and conservative substance transport are simulated by a two-dimensional hydrodynamic model MIKE21 to assess the impact of breakwaters on the hydrodynamic *** results show that the construction has minor influences on the tidal *** changes mainly occur in the region near the port(about 20 km^(2) in area).The directions of currents during flood tide and ebb tide veer less than 20 degrees,and a maximum change in speed of(0.87±0.1)m s^(−1) occurs in between the breakwaters during ebb ***,the self-purification ability of Laizhou Bay is significantly reduced according to the conservative substance transport model,especially in the southwest(about 100 km from the Guangli Port to the estuary of Xiaoqinghe River),where the water exchange rate decreases by 10%–20%.The breakwaters slow down the northward current during ebb tide,which causes the accumulation of pollutants.

With the development of computers,artificial intelligence,and cognitive science,engagement in deep communication between humans and computers has become increasingly ***,affective computing is a current hot research ***,this study constructs a Physiological signal-based,Mean-threshold,and Decision-level fusion algorithm(PMD)to identify human emotional ***,we select key features from electroencephalogram and peripheral physiological signals,and use the mean-value method to obtain the classification threshold of each participant and distinguish individual ***,we employ Gaussian Naive Bayes(GNB),Linear Regression(LR),Support Vector Machine(SVM),and other classification methods to perform emotion ***,we improve the classification accuracy by developing an ensemble *** experimental results reveal that physiological signals are more suitable for emotion recognition than classical facial and speech *** proposed mean-threshold method can solve the problem of individual differences to a certain extent,and the ensemble learning model we developed significantly outperforms other classification models,such as GNB and LR.

A Review of Recent Trends in Quantum Thermodynamics and a System’s Behavioural Analysis of the Universe Originating as a Quantum Energy System

This paper combines a review of recent advances in quantum thermodynamics, including work on objective collapse (Zurek’s quantum Darwinism) and quantum gravity (Verlinde’s quantum gravity explanation), with a redefinition of entropy generation as systems’ change process. These concepts are used as systems’ behaviour analysis tools to allow us to revisit Hartle and Hawking’s 1983 quantum universe and develop a hypothesis for how physically a universe starting in a quantum state could evolve into our current universe, based on systems analysis. The outcome of this analysis raises a question: do we already have the elements of a “theory of everything” hiding in plain sight within recent advances in quantum thermodynamics?

Composite polymer dielectrics have strong electrical,mechanical,thermal and environmental properties but experience both high electric fields and harsh environmental conditions as outdoor *** present investigation of the stress-strain characteristics and morphology of the fracture cross-section reveal the risk of a weakly bonded interface between the aluminium hydroxide(ATH)filler and silicone rubber used for insulators in transmission lines and *** response measurements are proposed as a non-destructive probe of the interface *** analysis,based on the Dissado–Hill model,indicated that the introduction of ATH interfaces gave rise to a quasi-DC process,in which charge transport is in the form of hopping along the weakly bonded interfaces.A schematic plan is proposed that would allow such an analysis to be used to obtain quantitative information correlated to the status of the weakly bonded interface for the diagnosis of micro-interface quality in ATH-filled silicone rubber and dielectric composites in general.

BioTRIZ Suggests Radiative Cooling of Buildings Can Be Done Passively by Changing the Structure of Roof Insulation to Let Longwave Infrared Pass

This paper demonstrates the application of a design tool called BioTRIZ. Its developers claim that it can be used to access biological strategies for solving engineering problems. Our aim is to design a roof for hot climates that gets free cooling through radiant coupling with the sky. The insulation in a standard roof stops the sun and convection from warming the thermal mass. But it also restricts the mass＇s longwave view of the cool sky. Different solutions to this conflict are offered by BioTRIZ. The chosen solution is to replace the standard insulation component with an open cell honeycomb. The vertical cells would allow longwave radiation to pass, while arresting convection. The solutions offered by BioTRIZ＇s technological counterpart include no such changes in structure. It is estimated that the thermal mass in the biomimetic roof would remain on average 4.5℃ cooler than in a standard roof over a year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

From Slater to Mott physics by epitaxially engineering electronic correlations in oxide interfaces

Using spin-assisted ab initio random structure searches,we explore an exhaustive quantum phase diagram of archetypal interfaced Mott insulators,***-iron and lanthanum-titanium *** particular,we report that the charge transfer induced by the interfacial electronic reconstruction stabilises a high-spin ferrous Fe2+*** provide a pathway to control the strength of correlation in this electronic state by tuning the epitaxial strain,yielding a manifold of quantum electronic phases,***-Hubbard,charge transfer and Slater insulating ***,we report that the electronic correlations are closely related to the structural oxygen octahedral rotations,whose control is able to stabilise the low-spin state of Fe2+at low pressure previously observed only under the extreme high pressure conditions in the Earth’s lower ***,we provide avenues for magnetic switching via THz radiations which have crucial implications for next generation of spintronics technologies.
