Genetic transformation is a useful technique to complement conventional breeding in crop improvement. Although carrot has been a model organism for in vitro embryogenesis study, genetic transformation of carrot is still lengthy and labor intensive. An efficient transformation and detection system is desirable. Direct infection of Agrobacterium to carrot calli has provided an easy way for carrot genetic transformation. To improve the efficiency of antibiotic selection in this method, we report the combined use of an improved green-fluorescent protein, referred to as smGFP, to establish a versatile selection method for carrot callus transformation system. By combining antibiotic selection with the bright fluorescence observed in the callus tissue, we were able to easily identify stable transformants in early stage of the transformation process. In addition to the GFP expression of the callus cells, the transgenic nature of callus cells was confirmed with southern and Western analysis. We found we can link the simplicity of carrot-callus-cell transformation, early detection of stable transformants with antibiotic selection, visualization of GFP fluorescence, and molecular analysis （southern and Western） of callus tissue （non-photosynthetic tissue） to provide a more efficient way in identifying stable transformants at early stage of carrot transformation.

This paper presents a spectral approach to compress dynamic animation consisting of a sequence of homeomorphic manifold meshes. Our new approach directly compresses the field of deformation gradient defined on the surface mesh, by decomposing it into rigid-body motion （rotation） and non-rigid-body deformation （stretching） through polar decomposition. It is known that the rotation group has the algebraic topology of 3D ring, which is different from other operations like stretching. Thus we compress these two groups separately, by using Manifold Harmonics Transform to drop out their high-frequency details. Our experimental result shows that the proposed method achieves a good balance between tile reconstruction quality and the compression ratio. We compare our results quantitatively with other existing approaches on animation compression, using standard measurement criteria.

Animals communicate with potential mates using species-specific signals,and pheromones are powerful sexual signals that modify conspecific behavior to facilitate mate *** the vertebrates,snakes are especially adept in mate searching via chemical trailing,which is particularly relevant given that many snake species are invasive outside their native *** signals used in mate choice are,thus,potentially valuable tools for management of invasive snake *** Burmese python(Python bivittatus)is an invasive snake in the Florida Everglades where it is negatively impacting native *** this study,we sought to:(i)determine if males can follow conspecific chemical trails in a Y-maze;and(ii)describe the mate searching behaviors exhibited by males while *** males consistently followed a single female scent trail in the maze,but when only a male scent trail was present they did not discriminate between the male and blank *** of tongue-flicking,a proxy for chemosensory sampling,was also marginally higher when males were following female versus male scent ***,when both female and male scent trails were simultaneously present in the Y-maze,males did not show a preference for the female arm,although the tongue-flick rate was higher in the female-only trial compared to female versus *** of multiple male behaviors individually and using an ethogram revealed that behaviors were more frequent and complex in the female-only trials compared to male-only *** behavioral trials are needed to determine if an effective pheromonal approach to Burmese python management is possible.

The AVs Workgroup has developed an IPR Policy to facilitate the adoption of standards in the marketplace The policy is based on consideration of IPR issues in parallel with the technical work for drafting the standard. The paper describes the relationship between IPR and the standard, and how the goals for the standard must be complemented by goals for the IPR. The existing IPR policies of the ITu and IsO are outlined, and then the AVs IPR policy is described, organized by its three main components： commitment to license on declared basic terms, disclosure of intellectual property, and protection of IPR.

Probabilistic Adaptive Anonymous Authentication in Vehicular Networks

Vehicular networks have attracted extensive attention in recent years for their promises in improving safety and enabling other value-added services. Most previous work focuses on designing the media access and physical layer protocols. Privacy issues in vehicular systems have not been well addressed. We argue that privacy is a user-specific concept, and a good privacy protection mechanism should allow users to select the levels of privacy they wish to have. To address this requirement, we propose an adaptive anonymous authentication mechanism that can trade off the anonymity level with computational and communication overheads （resource usage）. This mechanism, to our knowledge, is the first effort on adaptive anonymous authentication. The resources used by our protocol are few. A high traffic volume of 2000 vehicles per hour consumes about 60kbps bandwidth, which is less than one percent of the bandwidth of DsRC （Dedicated short Range Communications）. By using adaptive anonymity, the protocol response time can further be improved 2-4 times with less than 20% bandwidth overheads.
