Toluene degradation by a water/silicone oil mixture for the design of two phase partitioning bioreactors

Toluene degradation performances were studied in a 10 L Two-Phase Partitioning Bioreactor(TPPB).The liquid phase consisted of a mixture of water and PDMS 50(Poly Di Methyl Siloxane,*** oil,viscosity of 46 m Pa·s) in the volume ratio of 75%/25%.Two series of experiments were carried out:in the first,the reactor was sequentially supplied with toluene whereas in the second,toluene was continuously *** sludge from the wastewater treatment plant of Beaurade(Rennes,France) was used at an initial concentration of 0.5 dry mass g·(mixture L)^(-1).The elimination capacity(EC) was investigated as well as the change in biomass concentration over *** biodegradation was very ef ficient(removal ef ficiency,RE=100%) for toluene flows ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 ml·h^(-1),corresponding to elimination capacities of up to 104 g·m^(-3)·h^(-1).For a toluene flow of 1.2 ml·h^(-1),the biomass concentration measured at the end of the experiment was 4.7 dry mass g·(mixture L)^(-1).The oxygen concentration in the liquid phase was clearly not a limiting factor in these operating *** on these results,an extrapolation leading to the design of a large-scale pilot TPPB can now be considered to study toluene degradation performances in industrial conditions.

7-epi-Taxane has been achieved efficiently in gram scale from natural taxane via inversion of the 7-hydroxyl group simply using Ag20 as catalyst and DMF as solvent. The catalyst could he quantitatively recovered by filtra- tion without loss of catalytic activity. This condition is also applicable to the direct epimerization of taxane derivatives （e.g., docetaxel and paclitaxel） to 7-epi-taxane derivatives （e.g., 7-epi-docetaxel and 7-epi-paclitaxel）. Furthermore, 33 ester derivatives of 7-epi-taxane with different amino acid moieties at the position of C-13 were successfully synthesized via esterification without protecting C-7-OH. Bioassay results revealed that compounds 13 and 18 have good selectivity against prostatic cancer cell line DU145, with ICs0 value as low as 15.9 nmol/L for 18.

Unconjugated bilirubin alleviates experimental ulcerative colitis by regulating intestinal barrier function and immune inflammation

BACKGROUND Unconjugated bilirubin(ucb) is generally considered toxic but has gained recent prominence for its anti-inflammatory properties. However, the effects of it on the interaction between intestinal flora and organisms and how it influences immune responses remain *** To investigate the role of ucb in intestinal barrier function and immune inflammation in mice with dextran-sulfate-sodium-induced *** Acute colitis was induced by 3%(w/v) dextran sulfate sodium salt in drinking water for 6 d followed by untreated water for 2 d. Concurrently, mice with colitis were administered 0.2 mL ucb(400 μmol/L) by intra-gastric gavage for 7 *** activity index(DAI) was monitored daily. Mice were sacrificed at the end of the experiment.
