Educational Assistance Through Modeling in tsukuba university of Technology-Professional Education for the Hearing or Visually Impaired

The National university Corporation tsukuba university of Technology（NTUT） is the only institute of higher education for the hearing and the visually impaired in Japan. In our university, hearing or visually impaired students are studying to be technicians after they graduate, toward social independence. From previous experience of higher education for students with disabilities, effects are increased when modeling is used by the teachers involved in professional education. In the Mechanical Engineering Course, we are using modeling, to match the drawing and shape for beginning students. It includes support for enhancing one＇s view, and how to draw out the ability of mechanical engineering students for the basics. For students to study Mechanical Design and Drawing, Modeling of Gear Pump, Jack and Globe Valve are easily shown through drawings and the operation of each mechanism through sample drawings in the textbook. It is possible to make an opportunity to think about the machine mechanism. It will be shown by students＇ works. The assembling of the model triggers the need for form accuracy by making a function, and improves the quality of learning. It is possible that a three-dimensional molding machine can be produced through experiential learning by the model, and modeling with the dimension numerical data. Moreover, it is also embodied in a three-dimensional modeling which results in the image processing programming created. Confirming the improvement of the program through the shape with the quality. In the Department of Synthetic Design, students have chances to realize and self-evaluate from the design of the lamp shade with a complicated shape. In the Faculty of Health Science from Department of Health, high quality teaching of visually-impaired students through the use of bone model teaching materials has become possible in the medical-related courses.

CNN-based segmentation frameworks for structural component and earthquake damage determinations using UAV images

Buildings undergo various kinds of structural damage during earthquakes,and damage detection and functional assessment of these structures in the aftermath of the events have been challenging *** these circumstances,computer vision techniques offer a promising solution by automating the inspection *** study presents an effective methodology for automatic structural components and damage detection using unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)images of damaged *** types of neural network architectures are considered for appropriate feature extractions in different task *** feature pyramid network(FPN)is employed for crack,spall,rebar,and component damage segmentation,while the UNet++network is utilized for the damage *** network training and validation,a total of 3805 original images of size 1920×1080 pixels are processed by the proposed method and reduced the image *** the FPN,the achieved highest intersection over unions(IoUs)were 0.59,0.93,0.42,and 0.99 for crack,spall,rebar,and components,*** predicted labels were found in close agreement with the ***,the UNet++recognized the semantic information and damage state with an IoU of *** demonstrated the applicability of the proposed method for automated post-earthquake building inspection process accurately without information loss from the original images.

Mutations in Hevin/Sparcl1 and risk of autism spectrum disorder

Hevin/Sparcl1(hereafter referred to as Hevin)is an extracellular matrix protein encoded by the SPARCL1 ***,it has been revealed that Hevin has various functions,such as synapse formation,neuronal migration,inflammation,and angiogenesis(Gongidi et al.,2004;Naschberger et al.,2016;Singh et al.,2016;Liu et al.,2021).In addition,genome-wide association studies uncovered de novo and familial mutations of the SPARCL1 gene associated with a risk for autism spectrum disorder(ASD)(De Rubeis et al.,2014).However,the relationship between ASD-associated Hevin mutant and cellular phenotype has not been ***,we have reported that ASD-associated mutation in Hevin reduces secretion efficiency and induces endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress caused by structural instability(Taketomi et al.,2022).In this perspective,we discuss the relationship between the molecular functions of Hevin and ASD risk(Figure 1A).Also,we introduce our recent findings that link ASD-associated Hevin mutant to the cellular phenotype of ASD.

Distortion-free PCA on sample space for highly variable gene detection from single-cell RNA-seq data

Single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) allows the analysis of gene expression in each cell, which enables the detection of highly variable genes (HVG) that contribute to cell-to-cell variation within a homogeneous cell population. HVG detection is necessary for clustering analysis to improve the clustering result. scRNA-seq includes some genes that are expressed with a certain probability in all cells which make the cells indistinguishable. These genes are referred to as background noise. To remove the background noise and select the informative genes for clustering analysis, in this paper, we propose an effective HVG detection method based on principal component analysis (PCA). The proposed method utilizes PCA to evaluate the genes (features) on the sample space. The distortion-free principal components are selected to calculate the distance from the origin to gene as the weight of each gene. The genes that have the greatest distances to the origin are selected for clustering analysis. Experimental results on both synthetic and gene expression datasets show that the proposed method not only removes the background noise to select the informative genes for clustering analysis, but also outperforms the existing HVG detection methods.

