Background: Ingrown toenail often results in a painful cycle of infection and inflammation and can affect the ability to go about everyday activities. In the uk and Europe, there are limited ways to prevent the development of ingrowing toenail without specialist intervention. Treatments are often invasive and may require periods of time off work. This prospective, single-site, non-comparative clinical study evaluates the performance, safety and convenience of a treatment kit that can be applied at home at the earliest signs of ingrowing toenail. Methods: Patients (n = 36) with mild ingrowing toenail used the Scholl Ingrowing Toenail Treatment kit for 6 weeks, with assessments by study investigators at Days 0, 21 and 42. The kit comprised a set of toenail clips and a spray, correct use of which was monitored at site visits and through patient diaries. Results: All patients enrolled in the study completed the 42-day treatment period. Severity of ingrowing toenail was significantly reduced in 88.9% (95% CI: 78.62, 99.15) of patients at the end of the study. Twenty-two patients (61.1%) exhibited full resolution of ingrowing toenail at Day 42 and none showed an increase in severity. Reduction in pain and severity of ingrowing toenail from baseline was significant at Days 21 and 42 (p Conclusions: The ingrowing toenail treatment kit was convenient and easy for patients to use at home and resulted in reduced pain and severity of ingrowing toenail at early stages of the condition.

For small and medium sized enterprises,portfolio management can be a difficult exercise;especially when the available paths forwards are shrouded in *** overcome this,they are required to research and decide upon the path to follow,but this can be difficult when the information to gather is unclear,leading to ad-hoc processes and *** motivation for this project originated from a small and medium sized enterprise experiencing this problem of unknown critical information and a technological portfolio with significant *** no procedure or method in place,they conducted the research in an ad-hoc way resulting in uncertainty and low repeatability of *** tackle this problem,innovation structuring frameworks were synthesised with appropriate risks and context to pose a new structure for information *** resulting structure was tested within the small and medium sized enterprise to investigate the repeatability of the information capture and the subsequent *** proposed structure was also analysed by-process experts for its wider *** the small and medium sized enterprise,this led to a consistent and repeatable method that delivered increased confidence about selecting a path forwards for its *** addition,it was found to be applicable to external organisations increasing the moders worth and *** implications of this work have led to a change in the operational procedure of the small and medium sized enterprise to utilise the defined process for researching new ideas for their portfolio which can lead to repeatable and trustworthy *** also has applicability to other similar companies and could lead them through a repeatable process as presented here.

Subgrade construction is frequently interrupted due to precipitation,soil shortage,and environmental ***,increasing the thickness layer is required to reduce construction costs and to allow highways to be placed into service *** paper presents a series of full-scale field experiments evaluating the compaction quality of gravel subgrade with large-thickness layers of 65 cm and 80 cm using heavy vibratory *** improved sand cone method was first proposed and calibrated to investigate the distribution of soil compaction degree across the full subgrade *** showed that dynamic soil stresses caused by the heavy vibratory rollers were 2.4–5.9 times larger than those of traditional rollers,especially at deeper depths,which were large enough to densify the soils to the full depth.A unified empirical formula was proposed to determine the vertical distribution of dynamic soil stresses caused by roller *** was demonstrated that soils were effectively compacted in a uniform fashion with respect to the full depth to 96.0%–97.2%and 94.1%–95.4%for the large-thickness layers of 65 cm and 80 cm within 6 or 7 passes,***,linear formulae were finally established between soil compaction degree and the subgrade reaction modulus,dynamic modulus of deformation,dynamic deflection,and relative difference of settlement to conveniently evaluate the compaction *** is demonstrated that increasing the thickness layer by means of heavy rollers can significantly reduce the cost and time burdens involved in construction while ensuring overall subgrade quality.

Hydrogen-enriched compressed natural gas(HCNG)has great potential for renewable energy and hydrogen ***,injecting hydrogen into the natural gas network will change original fluid dynamics and complicate compressed gas's physical properties,threatening operational safety of the electricity-HCNG-integrated energy system(E-HCNG-IES).To resolve such problem,this paper investigates effect of HCNG on gas network dynamics and presents an improved HCNG network model,which embodies the influence of blending hydrogen on the pressure drop equation and line pack *** addition,an optimal dispatch model for the E-HCNG-IES,considering the“production-storage-blending-transportation-utilization”link of the HCNG supply chain,is also *** dispatch model is converted into a mixed-integer second-order conic programming(MISOCP)problem using the second-order cone(SOC)relaxation and piecewise linearization *** iterative algorithm is proposed based on the convex-concave procedure and bound-tightening method to obtain a tight ***,the proposed methodology is evaluated through two E-HCNGIES numerical testbeds with different hydrogen volume *** operation analysis reveals that E-HCNG-IES can benefit from economic and environmental improvement with increased hydrogen volume fraction,despite declining energy delivery capacityand line pack flexibility.

Ceramic Conversion Treatment of Titanium Aluminide for Improved Tribological Properties

Gamma-based titanium aluminides have great potential in the automotive industries (e.g. valves in a car engine), but tribological property could be one of the crucial factors in determining the life and performance of a titanium aluminide part. A surface modification technique, namely ceramic conversion (CC) treatment has been developed to improve the tribological properties of a y-based titanium aluminide (Ti-48AI-2Nb-2Cr-B), and the surface properties were fully characterised. The results indicate that ceramic conversion treatment can produce an oxide layer consisting of a top TiO2 surface followed by a mixture of TiO2 and A12O3. Such hardened layer has significantly improved the load-bearing capacity and wear resistance of the intermetallics, as evidenced by an increase of scuffing load up to 4 times and a wear rate reduction of two orders of magnitude. The coefficient of friction has also been reduced from 0.5-0.7 for the untreated to an average of 0.22 for the CC-treated alloy under dry sliding contact conditions.

Vehicle Planar Motion Stability Study for Tyres Working in Extremely Nonlinear Region

Many researches on vehicle planar motion stability focus on two degrees of freedom（2DOF） vehicle model, and only the lateral velocity （or side slip angle） and yaw rate are considered as the state variables. The stability analysis methods, such as phase plane analysis, equilibriums analysis and bifurcation analysis, are all used to draw many classical conclusions. It is concluded from these researches that unbounded growth of the vehicle motion during unstable operation is untrue in reality thus one limitation of the 2DOF model. The fundamental assumption of the 2DOF model is that the longitudinal velocity is treated as a constant, but this is intrinsically incorrect. When tyres work in extremely nonlinear region, the coupling between the vehicle longitudinal and lateral motion becomes significant. For the purpose of solving the above problem, the effect of vehicle longitudinal velocity on the stability of the vehicle planar motion when tyres work in extremely nonlinear region is investigated. To this end, a 3DOF model which introducing the vehicular longitudinal dynamics is proposed and the 3D phase space portrait method is employed for visualization of vehicle dynamics. Through the comparisons of the 2DOF and 3DOF models, it is discovered that the vehicle longitudinal velocity greatly affects the vehicle planar motion, and the vehicle dynamics represented in phase space portrait are fundamentally different from that of the 2DOF model. The vehicle planar motion with different front wheel steering angles is further represented by the corresponding vehicle route, yaw rate and yaw angle. These research results enhance the understanding of the stability of the vehicle system particularly during nonlinear region, and provide the insight into analyzing the attractive region and designing the vehicle stability controller, which will be the topics of future works.
