Lessons from the past:isotopes of an endangered rail as indicators of underlying change to tidal marsh habitats

Introduction:Tidal marsh systems along the Pacific coast of the united states have experienced substantial stress and loss of area and ecosystem function,which we examined by using the endangered California Ridgway’s Rail,Rallus obsoletus obsoletus(‘rail’)as an indicator of its tidal marsh habitat in the san Francisco *** organized a collection of historical(1885-1940)and modern(2005-2014)rail feathers and analyzed the feather isotope means for delta carbon(δ^(13)C),sulfur(δ^(34)s),and nitrogen(δ^(15)N)by region and time ***:Feather isotopes represented the primary foraging habitat during historical then modern time *** individual nor regional rail feather isotopes suggested freshwater or terrestrial foraging by the *** regions with both historic and modern feather isotopes revealed non-uniform spatial shifts in isotope levels consistent with a marine based food web and significantδ^(15)N ***:Our results supported the rail’s status as a generalist forager and obligate tidal marsh species throughout the historic *** variable isoscape trends generated from feather isotope means illustrated a modern loss of the isotopic homogeneity between regions of historical tidal marsh,which correlated with spatially-explicit habitat alterations such as increasing biological invasions and sewage effluent over ***:These findings have reinforced the importance of tidal marsh conservation in the face of ongoing underlying changes to these important ecosystems.

screening of bioflocculant-producing microorganisms was carded out. A strain that secreted excellent bioflocculant was isolated from municipal sewage using the spread plate technique, identified as Klebsiella sp. by the analytical profile index （API） identification system, and named A9. several important factors that had an effect on A9＇s bioflocculant-producing and flocculating activity were studied. A total of 4 g/L Kaolin suspension was used to measure the flocculating activity of the bioflocculant from A9. It was found that maltose and urea were Ag＇s best carbon and nitrogen sources, respectively, and the flocculating activity of the flocculating agent from A9 was markedly increased by the addition of trivalent cations such as Fe^3＋ and Al^3＋; furthermore, the bioflocculant produced by A9 was most effective when the pH value was 6.0.

shown is a possibility to make the image of a laser beam over a distance of 2.5 m, formed by the spherical multi-segment mirror installed in LHD, twice sharper by suitably adjusting the inclination of each segment mirror, which is equivalent to making the mirror surface aspherical. This will further enhance the attractiveness of a mirror-based Thomson scattering system.

The advancement in the process leads to more concern about the single Event(sE) sensitivity of the Differential Cascade Voltage switch Logic(DCVsL) circuits. The simulation results indicate that the single Event Transient(sET) generated at the DCVsL gate is much larger than that at the ordinary CMOs gate, and their sET variation is different. Based on charge collection, in this paper, the effective collection time theory is proposed to set forth the sET pulse generated at the DCVsL gate. Through 3D TCAD mixed-mode simulation in 65 nm twin-well bulk CMOs process, the effects on sET variation of device parameters such as well contact size and environment parameters such as voltage are investigated.

Background:In this paper,we present evidence that biologging is strongly correlated with eye irritation,with sometimes severely impairing effects.A migratory population of the Northern Bald Ibis(Geronticus eremita,NBI)is reintroduced in Europe,in course of a LIFE+*** 2014,all individuals have been equipped with *** monitoring allows the implementation of focussed measures against major mortality ***:Initially all birds carried battery-powered devices,fixed on the lower back of the *** 2016 an increasing amount of birds has been equipped with solar-powered devices,fixed on the upper back,the more sunexposed *** 2016,we observed opacity in the cornea of one eye(unilateral corneal opacity;uCO)during a regular health monitoring for the first ***:By 2018,a total of 25 birds were affected by uCO,with varying intensity up to *** examination of the birds revealed no clear cause for the ***,only birds carrying a device on the upper back were affected(2017 up to 70%of this group).In contrast,none of the birds carrying devices on the lower back ever showed uCO *** unexpected relationship between tagging and uCO was discovered in *** we took countermeasures by removing the device or repositioning it on the lower back,we observed an immediate reduction of the incidence rate without any new cases reported since January *** roost with their head on the back,one eye closely placed to the device if it was positioned on the upper ***,we conclude that the most parsimonious explanation for the symptomatology is either a repetitive slight temperature rise in the corneal tissue due to electromagnetic radiation by the GsM module of the device or a repetitive slight mechanical irritation of the corneal *** evidence is missing so ***,cases of uCO were found in another NBI ***:Our observations indicate that further research in the fast-

The avifauna in Tajikistan has been widely studied for the last century,but specific work on species richness pattern along elevation gradients in Tajikistan is rarely ***,we reported the first study of bird species richness(BsR)in the high-altitude mountain systems(Tien shan and Pamir-Alay)of Tajikistan which are very sensitive to the recent climate *** aim to explore the relationship of BsR pattern with elevation gradient and to determine the potential drivers underlying the *** collected occurrence data from field surveys,published articles,and open access websites to compile a list of bird species along elevational gradients across the whole *** BsR was counted by 100 m elevational bands ranging from 294 m to 5146 *** patterns of BsR were calculated separately for five groups:all breeding birds,Passeriformes,Non-Passeriformes,large elevational range species,and small elevational range *** calculated ecological and climatic factors of planimetric area,mid-domain effect(MDE),habitat heterogeneity(HH),mean annual temperature(MAT),temperature annual range(TAR),annual precipitation(AP),normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI),human influence index(HII),and human disturbance(HD)in each elevational band.A combination of polynomial regression,Pearson’s correlation,and general least squares model analyses were used to test the effects of these factors on the BsR.A unimodal distribution pattern with a peak at 750-1950 m was observed for all breeding *** similar pattern was explored for Passeriformes and Non-Passeriformes,while species with different elevational range sizes had different shapes and peak *** all the breeding birds and Passeriformes,BsR was significantly related to spatial,climate and human influence factors,while BsR of Non-Passeriformes positively correlated with all the given ***,second and fourth range classes of birds were significantly correlated with human influence factors.M

The blackspotted croaker(Protonibea diacanthus)is an endangered coastal marine *** is also a valuable species that is cultured on the southeast coast of *** some genetic studies have been conducted to protect this species,genomic resources are ***,we report a chromosome-scale assembly of *** genome by high-depth genome sequencing,assembly,and *** genome scale was 635.69 Mb with contig and scaffold N50 length of 3.33 Mb and 25.60 Mb,***-C scaffolding of the genome resulted in 24 chromosomes of 94.15%total *** predicted 23,971 protein-coding *** addition,we constructed a phylogenetic tree using 2755 single-copy gene families and identified 462 unique gene families in *** genome compared to three other ***’s more,from the analysis of gene families,we found that several gene families related to innate immunity were significantly expanded in the blackspotted croaker genome compared to other teleost *** high-quality genome can improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms behind economically valuable traits and provide insights into characteristics of the immune system.