Two-dimensional quantum transport of multivalley （111） surface state in topological crystalline insulator SnTe thin films

The magneto-transport properties of （111）-oriented single-crystal thin films of SnTe were investigated. SnTe （111） thin films were epitaxially grown on a BaF2 substrate by molecular beam epitaxy. By optimizing the growth conditions and the thickness of the films, the bulk carrier density could be reduced, making it possible to detect the surface transport. Magneto-conductance （MC） measurements show a cusp-like feature around zero magnetic field, which is attributed to the weak-antilocalization effect of the transport in the topological surface state. Detailed analysis of this negative MC reveals a reduced number of transport channels contributing to the surface transport, suggesting strong coupling between Dirac valleys on the SnTe （111） surface, as a characteristic feature of the transport in the multivalley structure of topological crystalline insulators.

Effect of Alloying Elements on Microstructure,Martensitic Transformation and Mechanical Properties of Ni-Mn Based Alloys

The microstructural features, shape memory behavior and mechanical properties of Ni-Mn based alloys were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry （DSC）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, transmission electron microscopy （TEM） and thermal cycling test under various stresses. The transformation temperatures shifted toward lower temperatures when adding a third element into the Ni-Mn system. The addition of 10 at. pct Fe increased considerably the mechanical properties exhibiting still high transformation temperatures. However, it was found that in NiMn40Fe10 alloy the martensitic transformation is not thermoelastic in nature. The mechanism of this transformation and the crystallography of Ni-Mn（50-x）-Fex （x=5, 7, 10, 20 at. pct） alloys are presented.

Estrogen and oxytocin involvement in social preference in male mice:a study using a novel long-term social preference paradigm with aromatase,estrogen receptor-αand estrogen receptor-β,oxytocin,and oxytocin receptor knockout male mice

Certain aspects of social behavior help animals make adaptive decisions during encounters with other *** mice choose to approach another conspecific,the motivation and preference behind the interaction is not well *** and oxytocin are known to influence a wide array of social behaviors,including social motivation and social *** present study investigated the effects of estrogen and oxytocin on social preference using aromatase(ArKO),estrogen receptor(ER)α(αERKO),ERβ(βERKO),oxytocin(OTKO),oxytocin receptor(OTRKO)knockout and their respective wild-type(WT)male *** were presented with gonadally-intact versus castrated male(IC),intact male versus ovariectomized female(IF),or intact male versus empty cage(IE)stimuli sets for 5 *** showed no preference for either stimuli in IC and IF and intact male preference in IE,but ArKO mice preferred a castrated male or an ovariectomized female,or had no preference for either stimulus in IC,IF and IE stimuli sets,respectively,suggesting reduced intact male preference.αandβWT mice preferred a castrated male,showed no preference,and preferred an intact male in IC,IF and IE,respectively.αERKO mice displayed similar modified social preference patterns as ArKO,whereas the social preference ofβERKO mice remained similar toβ*** preferred a castrated male whereas OTKO,OTRWT and OTRKO mice failed to show any preference in IC and none showed preference for either stimuli in ***,these findings suggest that estrogen regulates social preference in male mice and that impaired social preference in oxytocin-deficient mice may be due to severe deficits in social recognition.

ICRF Experiments and Potential Formation on the GAMMA 10 Tandem Mirror

Target plasmas, on which the formation of the electrostatic potentials and the improvement of the confinement are studied, are produced with ICRF in the GAMMA 10 tandem mirror. The ion temperature of more than 10 keV has been achieved in relatively low density plasmas. When the strong ICRF heating is applied, it is observed that the high frequency and the low frequency fluctuations are excited and suppress the increase of the plasma parameters. Recently, a new high power gyrotron system has been constructed and the ECRH power in plug extends up to 370 kW. The improvement of the confinement due to the formation of the potential in the axial direction and the strong radial electric field shear has been observed.

Transferring pose and augmenting background for deep humanimage parsing and its applications

Parsing of human images is a fundamental task for determining semantic parts such as the face,arms, and legs, as well as a hat or a dress. Recent deep-learning-based methods have achieved significant improvements, but collecting training datasets with pixel-wise annotations is labor-intensive. In this paper,we propose two solutions to cope with limited ***, to handle various poses, we incorporate a pose estimation network into an end-to-end humanimage parsing network, in order to transfer common features across the domains. The pose estimation network can be trained using rich datasets and can feed valuable features to the human-image parsing network. Secondly, to handle complicated backgrounds,we increase the variation in image backgrounds automatically by replacing the original backgrounds of human images with others obtained from large-scale scenery image datasets. Individually, each solution is versatile and beneficial to human-image parsing, while their combination yields further improvement. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach through comparisons and various applications such as garment recoloring, garment texture transfer, and visualization for fashion analysis.
