Background:Bird nests are an important part of avian *** are a powerful tool for studying not only the birds that built them,but a wide array of topics ranging from parasitology,urbanisation and climate change to *** this,bird nests tend to be underrepresented in natural history collections,a problem that should be redressed through renewed focus by collecting ***:Here we outline the history and current best practice collection and curatorial methods for the nest col-lection of the Australian national Wildlife collection(ANWC).We also describe an experiment conducted on nests in the ANWC using ultrasonic humidification to restore the shape of nests damaged by inappropriate ***:The experiment showed that damaged nests can be successfully reshaped to close to their original ***,restored nests were significantly closer to their original shape than they were prior to ***,even nests damaged by years of neglect may be fully incorporated into active research *** practice techniques include extensive note taking and photography in the field,subsampling of nests that cannot or should not be collected,appropriate field storage,metadata management,and prompt treatment upon arrival at the collec-tion ***:Renewed focus on nest collections should include appropriate care and restoration of current col-lections,as well as expansion to redress past *** could include collaboration with researchers studying or monitoring avian nesting ecology,and nest collection after use in bird species that rebuild anew each nesting *** expansion of museum nest collections will allow researchers and natural history collections to fully realise the scientific potential of these complex and beautiful specimens.

The Enterobacteriaceae are a class of gram-negative facultative anaerobic rods, which can cause a variety of diseases, such as bacteremia, septic arthritis, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections and ophthalmic infections, in humans, poultry, animals and fish. Disease caused by Enterobacteriaceae cause the deaths of millions of people every year, resulting in enormous economic loss. Drug treatment is a useful and efficient way to control Enterobacteriaceae infections. However, with the abuse of antibiotics, drug resistance has been found in growing number of Enterobacteriaceae infections and, as such, there is an urgent need to find new methods of control. Bacteriophage therapy is an efficient alternative to antibiotics as it employs a different antibacterial mechanism. This paper summarizes the history of bacteriophage therapy, its bacteriallytic mechanisms, and the studies that have focused on Enterobacteriaceae and bacteriophage therapy.

The complex wiring,bulky data collection devices,and difficulty in fast and on-site data interpretation significantly limit the practical application of flexible strain sensors as wearable *** tackle these challenges,this work develops an artificial intelligenceassisted,wireless,flexible,and wearable mechanoluminescent strain sensor system(AIFWMLs)by integration of deep learning neural network-based color data processing system(CDPs)with a sandwich-structured flexible mechanoluminescent sensor(sFLC)*** sFLC film shows remarkable and robust mechanoluminescent performance with a simple structure for easy *** CDPs system can rapidly and accurately extract and interpret the color of the sFLC film to strain values with auto-correction of errors caused by the varying color temperature,which significantly improves the accuracy of the predicted strain.A smart glove mechanoluminescent sensor system demonstrates the great potential of the AIFWMLs system in human gesture ***,the versatile sFLC film can also serve as a encryption *** integration of deep learning neural network-based artificial intelligence and sFLC film provides a promising strategy to break the“color to strain value”bottleneck that hinders the practical application of flexible colorimetric strain sensors,which could promote the development of wearable and flexible strain sensors from laboratory research to consumer markets.

As part of an ongoing inventory of the helminth parasites of freshwater fishes in Mexico, 570 individual fish were collected between Apr 2008 and Oct 2011 in 26 localities along the Cuatro Ciénegas region in Coahuila state, northern Mexico. seventeen species of hosts, mostly corresponding to Nearctic freshwater elements, were studied. A total of 8324 individual worms were collected during this survey, representing 25 species of helminths, of which 9 were digeneans, 3 monogeneans, 3 acanthocephalans, 9 nematodes and 1 cestode. Most of the records in this checklist represent new host or locality records. The information provided in this checklist may be helpful for our understanding of the biodiversity and historical biogeography of this host-parasite system, because in the Cuatro Ciénegas region occur a Nearctic freshwater fish fauna, along with Neotropical and endemic elements, and from a biogeographical point of view, this may represent a transitional area.

