There are thousands of abandoned mine land(AML)sites in the *** need to be restored to reduce wind and water erosion,provide wildlife forage,shade streams,and improve *** created from woody biomass that would normally be burned in slash piles can be applied to soil to improve soil properties and is one method to restore AML soil productive *** this‘waste’biomass for biochar and reclamation activities will reduce wildfire risk,air pollution from burning,and particulates released from burning *** has the potential to improve water quality,bind heavy metals,or decrease toxic chemical concentrations,while improving soil health to establish sustainable plant cover,thereby preventing soil erosion,leaching,or other unintended,negative environmental *** forest residues to create biochar also helps reduce woody biomass and improves forest health and *** address concerns surrounding organic and inorganic contaminants on the biochar and how this might affect its’efficacy and provide valuable information to increase restoration activities on AMLs using biochar alone or in combination with other organic *** examples of AML biochar restoration sites initiated to evaluate short-and long-term above-and belowground ecosystem responses are presented.

Three-dimensional flow velocities were measured using an acoustic Doppler velocimeter at a closely spaced grid over a fixed scoured bed with a submerged spur ***-dimensional flow velocities were measured at 3,484 positions around the trapezoidal shaped submerged model spur *** velocity distributions and detailed near field flow structures were revealed by the *** differences were revealed between flow over fixed flat and scoured *** lateral flows were the dominant cause of the observed local *** stresses were higher for the scoured bed than in the flat bed *** rates of scour as the scour hole developed were attributed to increases in critical shear stress in the scour holes caused by the increase in the length and magnitude of adverse slopes associated with the two main scour holes.

For many years, coal-fired power plant generation comprised the largest share of electricity in the *** sector. While natural gas plants now constitute a greater portion of the total, coal is projected to remain a shrinking but significant component of u.s. electricity production. Natural gas-fired technologies are dispatchable and versatile generation sources, but the recent and anticipated growth of wind and solar technologies will add nondispatchable, intermittent power generation sources to *** grids. Numerous emissions-related benefits arise from the deployment of these technologies, but they must coexist with coal plants, many of which run most efficiently under baseload operating procedures. Historical monthly emissions data has been analyzed on a sample of coal plants to show how modified coal operations have affected plant emission rates, as measured by carbon dioxide emitted per unit of electricity output. statistically significant correlations between plant capacity factors and emission rate intensity have been observed by the majority of the sample, showing a worsening under more sporadic operations. since nearly all of the coal plants in the sample are generating less electricity, determining the emission impact of operational decisions will assist policymakers as they seek to minimize total system emissions without severe disruptions to electricity cost and service reliability.

Background: Recent increases in intra-litter variability in weaning weight have raised swine production costs. A contributor to this variability is the normal birth weight pig that grows at a slower rate than littermates of similar birth weight. The goal of this study was to interrogate biochemical profiles manifested in skeletal muscle originating from slow growing(sG) and faster growing littermates(control), with the aim of identifying differences in metabolic pathway utilization between skeletal muscle of the sG pig relative to its littermates. samples of longissimus muscle from littermate pairs of pigs were collected at 21 d of age for metabolomic ***: Birth weights did not differ between littermate pairs of sG and Control pigs(P > 0.05). High-resolution non-emissive displays based on electrochromic tungsten oxides(WOx)are crucial for future near-eye virtual/augmented reality interactions,given their impressive attributes such as high environmental stability,ideal outdoor readability,and low energy ***,the limited intrinsic structure of inorganic materials has presented a significant challenge in achieving precise patterning/pixelation at the micron ***,we successfully developed the direct photolithography for WOx nanoparticles based on in situ photo-induced ligand *** strategy enabled us to achieve ultra-high resolution efficiently(line widthst resolution for reported inorganic electrochromic materials).Additionally,the resulting device exhibited impressive electrochromic performance,such as fast response(s at 0 V),high coloration efficiency(119.5 cm^(2) C^(−1)),good optical modulation(55.9%),and durability(>3600 cycles),as well as promising applications in electronic logos,pixelated displays,flexible electronics,*** success and advancements presented here are expected to inspire and accelerate research and development(R&D)in high-resolution non-emissive displays and other ultra-fine micro-electronics.