Gene bank scheduling of seed regeneration: Interim report on a long term storage study

A major challenge for the management of gene banks is the maintenance of good seed health in the *** germplasm collections >10 000 accessions often have been acquired from different sources over a range of dates,may differ in germination at time of deposition in the gene bank,and may have genetic differences in seed *** major storage variables affecting seed longevity are temperature and seed moisture *** varieties of each pea(Pisum sativus L.),lentil(Lens culinaris Medikus ***),and chickpea(Cicer arietinum L.),were stored at three temperatures;40,20,and 2°C,each with three seed moisture levels of 10.9–13.8%(high),7.9–10.3%(medium),and 7–7.8%(low),in the Australian Temperate Field Crops collection gene *** longevity at a given storage period was estimated by the corresponding germination percentage for each *** paper is an interim report on seed viability decline in the first seven years of this seed longevity study,in which viability decline towards zero was almost completed in the three seed moisture treatments at 40°C and the 20°C high seed moisture treatment,but had not declined in the other *** longevity positively responded to a reduction in temperature and then to a reduction in seed *** number of days in storage for seed germination decline to 85%(p85),and to 50%(p50) for mean seed viability,are reported by storage/varietal *** p85 and p50 showed significant inverse linear responses with seed moisture at 40°C for pea and lentil varieties,with intra-specific variation for *** long term trial aims to provide informed timing of seed regeneration for accessions in a gene bank.

In our trials, from 2007 to 2008, of mass production of seedlings of Hizikiafusiformis using synchronization techniques, problems of a ＂dark thalli＂ phenomenon and epiphytes contamination severely threatened the health of juvenile seedlings. In this investigation, we optimized conditions for improving the growth of juvenile seedlings. seven string collectors were seeded with zygotes and a series of experiments were conducted including direct exposure to solar irradiance, co-culture with ulva spp. and treatment with sodium hypochlorite. It was found that direct exposure to solar irradiance （maximum： 1 740 μmol photons/（m2.s）） for 2 h per day could efficiently enhance the growth of young seedlings and simultaneously inhibit the growth of epiphytic algae. In this treatment, 50-day old seedlings could reach an average of 0.44 cm in length and possess up to nine leaflets. However, a single treatment with 18-mmol/L sodium hypochlorite for 10 rain severely harmed 15-day old seedlings. In comparison, weekly treatment with 2.2-mmol/L sodium hypochlorite for 10 rain brought no apparent harm to seedlings and eliminated epiphytic algae efficiently. However, this treatment significantly increased the detachment rate of seedlings, Inoculating ulva spp. onto the collector caused a dramatic decrease in the number of seedlings. However, the growth of the remaining seedlings appeared unhampered. All collectors except the control were daily sprayed with a high pressure water jet from the 84 day post fertilization. From the first day to 50th day, no ＂dark thallus＂ was observed on any of the seven collectors. We believe that well-timed daily exposure to solar irradiance would favor H. fusiformis in its early growing stages.

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever(CCHF),caused by Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus(CCHFV),is endemic in Africa,Asia,and Europe,but CCHF epidemiology and epizootiology is only rudimentarily defined for most *** we summarize what is known about CCHF in Central,Eastern,and south-eastern *** multiple international and country-specific databases using a One Health approach,we defined disease risk and burden through identification of CCHF cases,anti-CCHFV antibody prevalence,and CCHFV isolation from vector *** identified 2313 CCHF cases that occurred in 1944–2021 in the three examined *** Asian countries reported the majority of cases(2,026).In Eastern Asia,China was the only country that reported CCHF cases(287).In south-eastern Asia,no cases were ***,we leveraged our previously established classification scheme to assign countries to five CCHF evidence *** countries(China,Kazakhstan,Kyrgyzstan,Tajikistan,Turkmenistan,and uzbekistan)were assigned to level 1 or level 2 based on CCHF case reports and the maturity of the countries’surveillance *** countries(Mongolia and Myanmar)were assigned to level 3 due to evidence of CCHFV circulation in the absence of reported CCHF *** countries in Eastern and south-eastern Asia were categorized in levels 4 and 5 based on prevalence of CCHFV vector ***,this paper describes the past and present status of CCHF reporting to inform international and local public-health agencies to strengthen or establish CCHFV surveillance systems and address shortcomings.
